Time to plant both feet firmly on the ground! Strength in balance. Ability to be both strong and flexible. Diplomacy and impartiality. These are the blessings of the New Moon in Libra.

Libra is all about balance, beauty, diplomacy, grace and style. The New Moon in this sign brings you in touch with the lovely, loving and loved side of life. Under Libra's spell, you may feel inspired to bring a gentle, soothing, graceful aura to everything and everyone around you. If you can focus into that loving centre inside you, you could share and spread that loving glow out to others.

Libra is also about relationships of all kinds—romantic, intimate, business partnerships, even adversarial. If it involves one-to-one interaction, it's in Libra's territory. Through interaction, Libra seeks to find balance. "Me" versus "You" ideally becomes "Us." And "We" could be friend or foe to each other. But as long as there is some kind of interaction or exchange of energy, Libra can be quite happy.

To Libra, interaction is all about balance. If you are aggressive, I might respond with gentle diplomacy, hoping to find a happy medium through a complementary balance—the balance of opposites. Or, I might react with equal aggression, hoping to achieve a balance of equals. One way or another, the scales of justice (Libra's symbol) will find their balance.

This dance can become quite intricate and complex! If I sense aggression in you, for example, I might meet this with a carefully choreographed reply designed to be aggressive but in a hidden or ambiguous way. This is often called "passive aggressive." It is when someone smiles sweetly as they shake your hand, while shrewdly scheming to steer you in a direction of their choosing. You could see this either as manipulation or as shrewd manoeuvring (depending on which side of the balance you're on and whether you approve or disapprove of the intended result).

This is Libra's high art of strategy! Although Libra is usually seen as the peace-maker, it can just as easily be seen as a war-maker. How appropriate that this dualistic sign should have two distinctly different sides! Libra can live by the policy of "peace at any price," but "peace" might also mean "let's do it my way (or else!)" Libra can persuade through diplomacy, cooperation, compromise and encouragement, but it can also hold its ground and engage in combat if necessary.

At this particular New Moon in Libra, Venus is just catching up to Saturn. You may remember that back in June, July and August, Venus and Saturn did a little dance in Leo, as Venus conjoined Saturn, twice, then slowed down and went retrograde. Venus and Saturn remained within an 8-degree orb for about two months. Gentle, sensual Venus might seem to be mismatched with strict, dispassionate Saturn. However, from a Libra perspective, they have more in common than you might think.

Both Venus and Saturn enjoy Libra's energy. Venus is the ruling planet of Libra and is strengthened by being in that sign. Venus brings a loving, beautifying, compassionate agenda to Libra's quest for balance and justice. Saturn is "exalted" in Libra, meaning it is also strengthened when in that sign. Saturn brings structure, boundaries and stability to Libra's tendency to swing back and forth (when making a decision, for example). Libra ensures that Saturn doesn't become too solitary or rigid, and is able to consider different sides of a situation. Although Venus and Saturn are now in Virgo (not Libra), they are like old allies who know how to benefit from the common ground they share.

So this final Venus-Saturn conjunction in a 4-month process has implications for the Libra New Moon, since both planets find their common ground in that sign. The question is: how will the Venus and Saturn energies in you interact? Will these different but allied energies compete for control, or will they be able to cooperate and combine their strengths?

Much depends on how comfortable you are with each planetary energy. You might feel more comfortable in Venus' agreeable, charming nature and feel Saturn is cold and harsh, so your Venus side might try to obtain "peace at any price." On the other hand, you might favour Saturn's strength, standards, predictability and clear boundaries ("good fences make good neighbours"), and feel Venus must give away too much power and position to stand her ground. In that case, you might find you prefer to draw up the rule book first with Saturn's clarity and practicality, and negotiate the details later with the gentler style of Venus.

Mercury is stationary at the time of the New Moon! ("What does stationary mean?") It turns retrograde the next day. Both this and the fact that it is in Scorpio will bring enormous intensity to the already potent energy of the New Moon. Mercury is also stationing while in a tight square aspect to Chiron (although it doesn't become exact until Mercury comes back later on Nov.19). This could force you to face some flaws that protect you from having to admit you're wrong. Or you might need to deal with health issues caused or aggravated by stress and trying to exert too much control over your surroundings. Alternatively, it could be a time when you feel you are within reach of some important new insights about healing, although further research or exploration is necessary before you're ready to put them into practice.

The final Jupiter-Uranus square is still very close, having been exact on Oct.09. This contributes a challenging edge to the New Moon cycle, as we reach to find ethical and spiritual guidelines while remaining free enough to break the rules if that seems important or desirable to do. How to reconcile these two perspectives? The Libra lunar cycle offers a chance to find the centre point of balance where justice for all concerned can be found.

