This Total Solar Eclipse may be seen starting at the northeast corner of Australia (notably Cairns, Queensland). It then moves east across the Pacific and terminates just shy of the Chilean coast. Northern parts of New Zealand will see a partial eclipse. Important! You must not look directly at a solar eclipse without proper eye protection, or you risk doing permanent damage to your eyes.

Transformation literally means going beyond your form.
~ Wayne Dyer

When it comes right down to it, transformation is one of those euphemisms for: "Life sucks, but suck it up."

It's not for the feint of heart, it's not for the timid, and it's going to be a lot harder if you refuse change.

Transformation is change from the inside out. It might be instigated or inspired by external events, but its effect penetrates far below the surface to the core of whatever or whoever is being transformed.

Not exactly your light fluffy fun.

We are living in volatile times. The extreme polarization that became acute during the recent US election demonstrated how close to the surface our feelings are. It shows how much we fear being hurled into a situation not of our choosing. The rising tensions throughout the world between various nations, cultures, religions and interests also illustrates, on a global level, how much today's collective energy is in a state of explosive flux.

A radical inner transformation and rise to a new level of consciousness might be the only real hope we have in the current global crisis brought on by the dominance of the Western mechanistic paradigm.
~ Stanislav Grof

Power—or the (perceived or actual) loss of it—is at the root of much of today's instability. When someone else holds the reins of control over issues and conditions that affect your life, human nature inevitably seeks to break out of it and become more freely independent. On the other hand, when you are the one who has power over others, this often leads to a determination to hold onto that control.

Power struggles tend to be based on the fear of a loss of independence, control, freedom or the benefits and perks that are enjoyed within a more powerful position. One's perceptions often become shaped or skewed in ways that (seem to) justify one's own agenda and priorities, while dismissing or protesting the needs and interests of those who would stand in your way.

Power—holding onto it, acquiring it, learning how to let go of it or finding new ways to embrace it—ultimately drives the process of transformation. When the balance of power is out of whack, it needs to be redistributed. The person who holds power at the expense of someone else, needs to let go so that the power balance can equalize the situation, thereby making it a more effective whole.

Solar Eclipse from space

Unfortunately, those with (more than their fair share of) power tend to be reluctant to give any of it up, and often see the equalization process as them becoming powerless. This is seen as an irony at best to those who have lived in a powerless (or less powerful) position that has allowed the more powerful to enjoy that extra power.

And yet, the redistribution of power, influence, control and authority is a fundamental part of what transformation is. This is true whether we're talking about how power is distributed throughout the world between countries, religions or the economy, or something more individual and subjective like personal growth and changing who we are, to become a better person. In the case of personal growth, certain qualities, attitudes, desires or motives become less prominent, while other underdeveloped or timid qualities and drives come forward and become stronger.

However, change and evolution continue. That balance usually continues to shift and adjust. The powerless may later become the more powerful, and vice versa. We've seen this throughout human history. On an individual level, weaker qualities might swing so far the other way that they become the problem that needs to be moderated.

For example, someone who has been afraid to express anger might become someone who is always angry, hostile or suspicious. This may be an effective way to "become friends" with their anger, but if they get stuck in over-anger it can be just as imbalanced as when they were stuck in passivity and over-compliance. The pendulum continues to swing until either one extreme becomes stuck again or the imbalanced energies are evened out.

We live in a pretty bleak time. I feel that in the air. Everything is uncertain. Everything feels like it's on the precipice of some major transformation, whether we like it or not.
~ Sean Lennon

This New Moon is in Scorpio, the sign of transformation. It is a sign known for its intensity, passion, piercing awareness and sometimes aggression. Its deceptively calm waters run surprisingly deep, with more undercurrents than are visible on the surface. Much of this curiously calm exterior is self-protective (not showing what's on the inside, lest it become vulnerable). However, it is also because Scorpio's focus is on what's happening under the surface, not on its outer appearance.

This New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse, which means the Moon crosses the disc of the Sun from Earth's perspective, temporarily interfering the light of the Sun. The Sun's radiance (our light that shines outward and our ability to see what's going on outside of us) is blocked.

Solar Eclipse

If you've never seen a solar eclipse, it can be a very eerie experience. The daylight dims, almost as if it was late in the day as the Sun approaches the descendant, except that it's different somehow.

Birds and animals get weirded out, unsure of how to interpret this environmental effect. It can feel like you've been plunged into a creepy experience that feels like the bottom just fell out from under your feet. All of your primal instincts are buzzing – partly on alert to unexpected danger, partly out of uncertainty in this unfamiliar place.

When a New Moon happens in Scorpio, we get a glimpse into the darkness within where raw human urges, desires, passions and drives gestate and become ready to emerge from this psychological womb. With a Solar Eclipse in Scorpio, we can be taken to an even deeper level than usual.

This can sometimes be a frightening experience – whatever is raw and primal tends to trigger our defence mechanisms. Our socialized and civilized sensibilities are often unsure how to integrate or understand these qualities. Seeing them as a threat, we may automatically try to reject or suppress them.

