"What's a New Moon?"

Read more about the Sun-Moon cycles.

Read more about how you experience LIBRA energy in your life.

This is going to have to be short and sweet, since Saturn has seen fit to grace me with health woes and NO energy. No worries, I'm okay; I just can't manage to do my usual 26 chapters on the New Moon. ;-) So let's do the whirlwind tour around the chart this time.

This New Moon is in Libra, the sign of balance and harmony. However, the chart is anything but balanced!

Let me qualify that. It's not that the chart lacks balance; it's that it's asymmetrical. That means balance must be found in unusual, innovative, even sophisticated ways.

Thankfully, there's a lovely and close trine aspect (120°) between Jupiter and Uranus, which helps the adventurous originality flow.

Since Libra is also the sign of relationships and interaction, you might find you can gain valuable balance by seeking out others who can illuminate the skies with what life looks like "outside the stratosphere" (never mind the box).

Venus, planetary ruler of Libra, is somewhat unhappily placed in Virgo, the sign of her fall, meaning she's operating at a disadvantage. This lovely, easy-going, easy-flowing energy must pour herself through the fine sieve of Virgo's detailed perfectionism and practical focus.

Since she is also the ruler of Earthy Taurus, Venus understands the need for practicality, but with so much Libra energy abounding, it's her harmonious side that wants to come out and play, which isn't entirely on Virgo's agenda.

That suggests your ability to find peace and harmony may require a lot of fine-tuning and persnickety fiddling in order to get the balance just right.

Fortunately, Venus and Mercury are in mutual reception, meaning they're both in a sign that the other rules. Mercury rules Virgo, where Venus resides, and Mercury is in Libra, Venus' sign. This is likely to fortify Venus' predicament of having to behave against her ingrained easy-going nature. In addition, it will support Mercury in his search for "just the right words" to woo and persuade others to his way of thinking.

Venus is opposite Chiron (180°) suggesting that all that effort might bring out some old weariness or discouragement that life can't be more straightforward and convenient. However, this aspect was exact way back on Sep.17, so this could be more like, "Ya, I kinda figured this would happen. Oh well, suck it up..."

Thankfully, Venus has a friend in Saturn, being in creative, cooperative sextile aspect (60°). However, this too is past its prime, having been exact on Sep.21. So, rather than bringing in new possibilities and resources, it may be that you have these to draw on from events that happened about a week ago. This is a good thing, since Venus could use a break in not having to work tooth and nail for every advantage and success she gets.

There are no symmetrical aspect patterns, like T-squares, Grand Trines or Yods. Although not symmetrical, there is a harmonious Wedge pattern. Saturn is sextile (60°) to Venus and trine (120°) to Chiron, with Venus and Chiron in opposition (180°), but the aspects are mostly wide and separating, so it's not exactly a major influence. But hey, we'll take what we can get, right?

Nevertheless, this makes for a dynamic yet somewhat erratic energy – not exactly your easy flowing balancing act. This energy may be an acquired taste requiring that you find a sense of connection with others through unexpected or unusual encounters.

The result of it all is that relationships and interactions in general might need some extra patience and willingness to hang in there with the process, even if it gets a bit uncomfortable. The good news is that there's a fabulous Grand Trine about to form with Mars, Jupiter and Uranus. This should help to find some balance and an easier way to work with this somewhat wonky New Moon energy.

Life is about to get a lot more "interesting" though. The Full Moon to this New Moon is a Lunar Eclipse. Yes, it's eclipse season again! Oh joy, oh bliss. And even more exciting, it's at 0° Scorpio, so we will go from a somewhat inconsistent Libra harmony and balance to some very intense Scorpio concentration on transformation that challenges you to reach further than usual into yourself.

Mars, although contributing some zippy adventure through the Grand Trine, is also going Out of Bounds for a couple of months (think "loose cannon" – more about this below). And he will be at the peak of this when that Lunar Eclipse happens.

So now is the time to stretch your imagination to find fresh ways to find a sense of balance in your life. Although you'll need some serious practical solutions, this is also best treated as an adventure. Who knows, you might even discover a connection with someone who will give your life a spin in a whole new direction.

Real beauty isn't about symmetry or weight or makeup; it's about looking life right in the face and seeing all its magnificence reflected in your own.

Sep.25 – Jupiter trine Uranus (14:37 of Leo/Aries)  (Sep.27 in AU)

Insight, ideas and inspiration characterise this transit. It is an excellent time to break free of old outmoded beliefs and judgments, which can make room for new perspectives, opinions and wisdom. Innovative ideas come together within an expanded context that gives them new meaning. You can breathe fresh air into your spiritual beliefs and opinions by taking an open-minded approach and trying on new ideas. Unexpected, unusual or "lucky" opportunities may arise that allow you to get out of old ruts and advance toward future possibilities. If you have been feeling stuck in your quest to gain truth, understanding, spirituality or meaning, this transit could bring a release that allows you to get past your resistance. However, even "good" aspects have their drawbacks and this is no exception. It can be tempting to sit back and allow the opportunities to come to you, but not follow through on them—being all ideas and no sustained action. Your behaviour could be somewhat erratic and unpredictable, as your direction may shift and change with every new possibility that presents itself. This transit's greater agenda is to open the door for you to stretch beyond your known horizons and touch the edge of the Universal Mind.