A personal reading can be a powerful way to explore all the different perspectives and potentials that this lunar cycle brings. It can help you reframe experiences so that you are seeing them in a new light. The upcoming Mercury retrograde is also a good time to explore what is going on in your life under the surface. I am available for personal readings. Find out more...

Oct.12 – Mercury stationary Retrograde (09:04 of Scorpio)

Mercury now goes retrograde until Nov.01 (Nov.02 in AU). For up to a week before and after today, Mercury is moving very slowly or stopped during the station. This greatly intensifies Mercury's energy! During this time, you may experience intensity, frustration, confusion, miscommunications, or feel like you're getting bogging down in your progress. Mercury retrograde is usually a time when it is best to rethink, rehash, reflect, and tie up old loose ends, rather than begin new ventures. It is typical for new insights and information to emerge later in the retrograde cycle that you didn't anticipate, which can change the whole picture. Because of this, it is usually advised to avoid making final or permanent decisions (e.g., signing contracts or putting new projects into action), during the retrograde and even up to 2 weeks after Mercury goes direct. However, it is an excellent time to do fact-finding, research and investigation to prepare for major decisions, which are usually best put off until well after Mercury goes direct. In the meantime, while Mercury is retrograde, expect the unexpected, and leave lots of extra time when planning your schedule (to minimize any disruptions from delays and complications). Stay flexible; for example, it's common to have to reschedule appointments. Do some things that use your intuitive, creative, non-rational mind for a while until Mercury goes direct again.

Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, so you may find you are extra sensitive to the undercurrents around you, especially the energy in other people that pushes your buttons and might make you feel "on guard." Your attempts to voice your concerns and perceptions to others may or may not be well received. You might be picking up on something they're not aware of (and might prefer you weren't either). It may help to remember that it is ultimately possible to control only ourselves. You are therefore challenged to look into your own "shadow" -- the part of yourself that lives in your internal blind spot. Take a long look at yourself, your motives and assumptions, which may reveal issues in need of some intense self-honesty. You might feel a bit wary or suspicious of people and situations outside of yourself. However, even though the objective situation may be real and valid, there is probably also something about your experience of it that originates within yourself. It will help to shine a light into your unconscious to learn how you are playing a role in the situation. This can transform mental defensiveness into true empowerment by shifting your perception of events, allowing you to choose a different response and therefore a different outcome, especially after Mercury goes direct.

Oct.12 – Sun Trine Neptune (19:21 of Libra/Aquarius) (Oct.13 in UK, AU)

Faith in the bountiful blessings of the Universe is within reach under this transit...but then, so is the fantasy that you will be magically granted anything you wish for. Hope, optimism and imagination spring eternal right now, which can bring some relief from any depression or discouragement you might be feeling. Your creativity can become very inspired under this transit. Your sense of self could also get an infusion of uplifting vision. And you experience a sense of mission, feeling that you are truly a Child of the Universe. There is potential to lift you out of the ordinary and into the sublime -- spiritually, creatively, romantically or compassionately. Enjoy it while it lasts, but before you make changes based on what might feel like a permanent condition, remember that this is mostly a temporary influence and you will still have to live within the bounds of the physical world after it passes. Don't make overly optimistic promises now, that you will have to fulfil later when the euphoria wears off.

Oct.14 – Venus conjunct Saturn (04:51 of Virgo)

The serious structure and responsibility of Saturn combines with the desire for pleasure, beauty and material abundance in Venus. This can be a good time to make concrete plans about financial matters (e.g., investments, budgeting, purchases, etc.), although this will work best if you do some serious research first, rather than simply going for whatever seems to "feel good." This is a time to begin a process of commitment, whether that involves developing your resources to achieve a certain goal, or negotiating the terms of a relationship or partnership. However, in order to clear the way for new commitments to flourish down the road, sometimes old commitments must be brought to a close first. So this may also be a time when previous involvements or plans may come to an end, especially if they no longer fulfil your needs or lack enough potential to reach your desired goals. In a similar way, you might find yourself blocked from being able to move forward in the areas of relationships, finances or pleasures. These areas may require some reworking or reconsideration before you're ready to proceed.

Venus and Saturn travelled in a long conjunction back in June, July and August, around the time when Venus went retrograde and fell behind Saturn. Now Venus has caught up to Saturn again, which completes a long process that began back in June. So... what has been evolving, unfolding and developing in your life during that time? Have you been coming to terms with some hard realisations or decisions in a close relationship or in your work? Have you had to buckle down and get serious about finances, income, purchases or resources? Or perhaps you've been revising and reforming your values and making some hard decisions to reprioritize what is important in your life?

