The Low-Down on the Far-Out

March 2006

Feb.27, 7:30 PM EST – NEW MOON IN PISCES ("What's a New Moon?")

The New Moon begins a cycle of development that lasts until the next New Moon (about 4 weeks later). This New Moon takes place in Pisces, the sign of creativity, spirituality, imagination and surrender. During this cycle, you might become inspired to take on a new creative project, or perhaps you want to explore your spiritual connection to the Universe (in whatever way that is meaningful to you). You could feel the urge to surrender into a state of bliss or merge with another person. As a result, you might also be more open to suggestion, deception or illusion. This can be a great resource for any creative activity, although critical decisions should be run through a reality-checker before committing to them.

The New Moon conjoins Uranus this month, introducing an energy of great awakening and spiritual initiation. This cycle could bring you into contact with an explosion of inspiring possibilities that seem to connect you to your greatest potential. On the other hand, you might also find that your comfortable, familiar life is disrupted by an unexpected turn of events that causes you to suddenly question what you previously took for granted. And indeed, the disruption could be necessary to clear the way for those new potentials to take hold.

The two planetary rulers of Pisces are in a stressful but dynamic relationship now. Jupiter (traditional ruler) squares Neptune (modern ruler), which puts the societal and the transpersonal elements of Pisces energy at odds with each other. This poses a question to be explored during this lunar cycle: Is it better to dig deep into your personal and interpersonal experiences to find the Truth of Life, or should you aim to detach from "this world" and merge instead with the Great Cosmic Totality?

On a more accessible level, this could manifest as a question about how you should approach a problem situation—by dealing directly with the immediate issues, or by focusing more on the broader implications. The ultimate answer is not likely to come quickly or simply. This lunar cycle may bring these issues into focus for further exploration and consideration.

Mercury is about to go retrograde in a few days, so we're already in the gravity of that rethink-rehash-reflect energy which will remain in the background throughout this lunar cycle. Mercury goes stationary in exact square to Pluto, so there is the need to delve deeply to expand your awareness of the undercurrents that are affecting events during this cycle.

You may also need to look more closely at how you use words, perceptions, ideas and self-expression to wield power—either empowerment that is centered within the Self or power that is used to apply control and force over those around you. This cycle may require that you take a closer look at how effective, ethical and consistent with your values you are being in these choices.

It's possible this might manifest in the form of someone else imposing their will on you or some situation restricting your freedom. In this case, the crucial and important element could be not whether you solve the problem itself, but the integrity, awareness and consistency with your spiritual values, with which you respond to the situation. Don't use this as a way to beat yourself up if you fall short of perfection, but as a learning opportunity to gain new insight into how you're put together at a deeper level.

The Wedge configuration that began on Feb.20 continues until Mar.07, and this lunar cycle is imprinted with its energy. Taking action and expressing your thoughts can help to ease some of the tension of the Saturn-Chiron opposition, which peaked in energy on Feb.20. Top of Page

Feb.28 – Mercury Direct square Pluto (in Pisces/Sagittarius)

You are faced now with a challenge to empower your communication and perceptions, although this may not come easily. It could involve having to face some rather difficult truths that might be a bit disturbing or hard to accept. However in doing so, you gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself, your situation and your role within it. Obsessive or persistent thoughts that are morbid or paranoid are possible, which could be helped by finding something more positive to focus on or a creative outlet. Communication (from others or yourself or both) could be intense, intimidating or even downright damaging, since it may be tempting to get caught up in power struggles and domination. But communication can also be used now to heal, by cutting through hypocrisy and insincerity in order to reach a deeper authenticity and truth—like lancing a boil so that healing can take place.

This is the first of three passes of this transit: Feb.28, Mar.04 and Apr.13. Therefore, this pass begins a long-term process in which the above issues will develop and evolve. Top of Page

Feb.28 – Mars sextile Saturn (in Gemini/Leo)

There is an opportunity to harness the energy of willpower using practical discipline. Your physical and mental energy are likely to be stable and enduring, or else they can become this way more easily than usual by applying a sustained focus of effort. This is a great transit if you need to be productive or to make progress in a goal that you are working toward. The thing to watch out for is a tendency to be over-cautious to the point where you get stuck in the planning stage and don't get much done. Or, you might try to rush into the production phase before your plans are fully formed. This transit works best when these areas are brought into balance. Top of Page