One of the closest aspects in the solar eclipse chart is Mercury retrograde square to Neptune (its second of three passes). In addition, Neptune is still virtually stationary, having officially changed direction from retrograde to direct just 2½ days before the New Moon. If we think it's hard to make out what's lurking in the Scorpio eclipse shadows, Mercury-Neptune could pump up our imagination to interpret them as our worst fears coming true.

In addition, the Moon becomes Void of Course for almost 13 hours, after it separates from its conjunction to the Sun, giving an uncontained, shape-shifting quality to emotions, feelings and intuition. There is the potential to experience this eclipse as a hair-raising dance across the proverbial abyss, or even a Dark Night of the Soul.

What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it.
~ Maya Angelou

Most of us, however, will experience this eclipse as a chance to delve into our depths. At its best it can put you in touch with passionate creativity or intuition. Even if the eclipse energy stirs up difficult or unpleasant feelings, memories or awareness, the intention is to show you what your next step is in your personal evolution.

It could provoke a need to do some deep soul searching, peering into the dark cave inside yourself to discover what's really down there. An overpowered and overly dramatic imagination might lead you to believe that what lies in your depths is something that makes you a bad person and must be suppressed.

However, the best remedy is a good solid reality check, along with some steely patience to stand your ground while you wait to find out what you're really up against. Saturn in Scorpio is quite happy to uncloak himself and make himself available to be your tour guide through the inner cave. Payment for his services is made in courage and willingness to see what is actually there, rather than just giving in to your worst imaginings (or even your best imaginings).

Although this process may well take place inside yourself (delving into your own depths), this could also apply to how you see and experience others. It could be that you are called upon to peer into someone else's depths and see what is really there, rather than assuming you already know. There is always something new to be learned about another person, even if you already know them. Strive for understanding and a transformation of how you relate to them that is fair and just to both of you.

Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one.
~ Marianne Williamson

The Sun-Moon conjunction is not strongly wired into the rest of the chart, having only aspects that are minor or very wide in orb. However some are significant. The New Moon is semisquare (45°) to Pluto and sesquiquadrate (135°) to Uranus, so it acts as a catalyst to bring out the Uranus-Pluto square energy. This is more likely to be an indirect, implied or secondary effect than a directly challenging one.

For example, you might need to make adjustments to deal with the implications of a situation you're in, rather than the immediate situation itself. Or you might need to gather the courage, resources or deeper understanding that will see you through a process of transformation you're approaching or already in.

Whatever the task before you, it is likely to have far reaching consequences and connotations. The traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars, is in Sagittarius in partile conjunction (same degree) with the Galactic Centre. It is also "out of bounds" meaning its position relative to our equator extends beyond the bounds of the Sun. In both cases, this brings in a transpersonal quality to your actions, motives and mode of self-expression.

Finally, Chiron is also stationary, officially changing from retrograde to direct just 22 hours after the peak of the eclipse. It is in tight trine to Saturn and exact sesquiquadrate to Venus. It's possible you could become aware of the unhealthy or imbalanced parts of yourself that need to be addressed and worked through in a different way. This can be especially true in social, relationship or financial situations, given its aspect to Venus. Saturn is just beginning its three-pass trine to Chiron, and lends some rugged fortitude that can help you approach any kind of healing process with a steady, paced approach.

Whatever comes up over the next couple of weeks shows some things you need to work on over the next 6 months. Don't beat yourself up if you feel like you've fallen flat on your face – use it as a learning experience that shows you what your next step is. Neither should you assume you have no growth to do if you sail through this eclipse as if on a magical carpet – perhaps your learning is about acknowledging what you have gained and understanding a new way to "trust the process."

Transformation is afoot. Don't take it lightly.

How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all peoples, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Nov.13-25 – Jupiter Unaspected and Chart Handle (12-13° Gemini)

During this time, Jupiter is virtually unaspected, with brief exceptions when the Moon forms a major aspect to it on Nov. 15, 19, 21, 23. Jupiter is also the handle of the chart from about November 10-23. In other words, it is both unaspected and the handle on Nov.10-14, Nov.16-18, Nov.20 and 22. After that, the chart distribution pattern changes from a Bucket (with the lone planet—Jupiter in this case—being the "handle" of the bucket) to a Locomotive (with all plants distributed around approximately 2/3 of the chart).

When Jupiter is the "handle" planet, there is more emphasis and significance placed on philosophy, beliefs, principles, morals, higher knowledge, foreign encounters, and feeling connected to something greater than yourself. How we embrace these qualities and concepts will affect the rest of our lives much more than usual. When the handle planet is happy, the rest of the chart can work together better; but when we're disconnected from or misusing the handle energy in some way, that discontent and struggle echoes back into the workings of the rest of the chart. The fact that Jupiter is also unaspected during much of this time also has implications. An unaspected planet tends to be a bit of a "loose cannon" – unpredictable, disconnected from the whole and difficult to work with.

