"Come to the edge."
Well, uh, we might fall.
"Come to the edge!"
It's too high!

And they..... flew!

Sep.27 – LUNAR ECLIPSE ~ FULL MOON in ARIES (04:40 of Aries)

When a new life is ready to be born, the effort it takes to break out of its shell is monumental!

This is the will to live. It is the life force expressing itself in its most direct, focused and purposeful way.

This is Aries energy. Birth energy. The emergence and initiation of a new manifestation.

It's a life and death struggle. Leave the familiarity of your cocoon and you face the fight of your life, with no guarantee of victory. Stay and you will surely perish. Life cannot flourish in the now-ruptured husk that supported its gestation. It must move beyond what was. There is no going back.

It's truly a heroic struggle. There are obstacles that must be surmounted, and although this can be exhausting or painful, the truth is they are making you stronger. You gain benefits that you would miss if you don't go through the struggle. Your "fighting muscles" are activated, empowered and given permission to integrate with the rest of who you are.

A human birth example is how babies born by caesarean section are not as protected against some health problems later in life as those who come into the world through a vaginal birth.

So, even though you may feel exhausted, discouraged, anguished or resentful as you go through the battle, you are actually building up strength in body, mind and spirit. You might wish it would just be over, but it is what it is and it takes as long as it takes.

This may not sound very inviting, but it is the stuff that forms and sculpts who you are, who you become and what you are capable of doing.

This sets the stage for the Lunar Eclipse in Aries. A heroic battle to overcome obstacles that leaves you empowered, strengthened and increasingly capable of grabbing the brass ring in a more positive future.

Are you ready? Gird your loins and let the games begin!

Eventually, all things merge into one,
and a river runs through it.
~ Norman Maclean

So: where are you emerging into a new direction in your life? In order to do that, you might need to let go of some old baggage or a previous dream or destination. This is a South Node eclipse, meaning that the Moon is conjunct the South Lunar Node, while the Sun opposing the Moon is at the North Node.

The South Node is generally associated with something unwanted or unfortunate. It might be something that has outlived its usefulness, or has already reached its peak and now it is time to let it go. It could also be a lesson you once struggled with that is now learned and you can move it out of the foreground, into the background where it can be integrated into the backdrop of your awareness and understanding.

A Lunar Eclipse is also a Full Moon, which tends to be a time of manifestation, emergence and wide open presence of something that has been developing.

Put them all together and it suggests a time when you may be letting go of an old dream that has run its course or run out of gas, which can make room for a new one. Or, you might be ready to move an old obstacle out of the way, to clear your path so that you can move forward with a new ambition or goal.

Since this is happening in fast, Fiery, impulsive Aries, your opportunity to take action on whatever it is you need to do, could come quickly with little warning. Suddenly all the machinery cogs may line up just right and you must act NOW or lose the window of opportunity. Or, all the different paths you've been on converge and the time is right to merge them into a new direction together.

The gem cannot be polished without friction,
nor man perfected without trials.
~ Confucius

Here's where the eclipse energy could get a bit rough: Mars and Saturn. Mars rules the sign of Aries, so whatever is happening with Mars bounces over into the eclipse energy. Mars, the planet of action, has just entered Virgo, so any action you take will need to be precisely aimed and carefully calibrated. It's not enough to just take any old step forward – how big a step? In what direction? A firm, bold step, or a confident yet careful one? Is the terrain flat and stable, or jagged and wobbly? It helps to be deliberate, mindful and focused in whatever step forward you choose to make.

Mars is in a square aspect to Saturn (90°). This aspect is not for the lazy or lethargic. Whereas Mars normally likes to go his own way, free and independent of expectations or responsibilities, Saturn has a ball and chain with Mars' name on it – exactly what he doesn't want. Sorry Mars, you can't take action without reaping the consequences. ;-) Therefore: how, where, why and whether you take a particular step had better be carefully considered.

Mars square Saturn, Mars conjunct Jupiter

No one wants consequences that create more problems than they solve, right? As long as we're living in Saturn's realm (physical reality) consequences are just part of life: cause and effect. The trick is to choose actions and make decisions that will bring the least unpleasant consequences, and whose results will become positive building blocks that create a foundation for new and better actions.

Saturn has just recently returned to Sagittarius, after spending a few months in Scorpio, turning out the lights and taking out the garbage one last time before leaving. Saturn in Sag is concerned with the manifestation of justice and righteous behaviour. It wants to make sure the end results are a true reflection of the higher intentions, principles and potential that inspired them.