Feb.28 – Mercury sextile Venus (in Pisces/Capricorn)

There is a potential to benefit from social connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness during this transit, although a certain amount of effort is needed to make this happen. It can be a good time for negotiating contracts and other agreements, especially if you consciously focus your intent on achieving balance with your counterpart, partner or opponent that results in a win-win situation for all concerned. There is also potential to appreciate and express beauty, pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone in your life that you want to get closer to, try speaking gently and listening receptively, which can be the key that opens the door to harmonious interaction. Creative ideas can also find expression now if you apply your conscious awareness to bring them into focus. The thing to watch for is a tendency to use manipulation to achieve an advantage, which might be done by you or to you. Keep communication straightforward and clear, and find diplomatic ways to deal with manipulation if you sense it happening. Top of Page

Mar.01 – Sun conjunct Uranus (in Pisces)

Spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants" characterize this transit. You are more open than usual to new experiences and open-minded to new perspectives. Your sense of humour and fun are finely tuned and may spring up unexpectedly and irreverently. It is more possible to break free of old habits and getting out of a rut you have been in. In fact, you may find it is fun to try doing something completely out of character...so much so that it's wise to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. Have fun pushing the envelope, but try not to rip or shred that envelope. On the other hand, that might be the only way you can get out of a restrictive situation that's holding you back, and this transit could give you the impulsive courage to do just that. Your creativity may come in bursts and in unexpected ways, so try to take advantage of them when they present themselves or else write down your inspiration for future consideration. Top of Page

Mar.02 – Mercury stationary Retrograde (in Pisces; retrograde until Mar.25) ("What's a Station?"  Read article about Stations.  Read article about Mercury Retrograde.)

Mercury now goes retrograde for the next 3-3½ weeks. For up to a week before and after today, Mercury is moving very slowly or stopped during the station. During this time, you may experience intensity, frustration, confusion, miscommunications, or feel like you're getting bogging down in your progress. Mercury retrograde is usually a time when it is best to rethink, rehash, reflect, and tie up old loose ends, rather than begin new ventures. It is typical for new insights and information to emerge later in the retrograde cycle that you didn't anticipate, which can change the whole picture. Because of this, it is usually advised to avoid making final or permanent decisions (e.g., signing contracts or putting new projects into action), during the retrograde and even up to 2 weeks after Mercury goes direct. However, it is an excellent time to do fact-finding, research and investigation to prepare for major decisions, which are usually best put off until well after Mercury goes direct. In the meantime, while Mercury is retrograde, expect the unexpected, and leave lots of extra time when planning your schedule (to minimize any disruptions from delays and complications). Stay flexible; for example, it's common to have to reschedule appointments. Do some things that use your intuitive, creative, non-rational mind for a while until Mercury goes direct again.

With Mercury going retrograde in Pisces, you might find you are drifting in an intuitive, non-rational state of mind more than usual, even for Mercury retrograde. You may be especially prone to wishful thinking, daydreams and fantasy. This is a great time for things that draw on empathy, imagination and creativity, but probably not so good for things requiring logic, analysis or precision. Dreams (during sleep) may be especially active and vivid, and could provide important messages from your unconscious; write them down to get the most out of them. This can also be a time to explore deeper spiritual questions that have been on your mind, whether that concerns your religious beliefs or connecting with something greater than yourself or examining the things that give your life meaning. There is also a chance that you could be more susceptible to deception or illusion. This could come through trickery or just by becoming so entranced by the magic and promise of something that you lose your ability to think critically and objectively about it. While this can enhance creativity and imagination, it also means it's especially important to do a reality check and strict research before committing yourself to anything significant. Top of Page

Mar.03 – Mars trine Chiron (in Gemini/Aquarius)

The healing of assertive energy and willpower mark this transit. It is bound to be easier to get past any inhibition you might normally feel about being assertive, expressing frustration and anger, and putting things into action. Perhaps you are able to reconcile some internal guilt or fear that has held you back in the past. Or, maybe you are finally able to reach a state of acceptance or resolution that allows you to move beyond a conflict or struggle that has been keeping you stuck. Applying your willpower to problems has a better chance of succeeding now because you're likely to be more attuned to the path that leads to peace rather than more conflict. It's possible you might choose to use this energy in the defence of another person, a cause or something else you feel passionately about. It's possible to focus your energy, intent, motives and actions in ways that are healing, healthy, balanced and constructive. Top of Page