During October (and especially around mid-month), you will complete the process that has been unfolding since June. It may be time to apply what you've learned during this time. Perhaps there are decisions or choices you need to make, which will benefit from the experience you've acquired in the last four months. This is not a good time for blind faith, but a time to pay attention to the facts and realities in front of you.

Oct.16 – Venus sextile Mars (07:05 of Virgo/Cancer) (Oct.17 in AU)

It is possible now to take a balanced approach to conflict, problems and projects that require effort. This can combine both a gentle touch and firm action; sensitivity and forcefulness. Negotiation and interaction with others could be aggressive and determined now, but also balanced with sensitivity and style. Any expressions of anger, frustration or discontent are more likely to be tempered with fairness, moderation and composure. You'll have to apply some effort to get these opposite energies working in sync together, but the potential and opportunity are there more-so than usual now.

Oct.16 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Venus (07:26 of Scorpio/Virgo) (Oct.17 in UK, AU)

There is a potential to benefit from social connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness during this transit, although a certain amount of effort is needed to make this happen. It can be a good time for negotiating contracts and other agreements, especially if you consciously focus your intent on achieving balance with your counterpart, partner or opponent that results in a win-win situation for all concerned. There is also potential to appreciate and express beauty, pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone in your life that you want to get closer to, try speaking gently and listening receptively, which can be the key that opens the door to harmonious interaction. Creative ideas can also find expression now if you apply your conscious awareness to bring them into focus. The thing to watch for is a tendency to use manipulation to achieve an advantage, which might be done by you or to you. Keep communication straightforward and clear, and find diplomatic ways to deal with manipulation if you sense it happening.

Oct.17 – Mercury Retrograde trine Mars (07:17 of Scorpio/Cancer)

It may be easy to find the courage to speak your mind and say what needs to be said, under this transit. In fact, your ideas and words may come so quickly and easily that it's hard to stop them from tumbling out of your mouth before you've had a chance to evaluate the best way to say them. Your communication is likely to be direct, concise and right on the mark, even if it might also be a bit blunt or pointed. If you need to confront someone about a difficult situation, this transit can provide courage and clear words to help you do that -- although perhaps not as good for a situation requiring a more delicate, sensitive touch. It is a time when you could potentially find the nerve to take risks, or to defend yourself if the need arises (especially verbally). Overall, this is a wonderful transit for anything involving direct communication (e.g., public speaking, writing, debating), as well as mental agility (e.g., generating ideas, finding solutions, making decisions).

Oct.19 – Chiron stationary Direct (10:28 of Aquarius) ("What's a Station?"  "What's the Shadow?"   Article about Stations and Shadows.) (Oct.20 in AU)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a bit like you're caught between worlds—the spiritual versus the physical, the mental versus the emotional, or the outer objective world versus your inner subjective experience. Chiron has been retrograde since May.08, giving us time to assess the places in our lives that need healing and to discover the ways that we might be wounding ourselves or others. This includes physical health issues, emotional vulnerability and mental perspectives that create more problems than they solve. As Chiron turns direct, everything we have learned over the last five months becomes ready to be applied over the coming three months (while Chiron is still in the Shadow until Feb.03.2008). Right now, you might find you reach a decision or turning point about issues you have wrestled with since May concerning goals, career, expectations or authority. If these issues have been stressful, this might come out now in the form of health problems, so it's a good idea to be gentle yet disciplined with yourself in this area. It could be a time of ambiguity, feeling like you're caught in a whirlpool that mixes up possibilities with limitations. Or, you might experience some clarity, as the paradoxical coexistence of realities and potentials on the path before you come into clearer focus. Either way, it is a time that can be magical because of its ability to bridge the gap between what is and what might be.

Oct.20 – Sun sextile Pluto (26:47 of Libra/Sagittarius)

Your sense of purpose is potentially strong now, being able to tap into a deeper level of energy and determination. Your personality may be more forceful now, which can be great if you need to make a strong impression but perhaps not so much in situations requiring delicacy or subtlety. You have greater ability to see below the surface of things now, although it may not be as easy to put it all together and understand what it all means. It can be possible to unearth secrets or get at the core of unconscious patterns (yours and others'). However, you'll have to work to harvest the fruit of these potentials, and some of the insights and benefits may not become apparent until later.