Sep.26-Oct.14 – Grand Trine (Kite) in Fire (Mars, Jupiter, Uranus)  ("What's a Grand Trine?")

We have a very lively combination of planets coming together in a Grand Trine of Fire signs. At its best: hang onto your hat, we're in for a wild ride! At its worst: hang onto your hat, we're in for a wild ride! Somewhere in between is where you'll probably experience it. And since easy-going trine energy can often be taken for granted and not put to much use in a proactive way, you might only notice that things flow a bit more easily than usual (for better or worse).

At best, this could see motivation, courage and action (Mars) combined with wisdom, morality and growth (Jupiter), serving a higher purpose that seeks to break free of outmoded constraints (Uranus). If you're looking for some wind beneath your wings that will help your plans get off the ground a little smoother and add some extra brilliance to light up the skies with your intentions, this Grand Trine could provide it. If you're looking for some extra illumination to see your way through a difficult time, to steer around a challenging obstacle, or to move yourself closer to a shining vision, it might to focus proactively on these things.

Grand Trine in Fire signs

Unfortunately, at worst, these energies could add fuel to over-reactive or destructive fires as well. That's the thing with trine aspects (120°) – they open the gates to let anything through more easily, but sometimes that includes things that are better left restrained. In this case, we might see reckless risk-taking in the name of rebellion and freedom. Off-the-scale judgment, blame, condemnation or contempt that is emotionally driven by fear, dogmatism or self-righteous hubris. Or expressions of anger that ignite into a firestorm of rage, anxiety or even depression; in this case, much depends on how you deal with anger.

The key to using this energy in its best way is keep moving but stay grounded. What does it mean to be grounded? It means being practical, realistic and reasonable – all those good Saturn qualities (yes, Saturn can be your friend). It means keeping the Fire contained enough that it doesn't burn down your life. And it means not losing yourself so much in the experience that you wander far off the grid of your wisdom and better judgment, doing things you'll later regret.

The Grand Trine is closest from Oct.05-09, as Mars makes the exact trine aspects to Jupiter and Uranus. The time when you might find you're tapping into this energy most directly is after Oct.03, as the Sun turns it into a Grand Trine Kite configuration. In fact, the Lunar Eclipse coming up on Oct.08 will feature this Kite prominently, with the opposition axis of the Sun, Moon, Uranus and Nodes forming the spine of the Kite. This can act like a lightning rod to the Grand Fire Trine that awakens, ignites and illuminates the potential and issues contained within it.

Sep.27 – Mercury enters Scorpio (until Oct.10)  (Sep.28 in AU)

Cunning communication and insight are at their peak, as Mercury skulks through Scorpio. It’s a time for unearthing secrets and delving deeply into the psychological Shadow (Carl Jung’s term for the unconscious parts of ourselves that we don't want to or know how to face). There is opportunity for healing and grounding now, but you may have to resist the temptation to manipulate others to control that process. Your awareness of the undercurrents around you could be increased...or you might stir up those undercurrents in others without intending to, by blurting things out in a blunt or harsh way. This transit presents an opportunity to learn new ways to wield words with the skill of a surgeon – to heal and remove what is toxic, not to wound or retaliate. Use it wisely. If you are not crystal clear with yourself about your motives and feelings when communicating with others, your unconscious or hidden agendas could seep through and cause hurt when that was not your intention.

Sep.29 – Venus enters Libra (until Oct.23)  (Sep.30 in AU)

Venus glides like a graceful model through her own sign of Libra, giving you the opportunity to expand your interactive style, cultivate diplomacy, beautify your surroundings, schmooze with social connections, and discover a new fashion statement. Find something beautiful, balanced or harmonious to appreciate or do during this time. You might consider visiting an art gallery, or watch a romantic movie, or listen to music that moves you into a peaceful place inside. You might feel drawn to going shopping for beautiful clothes or items to decorate your home. It can also be a good time to negotiate agreements with people, in a way that is fair and is focused on a win-win solution. Do something to celebrate, express and discover your inner and/or outer beauty. Find new ways to balance your own interests with those of others, which generates good will and harmony.

Sep.29-Nov.21 – Mars Declination is Out of Bounds  ("What does Out of Bounds mean?")