Not an easy order to fill. And it won't come about without conscious effort, patience and hard work.

So for Mars, it's not enough for him to do whatever he does with Virgoan precision and attention to detail – it must also reflect a higher purpose and serve a greater good. It's not just about following the recipe; it's also about doing that in the context of some greater principle.

The service side of Virgo seems like a good fit in this case. However, this could be a bit difficult for Mars who usually prefers to focus on personal agendas and self-determined priorities.

The world is wide, and I will not waste my life in friction
when it could be turned into momentum.
~ Frances E. Willard

Okay, no more groaning! ;-) There is good news: Saturn makes positive aspects to the Sun and Moon. Saturn is trine to the Moon (120°) and sextile to the Sun (60°), forming an aspect pattern called a Wedge. So, while Mars is struggling under his Beast of Burden mandate, Saturn is on the same page with the Sun and that eclipsed Moon.

Lunar Eclipse with Saturn wedge aspect pattern

This suggests that although the road may be hard and full of obstacles, progress and success are possible if you keep your intentions realistic and your sights set on your destination within the context of the big picture.

The Sagittarius lens that Saturn now looks through appreciates the vision, inspiration and quest for adventure that the Aries Moon longs for. Sagittarius understands the need to step forward, but only if it takes you closer to that pinnacle on the far horizon so you can see what lies beyond. Saturn, however, knows that before you can go somewhere else, you have to start with where you are. So these two energies might not be the easiest to combine into a single compass direction that points your way.

The Aries Moon can provide the point of the compass needle. Guided by instinct and propelled by impulse and enthusiasm, Aries is happy (or at least accepting) of Saturn acting as rudder to steer its way. Saturn in Sag takes care of the greater implications and long-term destination, while the Moon in Aries provides the motivation, ambition and impulse to keep moving. Meanwhile back at the ranch, the Mars-in-Virgo work horse supplies the drive and ensures that everyone stays on track, if possible.

Passion is passion. It's the excitement between the tedious spaces, and it doesn't matter where it's directed...It can be coins or sports or politics or horses or music or faith...the saddest people I've ever met in life are the ones who don't care deeply about anything at all.
~ Nicholas Sparks, Dear John

Mars' destiny is not merely to wear the yoke of an ox, though. He is approaching a conjunction with Jupiter (exact on Oct.17). At its best, generous, wise Jupiter can be a great blessing to volatile, impulsive Mars. The combination was made famous in the song The Age of Aquarius, which painted the pair in idealistic colours. Certainly, Jupiter's broad, moral perspective can grace Mars with a sense of higher purpose and ethical resolve, which can temper Mars' sharper edges that might otherwise do harm.

Mars square Saturn, Mars conjunct Jupiter

On the other hand, Jupiter could just amplify Mars' impulsive or combative nature, and with Saturn wagging his critical finger Mars might become overwhelmed by perfectionism. At worst, you might feel like nothing is good enough or that your efforts are not appreciated, no matter how finely you split hairs. You may find it easy to blame others, or feel blamed by them, if things don't go right or if high standards have not been met.

If things become difficult, it will probably help to slow down a bit. Mars might not like it, but if Mars energy is the problem then it will probably be worth it to live with a little frustration in order to gain the most productive, constructive effect of this eclipse. Your Mars energy can get into hyper-reactive mode, especially if you're feeling pressured, discouraged or afraid.

Jupiter is trine to Pluto (120°) which can bend Jupiter's aim toward transformation and the elimination of obsessive and sinister intentions. Just watch out for the possibility of becoming obsessive about perfectionism.

For best results, keep your intentions looking through the lens of the highest truth you know. At the same time, keep at least one foot on the ground and rooted in practicality and methodology. One step at a time as you climb the mountain. And be prepared to be reborn!