So life under an unaspected Jupiter handle could be a bit of a strange, even wild ride. You might get flashes of insight or understanding, but not know how to integrate that into what you already know about the situation. Especially with Jupiter currently in Gemini, you might be in a situation where you are learning something new in an unexpected or disjoined way, having some difficulty keeping up with the changing landscape and horizon. However, it's also a time when you might get a flashing glimpse of the bigger picture, giving you a sudden sense of vision and possibilities. In most cases, you're probably not "there" yet, so knowing how to integrate that or what to do with it might be difficult, if not impossible. Take it as a preview of a possible destination, if you point yourself in that direction and do what you need to catch up in your understanding of that. If your vision shows you something negative or disturbing, this could be a warning that you need to think about how to change your course to avoid it.

Nov.13 – Mercury Retrograde square Neptune (00:21 of Sagittarius/Pisces)

Your mental focus may be a bit clouded, confused or lethargic right now, as your conscious mind struggles to grasp the formless, limitless expanse of the Universe and the unconscious. You may experience some disillusionment or disappointment, in your observations or communication with others. However, what is flowing under the surface of events right now is the need to dissolve away the crust of old expectations that blocks your view from seeing a greater Truth. If you're feeling off-balance, try to listen more than you talk, so that you can be receptive to your inner sensitivity. Left-brain analysis might be difficult to work with right now unless you balance it with a lot of right-brain intuition. You may have to let go of a rigid mindset, or give up what you think you understand about a situation in your life, in order to open yourself to a new perspective that is difficult to define but is ultimately in the best interest of your spiritual growth.

This is the second of 3 passes of this transit made during Mercury's current retrograde cycle. Since Mercury is retro grade this time, you might experience more confusing, disorientation, blurred mental focus and "magical thinking" than usual. This is a good time to keep part of your mind detached from the outcome or conclusion (since you may not be seeing things as clearly as you might). This is probably not the best time to be making important decisions, and hopefully by this time you'll have done your homework and gathered the information you need prior to this, back in more rational times.

Nov.14 – Mercury Retrograde enters Scorpio (until Dec.10)

Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, so you may find you are extra sensitive to the undercurrents around you, especially the energy in other people that pushes your buttons and might make you feel "on guard." Your attempts to voice your concerns and perceptions to others may or may not be well received. You might be picking up on something they're not aware of (and might prefer you weren't either). It may help to remember that it is ultimately possible to control only ourselves. You are therefore challenged to look into your own "shadow" – the part of yourself that lives in your internal blind spot. Take a long look at yourself, your motives and assumptions, which may reveal issues in need of some intense self-honesty. You might feel a bit wary or suspicious of people and situations outside of yourself. However, even though the objective situation may be real and valid, there is probably also something about your experience of it that originates within yourself. It will help to shine a light into your unconscious to learn how you are playing a role in the situation. This can transform mental defensiveness into true empowerment by shifting your perception of events, allowing you to choose a different response and therefore a different outcome, especially after Mercury goes direct.

Nov.14 – Chiron stationary Direct (04:58 of Pisces)  (Nov.15 in AU)   ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a bit like you're caught between worlds—the spiritual versus the physical, the mental versus the emotional, or the outer objective world versus your inner subjective experience. Chiron has been retrograde for the last 4½ months, giving us time to assess the places in our lives that need healing and to discover the ways that we might be wounding ourselves or others. This includes physical health issues, emotional vulnerability and mental perspectives that create more problems than they solve. As Chiron turns direct, everything we have learned over the last five months becomes ready to be applied over the coming three months (while Chiron is still in the Shadow). Right now, you might find you reach a decision or turning point about issues you have wrestled with since May concerning goals, career, expectations or authority. If these issues have been stressful, this might come out now in the form of health problems, so it's a good idea to be gentle yet disciplined with yourself in this area. It could be a time of ambiguity, feeling like you're caught in a whirlpool that mixes up possibilities with limitations. Or, you might experience some clarity, as the paradoxical coexistence of realities and potentials on the path before you come into clearer focus. Either way, it is a time that can be magical because of its ability to bridge the gap between what is and what might be.

Nov.16 – Saturn Trine Chiron (04:58 of Scorpio/Pisces)

With all things Saturn, slow and steady wins the race. Therefore, healing and recovery efforts are likely to benefit from a stable, paced, structured approach. For example, if you have the flu you might find you get better faster if you take a day or so to rest and focus on getting your health back. If that's simply not an option, then do other health promoting things regularly and steadily (e.g. taking whatever remedies, vitamins, etc, work for you). In other words, a sporadic or half-hearted approach are likely to be a waste of energy, since they won't be enough to combat what you're fighting. This can be applied metaphorically as well: if you're feeling out of balance or "unhealthy" or conflicted in your psyche or your life circumstances, a regimen of actions designed to bring yourself back to your stable centre again will likely be your more effective approach.

By the same token, when you're feeling grounded and centred, you are more likely to view life through a healing and healthy perspective. It could be easier now to take responsibility for your own healing, rather than just seeing someone else as the cause of the problems in your life. This transit can also help fortify you when taking a serious look at your suffering and dis-ease, making it easier to face your woundedness (or that of others) in a realistic way, instead of hoping it will go away on its own if you ignore it.