Mar.04 – Jupiter stationary Retrograde (in Scorpio; retrograde until Jul.06)

For up to a week before and after this date (while Jupiter is moving very slowly and stopped during the station), you may experience an increase in idealism, longing or inspiration. Your opinions, beliefs and assumptions may come under question, as your understanding of life and the world around you now requires further study. While Jupiter is retrograde over the next five months, you may have to re-examine your assumptions, attitudes, biases and judgments about one or more situations. It can be a time to gather more knowledge and look at things from a different perspective, which can change your interpretation of events. Right now at the station there is the turning point, which might inspire you to explore already-known territory in a new way, or it could disrupt your journey because your map of the territory isn't accurate or up-to-date. This especially applies to situations that have been developing in the last three months (since Jupiter entered the shadow). Allow yourself to be open to new possibilities emerging gradually out of old situations. There is a deeper understanding that can result from exploring things from a different perspective and questioning what you think you know. That which is known and familiar may seem strangely irrelevant or foreign for a while, yet will eventually become integrated and understood again after Jupiter goes direct in five months. Top of Page

Mar.04 – Mercury Retrograde square Pluto (in Pisces/Sagittarius)

This is the retrograde pass, which means the situations happening during the first pass (Feb.28) could repeat in some form. This might happen literally, where there is unfinished business that must be dealt with. Or the same themes might repeat in a different form, where the same dynamic emerges in another situation. Communication is likely to be the primary vehicle for this, possibly in terms of argument or intimidation. Your perception of the issues involved could also change dramatically now, so that you are seeing hidden elements that you missed the first time around. If this has brought a healing journey, this can be a time when you must dig deep into the toxic issues to clean out old attitudes, interactions or perceptions that need to be let go. It is important to keep looking inward to what is being triggered in yourself, so that you don't wind up getting stuck in "blame mode" or "paranoid mode." What you're seeing (in the situation, the other person or yourself) might be difficult to accept, but by keeping your eyes open you can see where it is possible to make changes. Top of Page

Mar.05 – Venus enters Aquarius (until Apr.05)

Relationships, material abundance and values take a step back to gain perspective, detachment and room to breathe in freedom. You may find that you want to use your finances and resources to benefit those who are disadvantaged or to support the greater good of society in some way. It can be a good time to experiment or try new things, to network with groups of people, and to take an objective view about intimacy and interaction. Relationships can take on an idealistic edge, seeking a state of equality and rebelling against imbalances that give one person advantage over the other. Having a strong element of friendship in your intimate relationships may become very important during this time, and friendships themselves could take a central place in your life. Detachment without disconnection is the ideal here. You may not be in a position to foresee future possibilities and translate desires into wishes and new hope. Top of Page

Mar.09 – Sun trine Jupiter (in Pisces/Scorpio)

This is a time when your understanding of the Big Picture and your place within it can click into place. As a result, your confidence and self-esteem can be quite high right now. Your ability to see opportunities and possibilities more clearly can produce an experience of being "lucky." Your insight into life and the world around you may be especially bright, optimistic and inspired. This is a "feel-good" transit, when your sense of self can seem to expand and become free. You may feel especially connected to spiritual energy during this time. Just be careful that all this self-assurance and "knowing" doesn't backfire, by being too much of a good thing with those around you. There is a possibility you might be a bit over-confident and forget that what works for you doesn't necessarily work for everyone else. Beyond a reasonable caution, this is a transit to enjoy! Top of Page

Mar.11 – Venus opposite Saturn (in Aquarius/Leo)

There are realities to face and deal with, probably related to the way you handle relationships and/or finances. This is a time when you start to see a return on your investments—literally or figuratively. This could be an investment of energy, cooperation and good faith in a close relationship, or it might be the long-term development of a goal requiring financing or resources. It can be a time when "the bill comes in" and you are required to "put your money where your mouth is" and make a deeper commitment to that investment. Or, you might have to admit that the results are not what you had hoped for and you must decide whether to continue or reinvest your energies elsewhere. In other words, this is a time when something might come to an end or your situation becomes more stressful because you have some hard choices to make. The key is to take a long hard look at the realities before you—is it worth it to continue in the direction you're going? What is required if you decide to take it to the next step? The situation may demand effort, but there's also a more solid footing waiting on the other side. Top of Page