Mars goes "out of bounds" which means its alignment with our Earth's latitude (declination) is farther away from the equator than even the Sun can go (about 23°26' north or south). The Sun reaches its highest and lowest points (i.e. nearest to the North and South Poles) at the June and December Solstices, respectively. Mars goes Out of Bounds (OOB) about once a year, usually for between 1 and 7 months at a time. In this case Mars is OOB for about 2 months, at a Southern declination, while travelling from 9 Sagittarius to 19 Capricorn.

Out of Bounds

When a planet goes OOB, its energy tends to act beyond the limits of its usual range of activity. Normally, Mars energy involves how we deal with anger, taking action, sex drive and asserting ourselves. However, when Mars is OOB it could mean our personal anger is tapping into (or resonating with) anger within the Collective Unconscious, for example. Or the actions you take and the reactions you experience might have greater implications than usual. At its wildest, you could be seized by the impulse to go "off the grid" and do things completely out of character, which you normally wouldn't have the courage or audacity to do.

This could be a good thing, in that it can help you get un-stuck. You might discover a much greater context of experience or realization, which makes current problems or obstacles seem smaller and more manageable. Or you may be able to more easily shake off the lingering after-effects of past events and make a fresh start. You might feel a bit disoriented or out of your element for a while, but this can shake loose the old mindset, emotions, expectations or worries that have been hard to shed.

On the other hand, you might also find that it's much easier to behave and act in a way that leaves you facepalmed and wondering, "What the #@(! was I thinking!?" It will definitely help to be grounded during this time, but don't become so grounded that you remain stuck. This energy needs a certain amount of freedom, or you risk turning it in on yourself in the form of depression, anxiety or self-deprecation.

The best way to use this energy may be to explore possibilities, adventures and activities that you normally stay away from but are curious about. Do something that requires a bit of risk and courage. Step outside your comfort zone a little, but do it in a way that won't leave you wishing you had stayed home in bed. The idea is to give yourself an experience of feeling free of the shackles of everyday demands and restraints. Soar up into the stratosphere and fill your lungs with the fresh air up beyond the pollution of day-to-day living. Give your intentions, motivation, struggles and labours an adventurous vacation!

You are more likely to be affected by this if Mars makes strong aspects to your Natal chart (e.g. conjunction: 0°, opposition: 180° or square: 90°). Also remember that while Mars is OOB it is also forming a Grand Trine with Jupiter and Uranus (see Sep.26, above), so the effects of the Grand Trine could also be greatly intensified and amplified.

Mars also reaches its most extreme declination (24°56' South of the equator) on Oct.23-24. This happens to be when we will have a Solar Eclipse at 0° of Scorpio, and since Mars rules Scorpio (by traditional rulership), this will add to the already powerful intensity of that eclipse.

Sep.29-Oct.13 – Cardinal T-square (Uranus, Pluto, Sun, Venus)  (This is a Cardinal Cross aspect.)

Cardinal Cross T-square

The Cardinal Cross once again knocks on our door, this time with the Sun and Venus in tow. First the Sun and then Venus square Pluto and oppose Uranus, giving us a prolonged exposure to this stressful yet powerful and dynamic energy. In this case, you could experience a relationship, interaction or frame of mind where you feel controlled or shamed, or where you are challenged to face some uncomfortable or inconvenient truth about yourself or someone else.

As a result, you might be seized by the impulse to throw it all away, trying to break free of the constraints or difficult feelings. This might be a good thing, if you've been stuck for a while and just needed the courage or nerve to get out from under a bad or unproductive situation. On the other hand, it could also lead to reckless reaction that you might later regret, so it's wise to do a reality check with a trusted friend or advisor before making any major changes.

This configuration could also give you a push to take another step in your journey of evolution and transformation. This could manifest strongly in the area of relationships and how you interact with others, as well as how you maintain a sense of balance in a chaotic and stressful world. For example, it might feel like the right time to clear out your Facebook friends list, culling it down to only those people who you feel most comfortable with or who challenge you in a positive way. Or, it might be a good time to have that discussion with a Significant Other about difficult issues—but be aware that this energy could make it all too easy to say things in a caustic or abrupt way that might be better said in a more sensitive or tentative way.

This T-square is closest from Oct.04-07 (as the Sun moves through exact aspects to Uranus and Pluto) and from Oct.08-11 (as Venus does the same).

Oct.04 – Sun square Pluto (11:01 of Libra/Capricorn)  (Oct.03 in HAST)

This can be a challenging time, when your sense of purpose, identity and direction may feel blocked, overpowered or regulated by forces beyond your control. You may find yourself confronted by difficult situations or people, requiring that you rally an unusually strong show of power to keep from feeling powerless or overwhelmed. The trick is to center yourself in empowerment rather than simple power – that means your power comes from within yourself rather than from controlling people and situations outside of yourself. You might find yourself involved in power struggles or abandonment, either in the present or stirred up from the past. You might be forced to let go of your attachment to something or someone due to circumstances beyond your control. However, this can also be a time when you reach inside yourself and find you have more strength than you thought you did. Adversity may inspire new assertiveness and purpose in you – empowerment born of conflict and struggle.