Oct.23 – Sun enters Scorpio (until Nov.22/23) (Oct.24 in AU)

Happy Solar Return to all Scorpios! While the Sun is in Scorpio, we all get to explore our passions and probe the secrets within our depths. There is an intensity to the Scorpio experience that goes right to the core, and Scorpio challenges you to take a closer look at how that intensity manifests in your psyche. What are you passionate about and what fires up that passion? What events and experiences have brought you to "rock bottom" and then turned the tide to rejuvenate you back to a new lease on life? What people, causes, beliefs or physical things are so important to you that you would even risk death for? What secrets do you harbour inside, even from yourself? Posing these hypothetical questions doesn't mean you'll bring it on! But doing so can help you tap into the Scorpio experience to understand better how you experience transformation and touch the deepest heart of life itself. The danger is in becoming so obsessed with your passion that you neglect the practical realities. Or, you could become stuck in the "dark side" of transformation and letting go of the old, that you forget that figurative death and transformation are meant to lead into rebirth in order to complete the cycle. During this time, celebrate the endings in your life. Honour the hard times when you have had to face painful losses. And take passionate pleasure in the things that pull you out of your routines and make you feel alive. In some way, they have all allowed you to survive, thrive and grow.

Oct.23 – Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (00:12 of Scorpio) (Oct.24 in UK, AU)

During this transit, your sense of self and purpose can become merged with what you think, perceive and say. On one hand, this can make for an easy flow of ideas and communication from inside your brain to the external world. It can also increase your perceptions and observations of the world, as you file it all away in your internal database. On the other hand, you may find yourself a bit tongue-tied, as it could be hard to separate your sense of self from your perceptions and ideas enough to find the words to adequately express them. In that case, just observe and go with the flow; the words will come later. It can also be a time when it's not easy to be objective, especially about yourself and how you bring yourself to the world around you. It's like your Being automatically expresses and sets into motion the things you think, perceive and want to say. This can help you to feel like your sense of self is shining effortlessly, but if your thoughts and perceptions are in conflict with other parts of you (e.g., emotions, needs, objectivity) then it might become a time when you act a little too quickly with blinders on. Strive for balance and self-honesty before you act.

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface.

Oct.23 – Mercury Retrograde enters Libra (until Nov.11) (Oct.24 in UK, AU)

Mercury is retrograde in Libra, which can lead you to reconsider choices you thought you had already made. Agreements with others (especially those close to you) might need to be renegotiated or adjusted. It may become important to discuss issues with your partner or spouse that have been lurking in the background but now become foremost in your mind. It might be difficult to know how to be diplomatic, sensitive or gentle in your style of communication. For example, which is kinder -- to say something difficult and risk hurting the person, or to avoid saying it and risk telling a "lie of omission" and damaging their trust? You may be faced with these kinds of choices that have no clear answer, yet you must decide which path to take. You might find you can listen better under this transit, yet you could find it difficult to verbalize or give feedback about what you hear. At its worst, indecision could become paralyzing, as each choice seems to create more problems than it solves. It might seem like you can only "pick your poison" and deal with the consequences. It's probably wise to wait until well after Mercury has gone direct before you make any important decisions, in this case. If that's not possible, it may help to talk to someone you feel comfortable with who is good at simplifying and organising things.

Oct.23 – Saturn conjunct South Lunar Node (05:45 of Virgo) ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Saturn has been lurking around the South Lunar Node since the beginning of September and will remain within a wide orb until around mid-December. The "hot zone" when they are within a one-degree orb is Oct.15-28. During this overall time, we are letting go of old baggage and assimilating our hard-won experience into our sense of reality. The South Node is the place where we let go of things—where the lessons that have been in the foreground now becomes absorbed into the background as knowledge learned. Saturn is about your experience—your encounters with reality that shape you and teach you. Saturn also brings the consequences of your past actions and decisions, as well as the rewards for the hard work you've done within your struggles. With Saturn, you reap the results of whatever you have sown—a kind of "karma."

Saturn conjuncting the South Node is therefore the turning point in the struggles, challenges goals and ambitions you have endured and wrestled with over the last 5-6 years, since Saturn last conjoined the North Node in 2002. At that time you may have taken on a project, a goal or a hardship in your life, challenging you to come to terms with what is. This may have taken the form of a person who challenged you to stretch yourself and achieve more. Or it might have been someone who held you back or blocked your path in some way. Although this might have been painful or frustrating initially, if you look back on the ways you have dealt with that situation, you may find you have learned new skills or alternative ways of doing things that you might not have acquired otherwise.

Now, as Saturn reaches the South Node, it is time to let go of what has been. Perhaps you are now able to see the deeper issues that have blocked your way (personified or aggravated by that person 5 years ago). Or maybe you can now see more clearly the ways your behaviour or choices have been counter-productive, and you are ready to find ways to let go of the old ways to make room for the new. Or, you might have been working hard to make changes in your life and now you can start to see the results of this. Your lesson may shift from challenging and changing your old patterns to a new challenge of making adjustments in the rest of your life as a result of those changes.

So... what can you now live without that you once thought was necessary to your survival? What changes are you seeing in your life now that seemed inevitable—or impossible—5 years ago? What people came into your life (or were active in your life) 5 years ago, who facilitated, demanded or challenged you to make the changes you've made since then? And what people are in your life now who can help you achieve this change of focus?