Mar.11 – Mars square Uranus (in Gemini/Pisces)

Erratic action and unpredictable impulses can surface under this transit. Active energy is more available now, but it can be very hard to control its direction, speed, intensity or predictability. Under this volatile atmosphere, unconscious or suppressed emotions (like anger, frustration, fear or desire) can jump out when you least expect them. Being accident prone is not uncommon. This can be great if you're trying to release inhibitions, find courage to sprint forward or break out of an old habit. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that your actions won't turn out to be destructive, counter-productive or too much of a good thing. You might be tempted to take greater risks than is wise, but this risk-taking impulse can also break you out of a rut too. It's important to use your best judgment when faced with this kind of potent yet volatile energy. Top of Page

Mar.11 – Mercury Retrograde conjunct Sun (in Pisces)

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface. Top of Page

Mar.14 – Venus Direct conjunct Chiron (in Aquarius)

Unresolved problems and old wounds in relationships and finances may be in the foreground now, with potential for a new beginning and healing. However, in order to heal something, it is first necessary to become more aware of what is out of balance, which can make a situation seem to get worse before it gets better. You have the ability to wound those close to you, as well as to bring healing, as you explore what is and isn't working in your relationships. It is also a time when your approach to finances and resources may require that you face some hard realities that may not be easily or quickly resolved, but dealing with any problems will give you the chance to achieve a new balance. This is especially true when it comes to the ways that you see your physical resources as a reflection of your self-worth, and the relationships in your life as a reflection of your lovability. These issues may become aggravated under this transit, but ultimately this is meant to increase your awareness of these issues so that you can start to heal them in new ways.

This is the last of three passes of this transit, the previous two being Dec.18.2005 and Dec.25.2005. This wraps up the process of development and healing that began in late December, and you may see events or changes now that have link back to that time period. Top of Page

Mar.14 – Mercury Retrograde trine Jupiter (in Pisces/Scorpio)

This is the retrograde pass of this transit, meaning that it is likely to bring back similar or repeating themes from the first pass (Feb.19). The ideas and possibilities that filled your mind at the first pass may now come back to be explored more deeply. Or, you might now see potential in those ideas that you missed the first time around. It's possible you might have second thoughts and doubts about ideas that previously seemed doable and exciting, although you may find that these doubts lead to even better ideas to explore and develop. Communication could suddenly seem like it's on "automatic pilot," where you have a constant stream of words coming out of your mouth but they're not very focused or productive. As a result, this can be a great time for brainstorming new possibilities and just getting ideas out there for future consideration, but might not be the best time to analyze and develop them. On the other hand, analysis could now become much more in-depth and produce unforeseen implications. Top of Page

Mar.14, 6:35 PM EST – LUNAR ECLIPSE in VIRGO ("What's a Lunar Eclipse?"  "What's a Full Moon?")

The eclipse season is upon us once again, which happens twice a year. We start this one out with a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo, which is a Full Moon in Virgo that is aligned so precisely that the Moon actually moves through the shadow cast by the Earth by the Sun's light. It's like a super charged Full Moon! We are more open to the tides of our unconscious feelings and needs, and these are even more likely to come flooding out of us now than during an "ordinary" Full Moon.

The Full Moon taking place in Virgo focuses our intuition, creativity and feelings on healing, work, service and perfection. We are called up on to balance the ambiguity of Pisces (where the Sun is) with the specific details of Virgo (where the Moon is). We are called upon to formulate concrete ways of making a contribution to the world around us, while staying connected to the higher inspiration and spiritual motivation that inspire it. It is a good time to nurture ourselves and those we care about—not by just cultivating emotional safety and belonging, but by encouragement to use concrete methods of improving our situation and ourselves. It is not enough to provide the ingredients to create what we want; we have to do what needs to be done to make that happen—and nothing is exempt from scrutiny in this process of problem solving and perfecting our efforts.