Oct.04 – Mars square Chiron (14:12 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Oct.05 in AU)

It may be time to confront issues in your life that involve how/why you get hurt by others, how you yourself hurt others, and how healing can take place in either of these situations. Your awareness of this may due to a conflict in your life, but this can be a valuable learning experience for you, more-so than usual. Part of the problem may be that you need to tread your own path but are avoiding this for whatever reasons – perhaps circumstances compel you to satisfy others' expectations, or perhaps you are still struggling to muster the courage to find and walk your own path. Whatever the reasons, this transit may give you a push that will help to steer you in a healing direction, possibly by showing you how and why the path you have been on does not lead to where you want to go. If you start to feel overwhelmed, take some time out from the stress to get re-centered and grounded.

Oct.05 – Australia: Daylight Saving Time begins (until Apr.05.2015)

In many parts of Australia (and a few other countries in the Southern Hemisphere), it's time to put your clocks forward one hour the night before. If you're not sure whether or when your area is changing to/from DST, you can check the invaluable table provided by the good folks at TimeAndDate.com.

Oct.04 – Mercury Stationary Retrograde (02:18 of Scorpio; until Oct.25)  (Oct.05 in AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Mercury Retrograde.  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

Mercury now goes retrograde for the next 3+ weeks. For up to a week before and after today, Mercury is moving very slowly or stopped during the station. During this time, you may experience intensity, frustration, confusion, miscommunications, or feel like you're getting bogging down in your progress. Mercury retrograde is usually a time when it is best to rethink, rehash, reflect, and tie up old loose ends, rather than begin new ventures.

It is typical for new insights and information to emerge later in the retrograde cycle that you didn't anticipate, which can change the whole picture. Because of this, it is usually advised to avoid making final or permanent decisions (e.g., signing contracts or putting new projects into action), during the retrograde and even up to 2 weeks after Mercury goes direct. However, it is an excellent time to do fact-finding, research and investigation to prepare for major decisions, which are usually best put off until well after Mercury goes direct.

In the meantime, while Mercury is retrograde, expect the unexpected, and leave lots of extra time when planning your schedule (to minimize any disruptions from delays and complications). Stay flexible; for example, it's common to have to reschedule appointments. Do some things that use your intuitive, creative, non-rational mind for a while until Mercury goes direct again.

Oct.05 – Mars trine Uranus (14:37 of Sagittarius/Aries)  (Oct.04 in HAST, AKT, PDT, MDT, CDT)

This is a very high energy time, although not necessarily predictable or reliable. Your energy may come in spurts or in response to situations that don't normally affect you very much. You may find an upsurge of daring and confidence that seem to come out of nowhere. Or your sexual desire might suddenly come alive. This transit can inspire motivation that is spontaneous, sudden or unexpected. It might make your physical or emotional energy fluctuate or feel a bit "wired." However, it can also give a burst of courage and drive that can propel you out of a rut or inspire you to break free of limitations. Freedom, liberation and asserting your individuality are key areas that can ignite this energy. You might also find yourself involved in group activities, possibly in a leadership role or in a way that your ideas have a greater effect than usual on others.

Oct.07 – Sun opposite Uranus (14:30 of Libra/Aries)  (Oct.08 in AU)

This transit brings an encounter with the Awakener! This could come in the form of another person or outside situation that shakes you out of your habitual routine and pushes you to try a new approach to your situation. Life may be very unpredictable right now, requiring you to be spontaneous, innovative or independent in the way you respond to it. This could be stressful or exciting! It is actually showing you a new path in the darkness, like a lightening flash in the night. If you feel startled or caught off guard, or confused about what to do next, find your internal centre and try to be open to what the situation is illuminating for you. You now have a chance to shed some old habits and ways that you are stuck, if you can stay centered in the middle of the whirlwind. You may experience revelations – that "ah-ha!!" feeling – which could open up new possibilities and opportunities for you. However, it might feel like you have little choice but to try these new things (rather than freely choosing them). You could find yourself reacting to others with a powerful impulse to throw off the shackles of anything that feels restrictive, to reclaim your independence – although this could also be motivated by a fear of commitment or responsibility too. It is wise to check your own inner motives, feelings and assumptions before automatically dismissing, rejecting or rebelling against other people.

"What's a Lunar Eclipse?"

"What's a Full Moon?"

Read more about the Sun-Moon cycles.

Read more about how you experience ARIES energy in your life.

Aries is raw energy! It is the life force, as primal as childbirth and as irrepressible as mating season.

It is the exuberance of play and fun. It is the resolve of courage that pushes risk aside to clear its path.

When you act on impulse, you're seized by Aries energy.

Your immediate emotional reaction – anger, fear, laughter, relief, sadness – comes from your Aries nature.