Oct.25 – Venus opposite Uranus (15:09 of Virgo/Pisces)

Relationships, social interaction, material resources and emotional balance may be a bit unpredictable or unstable around this time, as Uranus the Awakener sounds a wake-up gong in these areas. You may be more inclined to act out of character, to experiment or be reckless in relationship, social or financial matters, which could be liberating or disturbing, exciting or upsetting. Circumstances or other people might create a situation in which you are forced to respond in an unusual or unfamiliar way. The idea behind this energy is to become more flexible and more open to a broader vision of what is possible in those areas. There may be weak spots in the affected areas which this transit illuminates by creating problems, so that they can be repaired and strengthened, or else broken and released so that new opportunities can come in. Trust the process and keep your eyes open to seeing new truth and insight.

Sabian Symbol for the
Full Moon in Taurus

Taurus 3

Steps up to a lawn blooming in clover.

What a lovely sensual image for Taurus! This Sabian Symbol ("What's a Sabian Symbol?") brings to mind a guided meditation in which you're asked to imagine your prefect peaceful place. The steps provide a sequence of progression to a place of fulfilment.

Dane Rudhyar notes: "To reach the flowering garden of mind, the consciousness must proceed by steps. ... What is reached is a flowering display of the simple, quite humble kind, yet bees are after it for honey. There is sweetness and energy latent in the blossoms." (An Astrological Mandala)

And yet, you are not magically transported, but must get there under your own steam. "A time of fulfilment is close, but there is still some small effort to be made," notes Lynda Hill. (360 Degrees of Wisdom) You must still climb the steps to reach the destination. You must strive to find a middle ground between enjoyment and overindulgence, between abundance and greed, before you can reap the full rewards that the Taurus Full Moon offers.

Marc Edmund Jones, the co-creator of the Sabian Symbols, says: "When positive, the degree is a creative optimism brought to embrace every facet of everyday striving, and when negative, an unwarranted self-indulgence and a disregard of all practical reality through a concern over the phantasmal and impossible." (The Sabian Symbols in Astrology) In other words, allow your striving to be inspired and motivated by hope for growth and betterment, rather than to force circumstances to conform to your ideals.

Oct.26, 12:51 AM EDT – FULL MOON in TAURUS (02:23 of Taurus) ("What's a Full Moon?"  Read more about the Sun-Moon cycles.  Read more about the Taurus side of your nature.)
Oct.26, 5:51 AM BST in UK
Oct.26, 2:51 PM AEST in AU

Normally Taurus is associated with tranquility, calm, pleasure, and taking a nice, leisurely, slow pace through life. Taurus is about putting down roots and creating stability. The Moon is very comfortable in Taurus and is considered "exalted" there. In other words, the Moon and Taurus enhance each other's best qualities. Taurus gives the Moon the security it needs to feel safe, and the Moon gives Taurus a sense of personal sensitivity, receptivity and caring.

Taurus amasses possessions, finances and resources so that it has everything it needs readily available. Taurus' reputation for being possessive is usually well-deserved, although this is essentially about protection from not having enough of what is needed. Poverty—whether it's material or psychological or spiritual—is a terrible thing to have to live with day in and day out. It erodes and crushes the spirit. The Taurus part of us seeks to protect us from having to suffer through that.

To do that, Taurus strives to create stability so that the "lows" are supplemented by the surplus from the "highs." Slow, evenly paced, stable, methodical, consistent, one step at a time—these are the qualities Taurus uses to ensure we have a strong foundation on which to build our lives. It may not be sexy or exciting, but it sure helps to ensure you have your basic human needs met. Without that, everything else is a hundred times harder.

That's how Taurus prefers to operate. However, this Full Moon in Taurus is likely to be a little different from the usual!

For starters, Mercury is still retrograde. Although Mercury is not the planetary ruler of Taurus (Venus is), when Mercury is retrograde, nothing behaves as expected! Your thoughts, words and perceptions are likely to be a bit distorted, confused or fragmented. Under a Full Moon—when everyone's emotions are at full volume—it may not be wise to rely on rational thought to get you through. Your thoughts could be highly affected by your emotional state AND your emotions could be affected by thoughts and perceptions that are not entirely clear or accurate. The Taurus Moon's message to Mercury is: slow down, don't rush, have patience, enjoy the ride; it will all resolve itself in time.

Venus, Taurus' planetary ruler, is in Virgo—not the easiest placement for Venus. Venus may feel a bit too restricted by Virgo's formula for perfection which demands precision and practicality. Venus—especially the Taurus side of Venus—would rather be guided by pleasure, beauty and enjoyment of creature comforts. The stress put on Venus by the constraints of Virgo will be passed into the energy of the Full Moon, as we strive to attain a feeling of well-being while being nagged by the need for practical improvement.