The Sun-Moon opposition joins with Pluto to form a stressful yet dynamic T-square aspect configuration. We are challenged to reach deep inside ourselves and use all of our passion and psychological honesty in service to this healing process. This may not be an easy part of the journey! What we find when we first look deep inside ourselves (or others) can sometimes be disturbing and overwhelming. This T-square challenges us to let go of the ineffective or destructive ideals and beliefs that we hold, which involves a kind of metaphorical death of something inside us that we have been attached to. This is a kind of detoxification (literally in terms of physical health, or figuratively in terms of psychological and spiritual purification), and out of this shedding process can emerge a renewed sense of meaning and purpose.

The Lunar Eclipse also marks a fruition point to the year-long process that was initiated at the Solar Eclipse on Oct.03. At that time, Mars had just turned retrograde, which created blocks, delays or underground movement in our plans and ambitions. Now, at the corresponding Lunar Eclipse, Mars squares Uranus, which may make us impatient and anxious to "just get on with it!" Mars now being in Gemini, we have a lot of ideas that we want to act on. However, with Mercury (ruler of Gemini) still being retrograde, there is a bit more information to be gathered before we truly have all our ducks in a row. This is a time when we might rev up our engines and poise our foot over the gas pedal, but it might be wise to wait until Mercury goes Direct on Mar.25 before we peel rubber and rocket forward.

Whereas Mars was in stressful opposition and Mutual Reception to Venus back in October, they are now in the more comfortable trine aspect, indicating that these mirror energies are able to cooperate and work together more easily now. Aggression works with cooperation, conflict blends more smoothly with negotiation, and raw instinct supports and assists refined protocol.

From now until the Solar Eclipse on Sep.22.2006, the influence of this Lunar Eclipse will play out and unfold, as we integrate and assimilate its energies into our lives.

Mar.16 – Jupiter square Neptune (in Scorpio/Aquarius)

This can be a time when you may have to question your belief system and philosophy of life. You are challenged to examine the ways that you use theory, speculation, wishful thinking and blind faith to justify your opinions and beliefs. There is a difference between the principles, opinions, attitudes and spiritual perspectives that we hold dear versus our personal, intimate experience of the vast Universe that shapes and gives rise to our beliefs. This transit (which only happens about every 6 years) can show how your beliefs, opinions and attitudes are misinformed, misguided or no longer fulfil your spiritual needs. You might come face to face with misconceptions you have held and realise that you have grown beyond your old viewpoints. You might find yourself disillusioned by something or someone you had placed a lot of faith in. Although this may bring deep disappointment, it also clears the way to see a higher, clearer truth. Faith that is founded only on wishful thinking or exaggerated optimism may make you more vulnerable to deception and poor judgment, so it is wise to do a reality check about major decisions with a trusted friend, mentor or expert. This can also be a time when you are challenged to expand your sense of spirituality, meaning and understanding of life to include more of your subject personal experience, rather than relying on conventional wisdom, doctrine or interpretation. If you have been drifting away from living according to your morals, ethics and principles, this may be a time when you become aware of the need to bring your choices and actions more in line with these.

This is the second of three passes—Jan.27, Mar.16 and Sep.24—during which you may need to reconsider the issues and challenges that came up around the first pass. This phase is like "doing your homework." You will apply what you learn now during the final pass.

Mar.17 – Sun square Pluto (in Pisces/Sagittarius)

This can be a challenging time, when your sense of purpose, identity and direction may feel blocked, overpowered or regulated by forces beyond your control. You may find yourself confronted by difficult situations or people, requiring that you rally an unusually strong show of power to keep from feeling powerless or overwhelmed. The trick is to center yourself in empowerment rather than simple power—that means your power comes from within yourself rather than from controlling people and situations outside of yourself. You might find yourself involved in power struggles or abandonment, either in the present or stirred up from the past. You might be forced to let go of your attachment to something or someone due to circumstances beyond your control. However, this can also be a time when you reach inside yourself and find you have more strength than you thought you did. Adversity may inspire new assertiveness and purpose in you—empowerment born of conflict and struggle.