When you find the focus and drive to rise above inhibition, procrastination or hesitation, it is Aries courage that propels you up and over that hump.

Your willingness to take risks, your adventurous spirit, your ability to strike out on your own path – all of these show Aries energy.

So, what does it mean for us to have a Lunar Eclipse in Aries?

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority,
it is time to pause and reflect.
~ Mark Twain

This eclipse should be a diversely adventurous one! A little something for everyone.

For starters, this eclipse is in distinguished company. It is the second in a series of four consecutive Total Lunar Eclipses. In scientific circles this phenomenon is called a Tetrad. It happens several times per century, so it's a somewhat rare event. There were 5 tetrads in the 20th century and will be 8 of them in the 21st century. This current one began last Apr.15 and, along with this one, the set extends through the Apr.04.2015 and Sep.28.2015 Lunar Eclipses.

All of these Lunar Eclipses take place in the Aries-Libra axis. This is the Me-You dynamic. It is the Self and the Other. Relationships, interaction, connection, mirroring, projection and individuality are all wrapped up in this axis.

On a personal level, this is about the people in your life – who they are, and who you are with them. What do you bring out in them, and what do they bring out in you? And how do you respond to these evoked qualities? Do you welcome them, admire them, try to develop them? Or do you fight against them, resist them and try to repress them?

Either response is possible within this axis, and one response is not always necessarily better than the other. As with all things astrology (and indeed with life), the effect largely depends on the current state of affairs, since that's what the energy will act on.

So, if you usually respond passively to aggressive or domineering people, then interacting with someone who angers you enough to get mad might be a good thing, giving you a chance to exercise and develop your assertiveness. In the same way, if your temper normally has a short fuse, then interacting with someone with whom you need to be more tactful could be a good thing too, as frustrating as that might be for you.

The point is that this eclipse gives you a chance to observe who you become around other people and how you each affect one another. Is that something that's good or bad for you? Don't jump to conclusions about this too quickly – you might be missing important insight.

This is a chance to explore and embrace your unique individuality – the qualities that distinguish you from the crowd. These are the parts of you that seek to separate the rams from the rest of the sheep, so to speak.

I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas.
When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.
~ Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

If you thought Aries was already a firecracker, wait 'til you get a load of these combinations!

Grand Trine in Fire Signs

For one thing, the eclipsed Aries Moon is tightly conjunct impulsive, volatile and erratic Uranus. In addition, these two form one corner of a Grand Trine in Fire signs, and in fact it is a Grand Trine Kite when you factor in the Sun and Venus.

At best, these configurations could bring high bursts of energy, explosions of motivation and thrilling enthusiasm. At its worst, it could be difficult to control or focus your intentions, actions and emotions toward a positive or predictable result. If you're looking for energy to help you be spontaneous, free-spirited and full of "piss and vinegar" then this could give you quite the roller coaster ride! However, if you're hoping for a nice, tranquil, easy-going stretch, you would do well to buckle up and be prepared for some unexpected and rowdy energy.

Mars, the planetary ruler of our Aries Lunar Eclipse and currently in the Fire sign of Sagittarius, occupies another of the Trine triangle corners. This means your physical and emotional energy levels could be quite pumped over the next couple of weeks, and quite possibly higher than usual over the next 6 months. (Again: you might consider this a welcome change or a dreaded hassle.)

It could be best to find a focus now. What can you accomplish in 6 months that you can start to put into action now? Even if your ambitions extend beyond 6 months, what milestone could you aim for on that journey by that time? What would you like to invest your energy, intention, enthusiasm and dynamic drive in? What would feel fulfilling, rejuvenating and uplifting? This is a rare flare of Fire energy and it would be a shame to let it pass you by without taking advantage of it some way.

You are so busy being YOU that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are.
~ John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

Grand Trine Kite at the Lunar Eclipse in Aries

The Grand Trine is also a Grand Trine Kite, with the Sun-Moon opposition forming the spine. Venus is also part of this figure, being conjunct the Sun. Usually the best way (some say the only way) to tap into Grand Trine potential is to grapple with and come to terms with the tension, conflict and struggle of the opposition aspect in the Kite.

With the Sun and Venus in Venus' sign of Libra, their agenda is that of finding and maintaining some form of balance and harmony. This is rather at odds with the wild and crazy gyrations of the Moon-Uranus conjunction in Aries, to whom the Libran peace, love and flowers might sound unbearably tame and namby-pamby.

However, where these diverse energies could find common ground is for each side to contribute its gifts to the agenda and intentions of the other. In other words, the Libran mediation contingent could offer a valuable sense of how to balance the aggressive and chaotic nature of the Aries army with some damage-control diplomacy and negotiation.