Venus is still very closely opposite Uranus (Oct.25), which will also colour our experience of Taurus energy at the Full Moon. Uranus is anything but predictable, stable, methodical or slow-paced! Uranus wants to shake us out of our old habits—to wake us up and make us more alive. Taurus' use of our senses is for pleasure and enjoyment. Uranus wants to sharpen our senses so that we're ready for anything. This is another handicap for Venus, who must find pleasure and harmony in unusual, unfamiliar or sporadic ways.

This isn't all bad, though! This also gives Venus (and therefore, you) a chance to experiment, explore and try on some new "clothes" to see how they fit. Discover some new colours in the rainbow! Taste something you've never eaten before. Become aware of your sense of smell in a whole new way. Be open to finding delight in surprising places.

There are two aspect configurations that the Sun-Moon opposition are part of. One is a Rectangle figure. I've never heard a name for it, so let's call it a Square Rectangle or Hard Rectangle, since it is formed of aspects that are derived from stressful yet dynamic square aspects. The Sun-Moon opposition is turned 45 degrees from the Venus-Uranus opposition. This aspect figure will really challenge the possessiveness, stubbornness and orderliness of Taurus to deal with and embrace spontaneity, randomness and the need to let go.

The Sun-Moon opposition also forms the "spine" of a Quadriform Kite aspect figure, combined with Venus square Jupiter. In addition, the Venus-Jupiter square is part of a T-square with Uranus. This can be a time of extremes of indulgence and desire.

Under the combined energy of these planets, "your eyes can be bigger than your stomach" (so to speak), meaning that you may desire more than you can consume (literally or figuratively). With Taurus' love of material abundance, this could tip into greed or stinginess. With the Taurus' love of good food and sensual pleasures, overindulgence may feel luxurious ...until you step on the scales later!

The best strategy is to focus on quality rather than quantity, or to put some healthy boundaries and limits on the extent to which you indulge your desires. With Saturn still very closely conjunct the South Lunar Node (exact on Oct.23, but within orb for several weeks before and after), it might be necessary to muster up some discipline now or deal with consequences instead.

On the other hand, if you normally live a very controlled existence and long to break free, this energy could give you the push you need. You will still likely have consequences and the ghosts of past patterns and habits to deal with, but it may be a time when indulgence, enjoyment and pleasure-seeking are irresistible.

Overall, this Full Moon in Taurus asks the musical question: What do you really want? What is worth the price of indulgence, and what price is too high? If you only have a moment to enjoy, what would you choose? And if you knew you had to pay a high price for that enjoyment afterwards, would it still be worth it? If not, what would your choice be?

These are the questions to ponder at the Full Moon. It may be helpful to seek out guidance, feedback and insight from your astrologer or other source of support during this time.

Oct.26 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Pluto (26:56 of Libra/Sagittarius) (Oct.27 in AU)

Penetrating insights and passionate communication are possible under this transit ...although, so is speaking more forcefully than you intend to about things that require a bit of delicacy or discretion. It is also a time when your mental concentration can come together so easily that you become obsessed. You may prefer in-depth discussion to small-talk, and it might feel awkward if you aren't able to explore the depths in your interaction or communication with others. However, you likely have an increased ability to pick up on undercurrents of what's happening around you. This is also a time when you can start to shed and leave behind old worn out perceptions and ways of communicating. You also have an increased ability to take thoughts, ideas and information and transform them into something healing ...or wounding. Choose your words carefully and mindfully. Writing down your thoughts and ideas to capture the energy of this transit can help you gather the deeper qualities.

Oct.27 – Pluto conjunct the Galactic Center (at 26:57 of Sagittarius)

This is the third and final pass of Pluto over the centre point of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. The first two passes were Dec.29.2006 and Jul.16.2007. The Galactic Centre (GC) is a point that some astrologers began using fairly recently – only in the last few decades at the most, I imagine. So we're not completely sure what the GC does in a chart. It tends to be seen as a point where planets that conjunct it are greatly amplified and intensified in their energy. Pluto has been conjoining the GC in Sagittarius throughout 2006 and 2007. We have seen world events that reflect enormous intensity, especially about power struggles, religious conflict, moral dilemmas and international issues – things associated with Pluto and/or Sagittarius. One could certainly say these are issues of fundamental and central importance to our world and future, as befitting an alignment with the centre of our galaxy.

If you have any natal planets/points within a degree or two of 26 degrees in Sagittarius (or other Mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Pisces), this has likely been a very intense couple of years, as Pluto has transited that natal point. It can help to process what you've been through during the finale of such a transit. I am available for personal readings by phone, which could help you put things into perspective and see a clear path so you can move on as Pluto does.