Nov.16 – Mars enters Capricorn (until Dec.25)  (Nov.17 in UK, AU)

Mars works very well in Capricorn – in fact, Mars can be quite the little workhorse! Action that pursues your ambitions, goals, projects or objectives can make serious progress under this transit. It may be easier to pace yourself and be disciplined in how you use your energy and effort now. Taking a serious, responsible attitude in your actions is likely to produce positive results, even more-so than usual. On the other hand, if you have difficulty with these qualities, and tend to rebel or fight to preserve your freedom, you might feel more like you're being strapped into a yoke and harness and ordered to plough the fields. However, the amount of serious, authentic work you're willing to put your energy into will likely pay off in kind. It can be a good time to show leadership or to make independent decisions that lead by example. Taking risks will make more sense if you prepare your strategy and map out your plan of action.

Nov.17 – Mercury conjunct North Lunar Node (26:03 of Scorpio)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")  Read my articles about Retrograde Cycles.  Read my article about Mercury Retrograde.)

When Mercury Retrograde conjoins the North Node, it is a good time to rethink where you're going and/or how you're trying to get to your destination. This is a time to go back to re-examine your "learning curve" in life and whether your approach to your personal growth is working well for you. You might find yourself rethinking past decisions about how or where to move ahead in your life. It could also be a time when you are able to identify what is obstructing your progress or needlessly complicating your journey, giving you a chance to purge or change whatever is getting in your way. This could be a time to listen and pay attention, more than to express yourself. Communication can be more effective if you're bringing out ideas, observations and feedback that you normally keep to yourself—but be careful not to overdo the emotional charge of what you say. If this has been bottled up inside you for some time, watch that it doesn't spurt out in a way that creates consequences you would rather avoid.

Nov.17 – Mars sextile Neptune (00:22 of Capricorn/Pisces)  (Nov.18 in AU)

There is potential for inspired action now. You could achieve a softening or soothing of the blunt force of anger, frustration, confrontation and conflict, without this resulting in powerlessness or passivity. It may be easier to move forward with your plans and intentions based on the power of faith or ideals. It's important to not get lost in those ideals to the point where you lose sight of what's realistic, but this is a time when you may be more inclined to take a leap of faith and say "Oh what the heck!" Your emotional impact on others (or their impact on you) could be greater than is intended or expected, so use this expanded energy wisely.

Nov.17 – Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (25:42 of Scorpio)  (Nov.18 in AU)

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface.

Nov.17 – Sun conjunct North Lunar Node (26:03 of Scorpio)  (Nov.18 in UK, AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

For a few days before and after this date, your sense of self and purpose are in sharper focus. You might encounter people who understand you more than usual, or you could find the courage to shine a little brighter than you normally do. However, this also brings a challenge to find and fulfil your potential within a broader context of life, friends, associates, groups and the world. It is a good time to look at your vision of the future—on a personal level but especially the wider vision you have for the world around you. What is your greatest potential over the coming year? Ten years? The New and Full Moons just before and after this transit are usually Eclipses. Check to see if those Eclipses form major aspects to your natal chart, since these will show a future direction for you over the coming months. The Sun-Node transit happening right now will help to focus those changes.

Nov.21 – Sun enters Sagittarius (until Dec.21)  (Nov.22 in AU)

Happy Solar Return to all Sagittarians! While the Sun is in Sagittarius, we all get to explore our horizons, seek our highest truth, discover our spirituality and gain fresh wisdom. Sagittarius energy encourages us to reach beyond our grasp, to exceed our limitations, and to rise above our primal impulses. Whether we are encountering other cultures, countries and languages, or expanding our horizons through new knowledge or spiritual awareness, this is a time to be uplifted and inspired. We are challenged to explore meaning in our lives and to connect with whatever we regard as sacred and sublime. In Sagittarius we also gather new knowledge and understanding, making sense of the patterns and themes within the raw information around us. It is not enough to simply have facts and data. Sagittarius presents us with the opportunity to reach for the highest truth we know, and then to exercise that truth in moral and ethical ways. The trap we must be careful to avoid is that it's easy to assume that our truth is truth for everyone else too, which is not necessarily the case. Our well-meaning wish for others to experience the inspiration and passion that we feel can seem to turn us into self-righteousness know-it-alls. It's tempting to believe that we are privy to knowledge that others are denied. There can be a fine line between sharing passionate knowledge versus shoving opinions down someone's throat. Everyone has their unique perspective on life, and therefore their own sense of meaning and truth that works for them. And yet, debating and challenging each other's knowledge, beliefs and values are also an important part of the Sagittarius passion for exploration. As the Sun journeys through Sagittarius, expand your awareness of how these issues play out in your life.

Nov.21 – Venus enters Scorpio (until Dec.15)  (Nov.22 in UK, AU)

Venus is the planet of relationships, interaction, beauty, pleasure and material resources. She struts through Scorpio with attitude! As a result, we may experience sensuality, sexuality and intimacy in a more intense, in-your-face kind of way. You might feel the need to establish a better balance of power with others that is pleasant and even-handed on the surface but also deals with the more gritty or intense energy that tends to lurk under the surface. It may be easier to attract what (or who) you want now, by focusing your intent and interest on the object of your affection and desire. However, there can also be a danger of becoming manipulative, controlling or devious to get what you want. Strive to become centred in your deepest heart's desire through steadfast self-honesty. Aim to avoid becoming obsessed with power, wealth or lust so that you lose sight of your true light inside. This is a good transit to take joy in your instinctive nature.