Similarly, the high octane spirit of the Aries team can give courage and a bold heart to Libra's tendency to want to be perhaps a little too "nice" sometimes. In other words, it might be a good time to strut your stuff and shine your light in order to attract the attention and recognition that you want.

Remember to always be yourself. Unless you suck.
~ Joss Whedon

Cardinal Cross with the Lunar Eclipse in Aries

It's also important to note that we have another Cardinal Cross in the Lunar Eclipse chart. Pluto is in square aspect (90°) to the Sun-Venus on one side and the Moon-Uranus on the other. In other words, the Cardinal Cross is an integral part of this eclipse energy, and that means its stress, conflict and dynamic potency is released into the collective ether to be played out and processed over the next 6 months.

So it's a good thing we have the Grand Fire Trine! At its best, it can give energy, determination and courage to face and work through the challenges of the Cardinal Cross. At its not-so-best, it might also bring out quick intolerance, judgment, condemnation, anger and an inability to accept what is, resorting to posturing, sabre-rattling and an attempt to out-shout those with whom you disagree. If you're looking for a rowdy shouting match then go for it, but remember that you'll still have to live with the consequences of where that reaction takes you and the other person.

I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.

Your best way to work constructively with this energy is to keep an eye on your intentions and your behaviour, and especially noticing any inconsistencies between them. For example, if you're saying one thing but doing another, then perhaps your actions are responding to a deeper unconscious desire that you're not owning.

The next 2 weeks – and by way of playing out the hand that's dealt now, the next 6 months until the next set of eclipses – can hold up a mirror where you can see yourself in a new light. What you see is likely to be a mixture of (what you feel are) positive and negative, but the whirlwind of energy being released right now can carry you far away to Oz where you could find your own Yellow Brick Road.

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often,
and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay
for the privilege of owning yourself.

Oct.08 – Venus square Pluto (11:03 of Libra/Capricorn)  (Oct.09 in AU)

Relationships and interactions are likely to be deep, intense and transformative under this transit. The same goes for your sense of beauty, and your material and financial dealings, which may require you to delve far deeper than usual to discover the truth under the surface of things. You may encounter the dark shadow of your desires – the obscure, secret or unconscious hunger that hides underneath the "politically correct" face you show to the world (and to yourself. This is a challenge to be resolved in some way. It might bring out conflict rooted in envy or jealousy, if someone has something (or someone) that you feel you are entitled to. Or, it might prompt you to reach very deep into your soul to find your inner beauty and value. You may be challenged to develop empathy or empowerment about something that initially seemed undesirable, unforgivable or scary. This transit can show you the problem areas that need to be transformed and healed. And seeing these more clearly can be a catharsis that sets that transformative healing in motion.

Oct.08 – Mars trine Jupiter (17:14 of Sagittarius/Leo)  (Oct.09 in AU)

Energy, assertiveness, aggression and sexuality are amplified during this time. Physical, mental and emotional energy can run high. Your motivation can take on an air of confidence and purpose. If you normally shrink back from asserting yourself, this can be a time when it's a bit easier to find the courage to take a stand. It can also make you more sensitive to this amplified energy in others around you. If you are distressed by Mars energy in general (afraid of anger, intimidated by aggression, cautious about sexuality, etc.), this transit might bring a bit more of it than you can comfortably handle. However, it can also give you an opportunity to experience and make friends with this energy. If you typically enjoy high energy, this can be a time when you can make progress with plans and projects, and have flirtatious or impish fun along the way.

Oct.10 – Mercury Retrograde enters Libra (until Nov.08)  (Oct.11 in AU)

Mercury is retrograde in Libra, which can lead you to reconsider choices you thought you had already made. Agreements with others (especially those close to you) might need to be renegotiated or adjusted. It may become important to discuss issues with your partner or spouse that have been lurking in the background but now become foremost in your mind. It might be difficult to know how to be diplomatic, sensitive or gentle in your style of communication. For example, which is kinder – to say something difficult and risk hurting the person, or to avoid saying it and risk telling a "lie of omission" and damaging their trust? You may be faced with these kinds of choices that have no clear answer, yet you must decide which path to take. You might find you can listen better under this transit, yet you could find it difficult to verbalize or give feedback about what you hear. At its worst, indecision could become paralyzing, as each choice seems to create more problems than it solves. It might seem like you can only "pick your poison" and deal with the consequences. It's probably wise to wait until well after Mercury has gone direct before you make any important decisions, in this case. If that's not possible, it may help to talk to someone you feel comfortable with who is good at simplifying and organising things.

Oct.10 – Sun sextile Jupiter (17:34 of Libra/Leo)  (Oct.11 in UK, AU)

This is a time when your understanding of the Big Picture and your place within it has the potential to click into place. As a result, your confidence and self-esteem can be quite high right now. Your ability to see opportunities and possibilities more clearly can produce an experience of being "lucky." Your insight into life and the world around you may be especially bright, optimistic and inspired. This is a "feel-good" transit, when your sense of self can seem to expand and become free. You may feel especially connected to spiritual energy during this time. Just be careful that all this self-assurance and "knowing" doesn't backfire, by overestimating the extent of your knowledge or underestimating the reaction of your audience. It is possible to become a bit self-indulgent under this transit, so be careful not to overdo it. Beyond a reasonable caution, this is a transit to enjoy!