(Please note: North America returns to Standard Time on Nov.04.)

Oct.29 – Venus square Jupiter (19:06 of Virgo/Sagittarius)

"Your eyes are bigger than your stomach" (as Mom used to say). That means you are more likely now to over-indulge, especially in the areas of relationships, spending, desires, pleasure and social contact. Your desire for fulfilment and satisfaction may exceed your resources, and you might not even realise it until the bill comes in later (probably under a Saturn transit ;-). You may also find you require more knowledge, understanding, faith, freedom or optimism than you have available, making it tempting to compensate by inflating what you really have. For example, you might want to resort to flattery, manipulation or over-optimism in an effort to make up for a lack of genuine confidence, rapport or preparation. However, this can also be a time when your creativity is running high and you are able to pull rabbits out of your hat on a moment's notice. The problem is that you could over-extend yourself by doing so.

Oct.29 – Sun sextile Saturn (06:20 of Scorpio/Virgo) (Oct.30 in UK, AU)

You have an opportunity now to make some progress in obtaining results in your projects, career, ambitions and creative expression. It is possible to tap into a disciplined mindset, which can be used to take some steps toward goals that you're trying to manifest. You are surrounded by potential to achieve this, although it will not simply be handed to you -- you will still have to work for it. Your mind and purpose are likely to be clear and strong now, enabling you to be decisive and productive. Leadership, management and organizing abilities are potentially high right now. Asserting your authority in a situation that calls for it can be done successfully, as long as you don't let yourself become rigid or bossy. It can be a good time to learn or practice new skills, or to apply yourself to any kind of serious study. It is also a time when you could formulate some solid plans for future projects or make some progress with current undertakings. Make the most of it!

Oct.29 – Jupiter sextile Neptune (19:15 of Sagittarius/Aquarius) (Oct.30 in UK, AU)

Spiritual love and beauty. Justice with compassion and mercy. Transcending your usual comfort zone. Escape from stress and condemnation. All these can be yours for the price of surrendering your blame, judgment, distrust and scepticism. If these "negative" qualities have been overwhelming you, this transit could give you the relief and release you've been longing for. On the other hand, this combination could also generate so much "sweetness and light" that it's difficult to navigate through the rougher corners of reality. This might seem like a preferred way to travel ...until you have to deal with a "stubbed toe" later. The moral of this story is to surrender your counter-productive stress, not your better judgment.

This is the only exact pass of this transit, although in April 2007 Jupiter stationed less than 2 degrees from making the sextile to Neptune. You were within sniffing distance of this delightful aroma for the first half of this year, and now luxuriously bathing in it throughout October and November. This pass could therefore be a return of feel-good times and inspiring optimism that ventured near, several months ago. It could also be the return of temptation that lures you away from a more disciplined, ordered lifestyle—which could be a good thing ...or something to be indulged only in moderation.

Oct.31 – Neptune stationary Direct (19:15 of Aquarius) ("What's a station?"  "What's the shadow?"   Article about stations and shadows.) (Nov.01 in AU)

Neptune now turns direct, after being retrograde since May.24. For up to a week before and after this date, you might feel a bit inspired, creative, dreamy, disconnected, depressed, sluggish and/or scatter-brained. The Neptune energy takes you into a non-rational, intuitive place and can stir up feelings and issues from the unconscious. Vivid dreams could give you insight into situations you have been wrestling with, and your intuitive sensitivity might seem to come out of nowhere. Or you might experience the opposite—your dreams elude you and you feel cut off from your usual intuitive sense. What is happening is that your "right-brain" (intuitive, creative, non-rational, faith-oriented) is passing the torch to your "left-brain" (rational, logical, linear, practical), and you can get caught in the whirlpool of transition. Try not to control the process, but allow it to carry you and point you in a different direction. The learning you have gathered over the last five months or so—related to spirituality, longing, inspiration, creativity, imagination, fantasy, divination and intuition—can now start to be applied more directly in your life over the next few months. It may be possible to channel your experience into a creative form—possibly artistic, but definitely creating something new out of what has been, which can ultimately be healing and uplifting.

Oct.31 – Happy Samhain and Halloween!

Nov.01-09 – Grand Trine in Water Signs (Sun-Mars-Uranus)

The Sun, Mars and Uranus conspire to wake up your feelings! They form a Grand Trine aspect configuration, which brings these planetary energies into harmonious camaraderie. During this time, you have the opportunity to tap into some very exciting, vibrant and animated energy. The catch is that Trine aspect energy can often be taken for granted and not used to its fullest potential. You might just notice that your energy level flows a bit more easily, or your mood is a bit more lively. However if you're willing to stretch yourself a bit, there is potential here to inspire you creatively, to find courage, take risks, and find unconventional and daring solutions to emotionally charged problems. This energy is closest and strongest between Nov.03-06.