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...
~ Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Sep.30 – Sun conjunct Mercury Retrograde (07:07 of Libra)   (Oct.01 in UK, AU)

When the Sun conjoins Mercury Retrograde, there is a new beginning in the areas of awareness, communication, use of information and exchange of ideas. This may or may not be heralded by a recognisable event or experience, although for a day or two your consciousness may shift. Your awareness and mental concentration may take a dip into the unconscious, becoming unusually murky and muddy, or it may rise into ultra-consciousness and become suddenly clear and lucid (afterwards returning to the usual Mercury retrograde fog). A new awareness or perspective on what has unfolded during the retrograde cycle thus far may surface now, or an unworkable attitude or perception of these events may fall apart under the weight of new information. This shift of awareness may be obvious or subtle, sudden or gradual, but this transit marks a turning point in the Mercury retrograde cycle. It also marks a time when mental awareness often goes further underground, for the rest of the retrograde period, making it a little harder to operate objectively and rationally in the outside world. Spend some time in your right-brain, intuitive, non-rational mind, which can coax your mental creativity and inventiveness to the surface.

Oct.06 – Sun square Pluto (13:00 of Libra/Capricorn)   (Oct.07 in AU)

This can be a challenging time, when your sense of purpose, identity and direction may feel blocked, overpowered or regulated by forces beyond your control. You may find yourself confronted by difficult situations or people, requiring that you rally an unusually strong show of power to keep from feeling powerless or overwhelmed. The trick is to center yourself in empowerment rather than simple power – that means your power comes from within yourself rather than from controlling people and situations outside of yourself. You might find yourself involved in power struggles or abandonment, either in the present or stirred up from the past. You might be forced to let go of your attachment to something or someone due to circumstances beyond your control. However, this can also be a time when you reach inside yourself and find you have more strength than you thought you did. Adversity may inspire new assertiveness and purpose in you – empowerment born of conflict and struggle.

Oct.06 – Mercury Retrograde sextile Saturn (01:32 of Libra/Sagittarius)   (Oct.07 in AU)

It can be easier to take a logical, practical approach to problem-solving and decisions now. It's a good time to make plans and work out the logistics of how you're going to get from "here" to "there" in pursuing your ambitions. Or, you may find it's time to bring closure to finished goals, by distilling and systemizing what you've learned in the past several months. This will probably require a bit of effort on your part to make it happen, but the opportunity is there if you choose to take it. This transit can bring mental stability and the ability to apply your mental focus in a practical and grounded way. It may be easier to see things realistically and objectively. Creative energy can become productive and rewarding, if you use it methodically or logically.

Oct.06 – Mars opposite Neptune (07:29 of Virgo/Pisces)   (Oct.07 in NDT, UK, AU)

For up to a week before and after today, you have a chance to discover and work with your blind spots and the hidden motives that trip you up. You can get a better look at the ideals, hopes, longing and dreams that motivate you. Your actions may reach for heights of inspiration or the ecstasy of surrender. This could bring release of tension...or an encounter with illusion and deception – and it might not be easy to know which is which. It could feel like you are spinning your wheels or "shadow-boxing" and not sure why. You may be dealing with a hidden agenda or unconscious motives (yours or someone else's). You might be trying to apply a proactive solution to an ambiguous situation, and wonder why it doesn't work very well. Responding to conflicts or obstacles in a passive-aggressive or manipulative way could be tempting under this transit, since it may be hard to know how to take direct and effective action. Resentment might become a defiant way to express "toothless" anger. Part of the problem may be that you are fighting against your own unconscious idealism. Feelings of disappointment, helplessness or frustration may bring up deeper feelings from your unconscious, making it difficult to know how to respond effectively in the here-and-now. Being honest with yourself about what's really going on inside you will go a long way toward increasing your empowerment.

Oct.08 – Mercury Retrograde conjunct True North Lunar Node (01:00 of Libra)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")  (Oct.09 in AU)

Ideas are in focus, especially when they're shared with others. It could be a time when you observe or notice something new, giving you a new perspective that you will mull over for the coming several months. Or you might be called upon to give a talk or presentation that shares information with others. It might be an especially active time with emails, Facebook, Twitter or texting. Communication and collection of thoughts and ideas is the central theme here. Keep your eyes, mind and curiosity open – the world could be showing you something important and fascinating!

Oct.08 – Venus enters Virgo (until Nov.08)   (Oct.09 in AU)

Under this transit, it is possible to fall in love with purity, precision and analysis. It is a time to invest in health, efficiency, and your contribution to the world around you. The beauty is in the details, as you embrace a labour of love in your life. Just don't get so enamoured with pristine splendour that you get lost in perfectionism and unable to accept the natural imperfection that exists in all life and humanity. Each of us is the Universe's perfect child, but we are also in a state of becoming and growing and are therefore likely to make human mistakes. Remember that we're here for the journey, as much as the destination. This part of the journey takes us into service and devotion, whether that is focused on another person or on ourselves.