Oct.11 – Venus opposite Uranus (14:22 of Libra/Aries)  (Oct.10 in HAST)

Relationships, social interaction, material resources and emotional balance may be a bit unpredictable or unstable around this time, as Uranus the Awakener sounds a wake-up gong in these areas. You may be more inclined to act out of character, to experiment or be reckless in relationship, social or financial matters, which could be liberating or disturbing, exciting or upsetting. Circumstances or other people might create a situation in which you are forced to respond in an unusual or unfamiliar way. The idea behind this energy is to become more flexible and more open to a broader vision of what is possible in those areas. There may be weak spots in the affected areas which this transit illuminates by creating problems, so that they can be repaired and strengthened, or else broken and released so that new opportunities can come in. Trust the process and keep your eyes open to seeing new truth and insight.

Oct.12 – Sun conjunct North Lunar Node (19:14 of Libra)  (Oct.13 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

For a few days before and after this date, your sense of self and purpose are in sharper focus. You might encounter people who understand you more than usual, or you could find the courage to shine a little brighter than you normally do. However, this also brings a challenge to find and fulfil your potential within a broader context of life, friends, associates, groups and the world. It is a good time to look at your vision of the future—on a personal level but especially the wider vision you have for the world around you. What is your greatest potential over the coming year? Ten years? The New and Full Moons just before and after this transit are usually Eclipses. Check to see if those Eclipses form major aspects to your natal chart, since these will show a future direction for you over the coming months. The Sun-Node transit happening right now will help to focus those changes.

Oct.14 – Venus sextile Jupiter (18:05 of Libra/Leo)  (Oct.13 in HAST)

There is an abundance of creative inspiration, material enjoyment, feel-good pleasure in the air! Your luck and opportunity to attract money, love, resources and self-esteem are high right now. It may be relatively easy to attract the people, possessions and opportunities you want or need, but you'll still have to work to get them. On the other hand, your eyes may be bigger than your stomach (as mother would say) and you might be tempted to charm, flirt or bluff your way through a situation more than usual. There may also be a tendency to self-indulgence. These are not necessarily bad things, but it's probably wise to remember to use this energy to enhance your best judgement, not override it.

Oct.15 – Venus conjunct North Lunar Node (dd:mm of Sign)  (Oct.14 in HAST, AKT, PDT)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Your love, beauty and joy are especially visible to others right now. You are likely to be at your most attractive – both in body and personality. You could become a magnet for what you desire today – just be careful what you ask for, since you might get it! What you attract to you might be material abundance, admiration and appreciation from others, or perhaps a sense of well-being that brings you into a more beautiful balance with those around you. This can also be a time when you begin a new relationship or social contact, or perhaps you begin a journey to make yourself or your world more beautiful, loving and kind. At worst, or if other stressful transits are also in effect, you might also have a tendency to fall into over-indulgence, empty glamour or compulsive craving.

Oct.15 – Sun sextile Mars (21:51 of Libra/Sagittarius)  (Oct.14 in HAST, AKT)

You have power, energy, motivation and enthusiasm to fuel your ambitions now! The catch is you will need to reach for it; it won't simply "come to you." Reach into your past experience and reach forward toward your vision of what you want. This will help to guide your actions and focus your assertive energy in the direction you want to go. This is a good time to make progress toward a goal. Or, you might want to take steps to leave behind inhibitions that have held you back. This transit can also make you more apt to take risks and find the courage to do things you might not otherwise do. Your tolerance for obstacles may be shortened, and making it easy to assume the only way through them is by using direct force. This may or may not be wise, depending on how extreme you want to take it, so use your good judgment and don't throw away your diplomacy.

Oct.16 – Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (23:24 of Libra)   (Oct.17 in AU)

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface.

Oct.16 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Mars (23:08 of Libra/Sagittarius)   (Oct.17 in UK, AU)

This is the second of three passes of this transit, which generally supports forthright communication and finding your assertive voice, if you wish to cultivate that. By now you have a chance to examine your usual mode of communication and may be seeing how it could benefit from improvement. Or, you might have been trying out some new forms of communication or being more outspoken, and might be experiencing the feedback and reactions to this. Perhaps it's a good idea to soften words that are a bit too blunt? Or you might find making a sharper, more specific point will get to the heart of the matter and avoid misunderstandings. This is a good time to try different creative ideas on for size and see which ones bring the results you are aiming for.