Nov.01 – Mercury stationary Direct (23:23 of Libra)

For up to a week before and after today, you may experience mental intensity, confusion, and miscommunications or changes in your outlook. Mercury is taking a slow turn to resume his direction motion, officially changing direction today. Mercury has been retrograde since Oct.12, urging you to rethink and rehash things that have required some fine-tuning or revision. This can be a time when a clear decision starts to emerge from issues you've been struggling with during the retrograde period. Or, it might turn your perspective around so that you're seeing your situation fresh again. Over the next couple of weeks, while Mercury is still in the Shadow, your brain may feel a bit like it's waking up after a deep sleep. It is now time to gradually put into practice the learning you've gained from your retrograde dreams and moonlight visions. It will take time to get fully back into sync with the Mercury direct energy. So, take it slow, one step at a time, and untangle yourself one strand at a time.

Nov.03 – Sun square Chiron (10:35 of Scorpio/Aquarius)

Your self-confidence and patience may be a bit strained right now, stretched by the urge to break free of chronic constraints. Motivation and self-esteem may seem to sag and suffer from old problems that you thought were resolved. This is probably because you are seeing "the flaws in the system" that are preventing you from getting the results you want. It will help to take a fresh approach to your situation. You may need to let go of what you think the results "should be" or how they should come to you. Be open to getting what you want in a different form than you were expecting. You may have to work extra hard for results now, especially if it means having to find a different route to success. If it seems like a door of opportunity has closed, look for an unexpected advantage or hidden alternative. This could allow you to tap into other opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Nov.04 – Change to Standard Time (North America)

North America: 2:00 AM (turn clocks back one hour)

(Please note: Daylight Savings Time not used in all parts of Canada and the US. Please consult local authorities for your district.)

Nov.04 – Sun Trine Mars (11:39 of Scorpio/Cancer)

Your energy, purpose, vitality and health are likely to be strong and clear during this transit. Your sense of purpose is supported by your ability to assert yourself and take a stand for what you want and what you believe in. In general, this transit is a great time to take action, especially if you have prepared the way and have all your ducks in a row. If you've been waiting for a spurt of self-confidence or motivation, this transit could give you the push you need to move forward in your plans or goals. Strive to be spontaneous rather than impulsive, and confident rather than arrogant.

Nov.06 – Venus Square Pluto (27:12 of Virgo/Sagittarius)

Relationships and interactions are likely to be deep, intense and transformative under this transit. The same goes for your sense of beauty, and your material and financial dealings, which may require you to delve far deeper than usual to discover the truth under the surface of things. You may encounter the dark shadow of your desires -- the obscure, secret or unconscious hunger that hides underneath the "politically correct" face you show to the world (and to yourself. This is a challenge to be resolved in some way. It might bring out conflict rooted in envy or jealousy, if someone has something (or someone) that you feel you are entitled to. Or, it might prompt you to reach very deep into your soul to find your inner beauty and value. You may be challenged to develop empathy or empowerment about something that initially seemed undesirable, unforgivable or scary. This transit can show you the problem areas that need to be transformed and healed. And seeing these more clearly can be a catharsis that sets that transformative healing in motion.

Nov.07 – Sun Trine Uranus (14:54 of Scorpio/Pisces) (Nov.08 in AU)

You are more open than usual to spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and fun are let loose during this transit, as is your ability to break out of old outworn habits. You may get a flash of insight, a burst of courage or a surge of inspiration under this transit. The spirit of who you are can become released now, possibly leading to you behaving a bit "out of character." It's a great time to try new things and experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual routine...so much so, that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. If your self-confidence, self-expression or self-esteem have been stifled or dampened lately, these could come flying out rather erratically, carelessly or chaotically. Strive to have fun pushing the envelope without ripping it. ;-)

Nov.08 – Mercury Direct sextile Pluto (27:17 of Libra/Sagittarius) (Nov.09 in AU)

Nov.08 – Venus enters Libra (until Dec.05) (Nov.09 to Dec.06 in AU)

Venus glides like a graceful model through her own sign of Libra, giving you the opportunity to expand your interactive style, cultivate diplomacy, beautify your surroundings, schmooze with social connections, and discover a new fashion statement. Find something beautiful, balanced or harmonious to appreciate or do during this time. You might consider visiting an art gallery, or watch a romantic movie, or listen to music that moves you into a peaceful place inside. You might feel drawn to going shopping for beautiful clothes or items to decorate your home. It can also be a good time to negotiate agreements with people, in a way that is fair and is focused on a win-win solution. Do something to celebrate, express and discover your inner and/or outer beauty. Find new ways to balance your own interests with those of others, which generates good will and harmony.