Nov.22 – Sun square Neptune (00:23 of Sagittarius/Pisces)

Your ideals, hopes and wishful thinking may loom a little too large during this time, making you prone to disappointment and disillusionment. You might want a fantasy or dream to come true so much that you disconnect from the reality that seems to be in the way – only to find that the obstacle was serving a positive purpose after all. Your imagination may be very active now, but not easy to control or balance with reality. However, it can be a very creative time if you're able to harness that imagination for productive use. Unconscious urges and longings may be especially close to the surface, so you have an opportunity to learn more about the hidden forces that drive you (and perhaps distort your view of the world around you). Spiritually, you might discover that your yearning for enlightenment is not the straightforward path you had hoped for, but it can be just as valuable (although disappointing) to discover what is *not* your best path. Emotionally you may feel a bit overwhelmed, discouraged or confused. On the plus side, you have an opportunity to observe a deeper part of you, which is usually camouflaged against the distracting background of day-to-day life. There is tremendous creative, spiritual and healing potential to be found by listening to and working with the inner voices from those depths.

Nov.22 – Venus trine Neptune (00:23 of Scorpio/Pisces)

This can be a time of romance, creativity, and a sense of oneness with the natural beauty of all that exists in the world. On a social or intimate level, things may run smoothly – even a bit magically! So be sure you are clear about what you really want. In terms of finances and material worth, this can be a time of blessings and abundance that could seem to appear out of nowhere. But be careful – it can also be a time of overspending and wondering where the money went! Your natural beauty and warmth shines through now, so it is a good time to peek out from behind any façade of glamour or illusion you might be cloaked in. You are likely to see the very best in others (and they in you), so that negotiation, interaction and attraction can seem to flow effortlessly. This magical attraction energy could also open you up to seeing wonderful qualities in others that may or may not actually be there, so do a reality check with a trusted friend before you make any important choices.

Nov.23 – Mars square Uranus (04:47 of Capricorn/Aries)

Erratic action and unpredictable impulses can surface under this transit. Active energy is more available now, but it can be very hard to control its direction, speed, intensity or predictability. Under this volatile atmosphere, unconscious or suppressed emotions (like anger, frustration, fear or desire) can jump out when you least expect them. Being accident prone is not uncommon. This can be great if you're trying to release inhibitions, find courage to sprint forward or break out of an old habit. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that your actions won't turn out to be destructive, counter-productive or too much of a good thing. You might be tempted to take greater risks than is wise, but this risk-taking impulse can also break you out of a rut too. It's important to use your best judgment when faced with this kind of potent yet volatile energy.

This transit is likely to bring into sharp focus the Uranus-Pluto square energy. Watch for short tempers, stirred up anger or rage, and the impulse to take action based on emotional reasoning.

Nov.23 – Mars sextile Chiron (05:01 of Capricorn/Pisces)  (Nov.24 in AU)

This transit gives you the opportunity to take action that can bring some healing resolution to some ongoing problems you've been having. For example, if you've been suffering from weakened energy or chronic health problems, this transit could bring a bit of relief, especially if you're willing to invest some effort to move yourself forward. Or you might find that you have extra self-confidence to deal with a dilemma that has not wanted to go away. You might also find yourself in a position where you can help others find some relief or empowerment related to their suffering and chronic struggles. Problem solving of all kinds can benefit by taking an attitude of proactively doing what you can do, and then let go of what you can't.

Nov.24 – Mars sextile Saturn (05:57 of Capricorn/Scorpio)  (Nov.25 in AU)

There is an opportunity to harness the energy of willpower using practical discipline. Your physical and mental energy are likely to be stable and enduring, or else they can become this way more easily than usual by applying a sustained focus of effort. This is a great transit if you need to be productive or to make progress in a goal that you are working toward. The thing to watch out for is a tendency to be over-cautious to the point where you get stuck in the planning stage and don't get much done. Or, you might try to rush into the production phase before your plans are fully formed. This transit works best when these areas are brought into balance.

Nov.25 – Venus trine Chiron (05:02 of Scorpio/Pisces)  (Nov.26 in UK, AU)

Healing and rebalancing are possible now, especially in the areas of relationships, finance, resources and values. Any problems that have persisted in these areas lately could benefit from an influx of helpful and healing resources now. Relationships and interactions of all kinds can benefit now, since it can be easier to see the beauty and value in others whom you might usually dislike or feel ill at ease with (or they with you). Negotiations and strategic efforts to resolve conflicts may go smoothly now, especially when you balance the results in everyone's interests. You may also be able to attract what you need to heal your wounds (physical, psychological, spiritual, etc.). Like it says in the "Serenity Prayer," you may now find it a bit easier to accept that which you cannot change, while finding you make progress with the things you can.