Oct.17 – Mercury Retrograde conjunct Venus (22:19 of Libra)  (Oct.18 in AU)

When Mercury retrograde conjoins Venus, it may be time to rethink your relationship with someone in your social circle or even someone close to you. There may be valuable insight to be found by talking less and listening more; assuming less and observing more. On the other hand, there may be a conversation that needs to happen with someone you care about, which you've been putting off or trying to find the words to say. You might become aware of an agreement or negotiation that needs to be revisited. Or it might be a good time to reconsider your budget and plan out how to afford that special purchase you have your eye on. During this time you might feel a bit socially awkward, unsure of what to say or how to say it—and you might even find that for a few days you have an annoying case of foot-in-mouth disease. ;-) Or you might just find yourself in a quiet mood or a bit withdrawn: reflective, observant and content to sit back and enjoy your inner thoughts.

Oct.20 – Venus sextile Mars (25:25 of Libra/Sagittarius)  (Oct.21 in AU)

It is possible now to take a balanced approach to conflict, problems and projects that require effort. This can combine both a gentle touch and firm action; sensitivity and forcefulness. Negotiation and interaction with others could be aggressive and determined now, but also balanced with sensitivity and style. Any expressions of anger, frustration or discontent are more likely to be tempered with fairness, moderation and composure. You'll have to apply some effort to get these opposite energies working in sync together, but the potential and opportunity are there more-so than usual now.

Oct.20 – Mercury Retrograde conjunct North Lunar Node (19:16 of Libra)   (Oct.21 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

When Mercury Retrograde conjoins the North Node, it is a good time to rethink where you're going and/or how you're trying to get to your destination. This is a time to go back to re-examine your "learning curve" in life and whether your approach to your personal growth is working well for you. You might find yourself rethinking past decisions about how or where to move ahead in your life. It could also be a time when you are able to identify what is obstructing your progress or needlessly complicating your journey, giving you a chance to purge or change whatever is getting in your way. This could be a time to listen and pay attention, more than to express yourself. Communication can be more effective if you're bringing out ideas, observations and feedback that you normally keep to yourself—but be careful not to overdo the emotional charge of what you say. If this has been bottled up inside you for some time, watch that it doesn't spurt out in a way that creates consequences you would rather avoid.

Oct.20 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Jupiter (19:01 of Libra/Leo)  (Oct.21 in AU)

You may have an abundance of ideas and words to express them under this transit. There is the potential (if you reach for it) to put ideas, facts and thoughts together into a cohesive whole. You may find you can understand the overall patterns in a situation, or you are able to see the Big Picture, better than usual. New insights and a change of perspective may abound, as your stream of consciousness flows abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. You may find yourself more talkative than usual, as you try to share and convey the new ideas, inspiration and knowledge coming into your mind. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. There is a chance that you may be so elated and confident that you might come across as a bit overbearing or even as a "know-it-all," so be sure to listen too.

Oct.23 – Sun enters Scorpio (until Nov.22)

Happy Solar Return to all Scorpios! While the Sun is in Scorpio, we all get to explore our passions and probe the secrets within our depths. There is an intensity to the Scorpio experience that goes right to the core, and Scorpio challenges you to take a closer look at how that intensity manifests in your psyche. What are you passionate about and what fires up that passion? What events and experiences have brought you to "rock bottom" and then turned the tide to rejuvenate you back to a new lease on life? What people, causes, beliefs or physical things are so important to you that you would even risk death for? What secrets do you harbour inside, even from yourself? Posing these hypothetical questions doesn't mean you'll bring it on! But doing so can help you tap into the Scorpio experience to understand better how you experience transformation and touch the deepest heart of life itself. The danger is in becoming so obsessed with your passion that you neglect the practical realities. Or, you could become stuck in the "dark side" of transformation and letting go of the old, that you forget that figurative death and transformation are meant to lead into rebirth in order to complete the cycle. During this time, celebrate the endings in your life. Honour the hard times when you have had to face painful losses. And take passionate pleasure in the things that pull you out of your routines and make you feel alive. In some way, they have all allowed you to survive, thrive and grow.

Oct.23 – Venus enters Scorpio (until Nov.16)  (Oct.24 in AU)

Venus is the planet of relationships, interaction, beauty, pleasure and material resources. She struts through Scorpio with attitude! As a result, we may experience sensuality, sexuality and intimacy in a more intense, in-your-face kind of way. You might feel the need to establish a better balance of power with others that is pleasant and even-handed on the surface but also deals with the more gritty or intense energy that tends to lurk under the surface. It may be easier to attract what (or who) you want now, by focusing your intent and interest on the object of your affection and desire. However, there can also be a danger of becoming manipulative, controlling or devious to get what you want. Strive to become centred in your deepest heart's desire through steadfast self-honesty. Aim to avoid becoming obsessed with power, wealth or lust so that you lose sight of your true light inside. This is a good transit to take joy in your instinctive nature.