Mar.18 – Mercury Retrograde square Mars (in Pisces/Gemini)

Fiery speech, argument, hot debate and impatience characterise this transit. You may encounter conflicts of interest and want to solve them NOW. And in your haste to find a quick fix, you could wind up creating more problems than you solve. You might also feel like you have hit an impasse or roadblock in a problem that began since Mercury entered the shadow (Feb.16). What you thought was a solution or agreement might now show itself to be unworkable or needing adjustment. Getting angry or frustrated is likely to just aggravate the situation, so it might be wise to vent these feelings well away from the actual situation or people that are triggering them. Your mind may see what needs to be said, but you could wind up blurting it out before you've had a chance to choose your words more carefully. Figure out what you really want, and when you feel a bit calmer and more grounded, THEN have your say. On the other hand, this could also be a time when you find the courage to speak up or assert yourself in situations where you have been overly inhibited before now. Don't become so calm that you lose your edge, but do use good judgment when choosing when and how to act. Use this energy to stoke your motivational fires and use your ideas to generate action (not reaction). Pace and harness the energy like a race horse. This is a time to "do your homework" and find new solutions to existing problems.

Mar.20 – VERNAL EQUINOX – Sun enters Aries (until Apr.20) ("What's an Equinox?")

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Aries! This is the Vernal Equinox—the time when day and night are of equal length. In the northern hemisphere, this marks the beginning of Spring, as the light increases. In the southern hemisphere, it is the start of Fall, as the light decreases. While the Sun is in Aries, it is a time when all of us (not just those born under the sign of Aries) have the opportunity to experience our Aries nature. The archetype of that nature is like the pure life force that is contained in a single seed. A seed is the residue of a previous cycle of growth—both its resulting harvest and its unfinished business. The Aries energy is about our use of that raw life force within our personal expression of that energy. It manifests in assertiveness, courage, risk-taking, directness, initiative, our sex drive, and the pioneering spirit. It can also emerge as aggression, pushiness, violence, anger, recklessness and self-absorption. The same forceful energy that can fuel damage and single-minded egotism is the same energy that, applied in a different way, is also essential for self-validation, confidence and the drive to make things happen. While the Sun is in Aries, we all have the opportunity to explore how we use this energy in our lives and whether we want to change this. Here are some suggestions about how to explore your Aries nature: Is there something new you want to start in your life? What activities do you want to begin that you’ve never done before? What will give you the courage and confidence to bring these into your life? If it is not possible to do this, or if you encounter delays, how do you deal with your frustration? Do anger and frustration motivate you to take action, or do these emotions tend to overwhelm and inhibit you? How do you express your anger, and does this clear the air or just create more problems? Use this time to explore these and related areas.

Mar.25 – Sun trine Saturn (in Aries/Leo)

This is a great time to apply yourself to serious work. You may feel especially self-sufficient and independent, with a strong and clear sense of self and purpose. There is support for your ambitions as long as you stay grounded and practical in how you approach them, which should come easily right now. Your ability to cooperate and feel comfortable with authority figures is likely to be high, along with your capacity to embrace your own authority and make solid decisions. This is a time when you are more likely to feel grounded and deal with problems in a practical, decisive way. Your energy may be more serious than "party animal," but even if you are in "party mode" it will be easier to realistically know your limits and not overdo it. If you've been waiting for the right time to move forward with or manifest a project or plan that you've been putting together (or wanting to), this could be the time when that happens. The final launch or manifestation may or may not happen now, but you will probably be able to at least move forward in some important steps.

Mar.25 – Venus square Jupiter (in Aquarius/Scorpio)

Your eyes may be bigger than your stomach (as Mom used to say) in the areas of relationships, spending, desires, pleasure and social contact. Your desire for fulfilment and satisfaction may exceed your resources or lead to excessive indulgence. You may also find you require more knowledge, understanding, faith, freedom or optimism than is available, making it tempting to inflate your estimated resources. Treat this as an opportunity to learn about how you over-compensate when faced with "not enough" and how to distinguish the illusion from the reality.

Mar.25 – Mercury stationary Direct (in Pisces) ("What's a Station?"  Read article about Stations and the Shadow.  Read article about Mercury Retrograde.)

For up to a week before and after today, you may experience mental intensity, confusion, and miscommunications or changes in your outlook, as Mercury takes the slow turn to resume his direction motion. Mercury has been retrograde since Mar.02, allowing you to rethink and rehash about things that required some fine-tuning or revision. This can be a time when a clear decision starts to emerge from issues you've been struggling with during the retrograde period. Or, it might turn your perspective around so that you're seeing it fresh again. Over the next couple of weeks, while Mercury is still in the Shadow, it may feel a bit like waking up to the dawn that returns after a night of starlight and darkness. It is now time to put into practice the learning you've gained from your retrograde dreams and moonlight visions. Just like when you wake up from a deep sleep, it will take time to get fully back into sync with the Mercury direct energy. So, take it slow, one step at a time, and untangle yourself one strand at a time.