Oct.09 – Mercury Stationary Direct (00:53 of Libra; next Rx begins Jan.05.2016)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Mercury Retrograde.  Read more about Retrograde planets.)   (Oct.10 in AU)

Mercury finally turns direct! Yippeeee!!!! ;-) But we're not out of the woods just yet. For up to a week before and after today, you may experience mental intensity, confusion, and miscommunications or simply changes in your outlook. After being Retrograde for the last 3 to 3½ weeks, Mercury is now taking a slow turn to resume Direct motion. This period has challenged you to rethink and rehash things that required some fine-tuning or revision. The Direct station can be a time when clearer decisions start to emerge from the issues and struggles you've encountered during the retrograde period. Or, it might turn your perspective around so that you're seeing your situation fresh again.

Over the next couple of weeks, while Mercury is still in the Shadow, your brain may feel a bit like it's gradually waking up after a deep sleep. During this time, you can gradually put into practice the learning and knowledge you've gained from your retrograde "dreams" and moonlight visions. It will take time to get fully back into sync with the Mercury direct energy. So, take it slow, one step at a time, and untangle yourself one strand at a time.

The key dates of this Mercury cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

Mercury is tightly conjunct the North Lunar Node, both of them at 0 degrees of Libra – a powerful degree, being the first in a Cardinal sign. Don't be surprised if you find you are strongly affected by others during this time (Oct.07-11). Your communication and interaction with others may be having a greater effect than you realize. Perhaps you are inspiring them or vice versa—or it might manifest as argument, debate or (re)negotiating a previous agreement. This stationary turning point can be a powerful time to speak from the heart. If what you have to say might not be easily accepted by the other person, try to say it with kindness.

Oct.10 – Mercury Direct conjunct True North Lunar Node (01:02 of Libra)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")   (Oct.11 in AU)

Oct.10 – Venus square Saturn (01:54 of Virgo/Sagittarius)   (Oct.11 in UK, AU)

Finances, relationships, social contacts and/or pleasures may seem blocked or require extra effort right now. Manifesting your desires may require added hard work, but this struggle could also bring you closer to your goals. It may feel like there is a huge rock blocking your path that keeps you from fulfilling your heart's desire. It may be necessary to face some difficult aspect of your situation before it is possible to know how to proceed. This is ultimately a problem to be solved by confronting that which is unrealistic, unworkable, or just not in your best interest. This can also be a time when you arrive at a crossroads and must make some firm choices, or when circumstances might force you to change your direction. This transit can make your choice clear, although it might not be the one you hoped for.

Oct.11 – Jupiter trine Pluto (13:02 of Virgo/Capricorn)   (Oct.12 in UK, AU)

The quest for freedom, wisdom and truth (Jupiter) now works cooperatively with the cycle of transformation, destruction and renewal (Pluto). The effects of this transit aren't likely to be flashy or perhaps even obvious. However, you now have access to optimism and far-reaching vision that can provide a more positive context to any difficulty you might be having in shedding old baggage, letting go of attachments or simply seeing your life changing at a very deep level. It is also a time when you can bring your understanding and wisdom to shine a light on that deep change, to light a candle in the dark corners of what is unfamiliar or scary.

Oct.11 – Sun opposite Uranus (18:30 of Libra/Aries)   (Oct.12 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

This transit brings an encounter with the Awakener! This could come in the form of another person or outside situation that shakes you out of your habitual routine and pushes you to try a new approach to your situation. Life may be very unpredictable right now, requiring you to be spontaneous, innovative or independent in the way you respond to it. This could be stressful or exciting! It is actually showing you a new path in the darkness, like a lightening flash in the night. If you feel startled or caught off guard, or confused about what to do next, find your internal centre and try to be open to what the situation is illuminating for you. You now have a chance to shed some old habits and ways that you are stuck, if you can stay centered in the middle of the whirlwind. You may experience revelations – that "ah-ha!!" feeling – which could open up new possibilities and opportunities for you. However, it might feel like you have little choice but to try these new things (rather than freely choosing them). You could find yourself reacting to others with a powerful impulse to throw off the shackles of anything that feels restrictive, to reclaim your independence – although this could also be motivated by a fear of commitment or responsibility too. It is wise to check your own inner motives, feelings and assumptions before automatically dismissing, rejecting or rebelling against other people.