Nov.26 – Mercury stationary Direct (18:10 of Scorpio)  (Nov.27 in AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Mercury Retrograde.  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after today, you may experience mental intensity, confusion, and miscommunications or simply changes in your outlook. After being Retrograde for the last 3 to 3½ weeks, Mercury is now taking a slow turn to resume Direct motion. This period has challenged you to rethink and rehash things that required some fine-tuning or revision. The Direct station can be a time when clearer decisions start to emerge from the issues and struggles you've encountered during the retrograde period. Or, it might turn your perspective around so that you're seeing your situation fresh again.

Over the next couple of weeks, while Mercury is still in the Shadow, your brain may feel a bit like it's gradually waking up after a deep sleep. During this time, you can gradually put into practice the learning and knowledge you've gained from your retrograde "dreams" and moonlight visions. It will take time to get fully back into sync with the Mercury direct energy. So, take it slow, one step at a time, and untangle yourself one strand at a time.

Nov.26 – Sun trine Uranus (04:44 of Sagittarius/Aries)  (Nov.27 in AU)

You are more open than usual to spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and fun are let loose during this transit, as is your ability to break out of old outworn habits. You may get a flash of insight, a burst of courage or a surge of inspiration under this transit. The spirit of who you are can become released now, possibly leading to you behaving a bit "out of character." It's a great time to try new things and experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual routine...so much so, that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. If your self-confidence, self-expression or self-esteem have been stifled or dampened lately, these could come flying out rather erratically, carelessly or chaotically. Strive to have fun pushing the envelope without ripping it. ;-)

Nov.26 – Sun square Chiron (05:03 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Nov.27 in AU)

Your self-confidence and patience may be a bit strained right now, stretched by the urge to break free of chronic constraints. Motivation and self-esteem may seem to sag and suffer from old problems that you thought were resolved. This is probably because you are seeing "the flaws in the system" that are preventing you from getting the results you want. It will help to take a fresh approach to your situation. You may need to let go of what you think the results "should be" or how they should come to you. Be open to getting what you want in a different form than you were expecting. You may have to work extra hard for results now, especially if it means having to find a different route to success. If it seems like a door of opportunity has closed, look for an unexpected advantage or hidden alternative. This could allow you to tap into other opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Nov.26 – Venus conjunct Saturn (06:11 of Scorpio)  (Nov.27 in UK, AU)

The serious structure and responsibility of Saturn combines with the desire for pleasure, beauty and material abundance in Venus. This can be a good time to make concrete plans about financial matters (e.g., investments, budgeting, purchases, etc.), although this will work best if you do some serious research first, rather than simply going for whatever seems to "feel good." This is a time to begin a process of commitment, whether that involves developing your resources to achieve a certain goal, or negotiating the terms of a relationship or partnership. However, in order to clear the way for new commitments to flourish down the road, sometimes old commitments must be brought to a close first. So this may also be a time when previous involvements or plans may come to an end, especially if they no longer fulfil your needs or lack enough potential to reach your desired goals. In a similar way, you might find yourself blocked from being able to move forward in the areas of relationships, finances or pleasures. These areas may require some reworking or reconsideration before you're ready to proceed.

Nov.27 – Mars conjunct Pluto (08:09 of Capricorn)  (Nov.28 in AU)

This transit is a volatile and powerful combination of energies, with enormous potential for both creative healing and destructive damage. At its best, this transit can spark a creative force for transformative change that rises from a deep, underlying truth and unconditional acceptance of ourselves, warts and all. At its worst, this energy can be cruel, violent or relentlessly obsessive, aiming to impose power and control over others. How you experience this will largely depend on how you deal with your wants and desires. Are you so attached to the outcome that you are focused only on the external effects and results? Or can you also focus on strengthening your empowerment from within, so that desired change begins with yourself? The urge to express sexual, passionate and intimate feelings may also run high now. Have fun with it, but remember to use good judgment too. Your powers of persuasion can be ardent and strong now...but since this transit applies to everyone, so can other people's. This could lead to zealous competition (think "Battle of the Titans") or to a powerful blend of passionate creativity (think "alchemical transformation"). Which will you choose?

This transit is likely to bring into sharp focus the Uranus-Pluto square energy. Watch for short tempers, stirred up anger or rage, and the impulse to take action based on emotional reasoning.

"What's a Lunar Eclipse?"

"What's a Full Moon?"

Read more about the Sun-Moon cycles.

Read more about how you experience GEMINI energy in your life.

Mercury is finally out of retrograde, and you're just starting to think of all the things you've been putting off that you can finally move ahead with.

And then what happens? Along comes a Lunar Eclipse in Mercury's sign of Gemini! Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the computer...

This Full Moon (and Lunar Eclipse) is likely to bring on some p-r-e-t-t-y wonky energy. Wonkiness has appeared in my own life in the form of health problems. (Is it just me or are the flues and colds worse this year??) So, unfortunately this will have to be brief.

So: wonkiness. Let's start with the fact that Mercury, Gemini's planetary ruler, just came out of retrograde hiding barely 2 days ago, and is still slow enough to call virtually stationary. That will intensify the Gemini "trickster" energy, making communication, information, decisions and perceptions remain in flux for a while longer.