Mar.25 – Mars trine Neptune (in Gemini/Aquarius)

This transit can bring a mystical, imaginative, compassionate aura to Mars' normally direct, fast, aggressive, self-focused energy. You may feel inspired to act on faith, confront with compassion, and react gently. On the other hand, it can be much easier to be motivated by something that turns out not to be what you thought it was. Much can depend on how impulsive your actions are and whether they are based on preplanning and research. We may tend to see our actions as righteous and justified. Creative energy is usually strong, whether this is used literally in the arts or in finding creative solutions to conflicts and problems. Our anger and aggression may be expressed in a way that is compassionate and intuitive, although our assertive edge might also be blunted a bit too much. It might help to think of the snake in the old parable—even if you choose not to bite if someone steps on your tail, it doesn’t mean you can’t hiss.

Mar.26 – Venus conjunct Neptune (in Aquarius)

This can be a time of romance and dreamy desire on one hand, or deceptive manipulation and self-serving negotiation on the other hand. At its best, this transit can inspire enormous creativity and healing faith in love and abundance. We can be extremely open to the loftiest possibilities of our close relationships and our ability to attract what and who we desire. However, it may not be as easy to assess these areas in light of the realities that must be dealt with in order to realise that potential. We may find it easier to have faith in the power of negotiation—that the Universe will ensure our desired outcome—but it is also easy to slide into wishful thinking that loses touch with the reality of the situation. If you are considering a major change involving income, investment, spending or resources, it is probably a good idea to do a reality check with a trusted friend or advisor. If you are starting a new relationship or negotiating changes to an existing one, it might be wise to take a long-term view to wait and see if your dreams really will come true or if your hopes are colouring your thinking a bit too much. A reality check with a trusted friend might also help with this. This transit begins a new cycle that brings these issues into our lives to explore and gradually unfolds over the next 12 months (approximately).

Mar.26 – Venus trine Mars (in Aquarius/Gemini)

It will be a lot easier to balance assertiveness with receptivity under this transit. In fact, it is a great time to take firm action that requires a sensitive touch, and to negotiate agreements in a way that is diplomatic, fair and powerful. Your ability to attract what you desire (money, love, pleasure, flirting, etc.), and to act on those desires, is strong right now, so use it wisely. This may include romantic attraction and sexual interaction, or it might involve artistic creativity. It could also be a time when your actions attract money and possessions, but it could also go the other way—your spending may also increase! Again: use this energy wisely and don't overextend yourself, but do have fun with it!

Mar.29 – Sun sextile Chiron (in Aries/Aquarius)

This is a time when you have an opportunity to mend and heal the chronic struggles in your life. You may find new inspiration, motivation or confidence that can help rejuvenate waning enthusiasm or reconcile persistent problems, although you'll still have to apply effort to bring it all together. You might get the chance to demonstrate your ability to walk your own path in a new way. Or, you might get a peek inside the hidden shadow of your worries and discouragement, giving you new insight into how you might be unconsciously sabotaging your conscious efforts. You may have to face a bit of your own fear of failure or low self-esteem before you can get beyond these feelings and tap into the benefits of this transit—not because you are failing but because these concerns may arise in response to the new potential now available to you. By tapping into this potential for creative problem solving, you can bring some healing to whatever your situation is.

Mar.29 – Pluto stationary Retrograde (in Sagittarius) ("What's a Station?"  Read articles about Retrograde Planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, Pluto's energy is especially strong and intense. You might experience this in the form of intensity, power struggles, deep psychological awareness or strong libido. You could encounter the need to face aspects of yourself or others that are disturbing or difficult to accept. There may also be some part of yourself or your life that has fulfilled its purpose and needs to be shed like a snake's skin. Over the next 5 months (while Pluto is retrograde), you will work at loosening and letting go of that "skin," and working toward the rebirth that will come out of it. This can also be a time when you become aware of the areas where you need to strengthen your personal empowerment or possibly need to tone down the way you wield power.