Mercury trickster energy always plays out throughout the post-retrograde shadow, which in this case will last until Dec.14. However, the Lunar Eclipse is likely to add new fuel to this fire, perhaps spinning it in a new direction or simply making it last longer.

Mercury is also virtually unaspected in the Lunar Eclipse chart, which is only likely to make the trickster energy spin even faster and more unpredictably. The closest it has to a major aspect is a sesquiquadrate to Uranus, although I'm not sure that helps! It wouldn't exactly help to stabilize things much. It's more likely to make all things Mercurial more reactive, impulsive and inconsistent.

Then there's the Sun-Moon opposition itself—which, of course, is what a Full Moon is. And a Lunar Eclipse is a very precise and especially annoying Full Moon—pardon me; especially full of potential, I meant to say. Mercury put those other words in my mouth.

So Jupiter is conjunct the Moon and opposite the Sagittarian Sun. More amplification, more wonkiness, more information to process, more ideas to articulate and more observations to be curious about—any of which might lead you completely down the wrong path to a "say what??" conclusion. (See "trickster" above.)

Yod Kite at the Lunar Eclipse in Gemini

The Sun-Moon opposition is also the spine of a Yod Kite aspect pattern (a.k.a. Boomerang or Focused Yod). This Yod is pointed directly at the Moon, while Jupiter has a big belly laugh from the safe distance of 5° away.

The Moon is quincunx to a Venus-Saturn conjunction on one side—oh, did I mention there's a Venus-Saturn conjunction? Well, there is—and a Mars-Pluto conjunction on the other side—oh, I guess I forgot to mention the Mars-Pluto exact conjunction too, huh? It's Mercury's fault.

So therefore, there's a very tight Venus-Saturn sextile to Mars-Pluto. The Sun is semi-sextile to both pairs of planets, forming what the Hubers called a Little Eye. Like a satellite dish, this aspect pattern creates ultrasensitive awareness of your surroundings. Since the apex is the Sun in Sagittarius, you might find there are experiences and events around you that lead you to question or rethink your sense of self, your aspirations, your self-image or your beliefs.

It all comes together as a Yod Kite (essentially, a Yod with an opposition). We could stand here all week just yakking about all the meanings and implications of this, and I'm sure the Gemini eclipsed Moon would be more than happy to do just that.

Let's just boil this one down to: be careful what you ask for! Be careful what conclusions you draw from seemingly compatible ideas. Be cautious about the words you use, voice inflection, body language, etc, because it could be easily misinterpreted or misunderstood.

On the plus side, this outside-the-box energy could also be fabulous for creative work or just pondering the surprising implications of ideas. Don't be surprised if you suddenly see a whole new side to whatever you're thinking about or looking at. Wonky doesn't have to be bad—it only has to be given a section of your life or your mind in which to play, so that it doesn't create total chaos everywhere in your life.

Yod aspect pattern - Uranus and Moon to Saturn and Venus

There's also another Yod pointing at Saturn (and, widely, Venus), from a sextile between Uranus and the Moon. The Venus-Saturn in Scorpio can bring intense encounters with others, where there may be deep truths to be faced, about them or about yourself in relation to them.

No fluff and feathers in this conjunction—just facts and truth and what is real. Interactions work best when you are grounded in what is real and true for you. Passions work best when anchored to awareness of what could happen after the passion subsides.

The Yod pointing to Saturn-Venus comes from Moon sextile Uranus. This feels like you can throw caution to the wind, respond spontaneously and embrace the playful, lighter side of life. And this is true, but the Venus-Saturn quincunxes also remind you that there will be consequences to your actions and attitudes, which should be kept in mind, lest they sneak up and bite you when you're not looking. That doesn't mean you should be caustic or cynical or austere, but it does mean that whimsy and taking things on faith should be well balanced with a healthy dose of groundedness and responsibility.

The Mars-Pluto conjunction is square to Uranus, bringing in a very deep intensity that can't simply be hidden in a cave inside your subconscious. This intensity is underscored by having Mercury, Venus, Saturn and the North Node all in Scorpio—and, of course, the Lunar Eclipse itself.

What is intensity? It's highly concentrated energy and experience, grabbing you by the delicate parts of your anatomy so that it has your full attention! It stirs your passions, fires up your survival mechanisms and wakes you up with adrenaline. These qualities were mobilized at the Solar Eclipse in Scorpio back on Nov.13.

Now the Lunar Eclipse in Gemini dares you to put these into words. You are urged to express what you're feeling, and encouraged to expand your understanding of how it all works. The Moon in Gemini conjunct Jupiter challenges you to explore how you can channel this into your highest integrity.

If there's something in your way (reluctance or a cynical attitude or giving in to vengeance or blame), this will be a chance to and explore what that is and how you can transform it through awareness into something that feeds your most authentic self.

Nov.28 – Venus sextile Pluto (08:11 of Scorpio/Capricorn)  (Nov.29 in AU)

Close one-on-one relationships with people (close friends, lovers, partners of all kinds) could possibly benefit by being taken to a deeper level now, through creatively combining balanced harmony with deep connection. Just be careful that intimacy and bonding don't go over the top into obsession or domination. There is a brief opportunity now to become more authentic in how you relate to those close to you and how you establish a balance of power with them. The trick is to do this without trying to suppress, control or overpower the other person's interests. Financially, it is a time when you may have an opportunity to profit in your dealings with banks, insurance companies, taxes, and other institutions that deal with collective money.

Nov.29 – Venus sextile Mars (09:45 of Scorpio/Capricorn)  (Nov.30 in AU)

It is possible now to take a balanced approach to conflict, problems and projects that require effort. This can combine both a gentle touch and firm action; sensitivity and forcefulness. Negotiation and interaction with others could be aggressive and determined now, but also balanced with sensitivity and style. Any expressions of anger, frustration or discontent are more likely to be tempered with fairness, moderation and composure. You'll have to apply some effort to get these opposite energies working in sync together, but the potential and opportunity are there more-so than usual now.

Dec.02 – Sun opposite Jupiter (11:17 of Sagittarius/Gemini)  (Dec.03 in UK, AU)

Your confidence and ambitions may become amplified, possibly to the point of becoming a problem under this transit. It may be difficult to judge how much is too much versus just enough, and it could just be easier want more and more..."just in case." You may feel the urge to travel or do something that could expand your horizons (literally or figuratively). However, satisfaction may seem just out of reach under this transit, so there is a risk of pushing too hard and lacking perspective or good judgment. You could find that tolerance, compassion and understanding are hard to find, either in you toward others or in others toward you (or both). You are seeing things through a mental magnifying lens, which may be distorting your perceptions or reactions. On the other hand, this can be a good time to take an honest look at how closely you are living by your integrity and values. Feedback might come from others who could be seeing something more clearly than you can see it in yourself. Or, you might find that a minor irritation about someone or something outside of yourself suddenly becomes a major problem. This is probably because you're seeing it more clearly (although not necessarily more accurately). The lesson of this transit is that everything gets amplified together – the positive and the negative, and at a certain point the difference between them may become meaningless. Reaching a balanced understanding of all that lies within that expanded view is the key to gaining wisdom from the experience.

Dec.07 – Mercury conjunct North Lunar Node (25:54 of Scorpio)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")  (Dec.08 in AU)

Ideas are in focus, especially when they're shared with others. It could be a time when you observe or notice something new, giving you a new perspective that you will mull over for the coming several months. Or you might be called upon to give a talk or presentation that shares information with others. It might be an especially active time with emails, Facebook, Twitter or texting. Communication and collection of thoughts and ideas is the central theme here. Keep your eyes, mind and curiosity open – the world could be showing you something important and fascinating!

Dec.10 – Mercury enters Sagittarius (until Dec.31)  (Dec.11 in UK, AU)

Communication, ideas, thoughts and perceptual "spark" become expanded in Sagittarius. Your mental focus tends toward a philosophical and spiritual outlook that seeks the highest truth in the broadest context. However, it's not always easy for the conscious mind to assimilate and digest such a vast territory of knowledge, or to find the higher meaning in mountains of raw information. You might feel a bit overwhelmed by trying to take in such a panoramic view of your world, but the gifts from doing so are abundant and inspiring! To get the most out of this transit, try learning something new that expands your horizon. Or pick a situation in your life and imagine that you're looking at it from a mountaintop – what do you see from way up there that you can't see when you're closer to the ground? Just remember that whatever visions and insights you get from doing this, these are SOME of the truths to be found, but not necessarily the only truth. Leave room in your new understanding to remember that every mountaintop shows a slightly different view and that this doesn't make one mountain right and the others wrong.

This is the last of 3 passes of this transit during this Mercury Retrograde cycle (Oct.25, Nov.17, Dec.07). The important thing about this pass is that Venus has joined them both in a triple conjunction. Even though Mercury and Venus don't become exact, the Node amplifies, bridges and focuses their combined energies. Expressing your ideas in a way that is congenial, caring or diplomatic has the potential to get your foot into even the most impenetrable door. This is especially true if it involves speaking or confronting the truth with a combination of courage and finesse, cleverness and kindness.

Dec.11 – Mercury square Neptune (00:37 of Sagittarius/Pisces)

This is the last pass of this transit (Oct.29, Nov.13, Dec.11). This transit has urged you to challenge what you thought was correct and true, to explore intuitive impressions, and to discover whether the words coming out of your mouth (or someone else's mouth) might be deceptive, deluded or perhaps inspired.

Dec.12 – Venus conjunct North Lunar Node (25:57 of Scorpio)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")  (Dec.13 in AU)

Your love, beauty and joy are especially visible to others right now. You are likely to be at your most attractive – both in body and personality. You could become a magnet for what you desire today – just be careful what you ask for, since you might get it! What you attract to you might be material abundance, admiration and appreciation from others, or perhaps a sense of well-being that brings you into a more beautiful balance with those around you. This can also be a time when you begin a new relationship or social contact, or perhaps you begin a journey to make yourself or your world more beautiful, loving and kind. At worst, or if other stressful transits are also in effect, you might also have a tendency to fall into over-indulgence, empty glamour or compulsive craving.
