Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.

Jul.04 – NEW MOON in CANCER (12:53 of Cancer)

Where do you belong? What or whom do you trust? How easy or hard is it for you to trust or have faith?

The New Moon in Cancer raises some interesting questions about how we navigate and manage our need for security, certainty and safety.

Cancer in general, along with its planetary ruler the Moon, represents our personal connection to the world around us. It is our feelings and emotional needs, which are rooted in our childhood and our past.

As we grow into and through adulthood, we retain that un-adulterated openness in our Inner Child. Our Inner Adult strives to grow stronger as we get older, and is better able to contain, support and re-parent our Inner Child. This allows us to think twice before we overreact and choose a more mature response to a situation that frustrates us, for example.

If the Adult is not strong enough to counterbalance the impulses of the Child, an internal power struggle ensues. This is when we know we "should" resist that ice cream or that sale, but somehow can't bring ourselves to say no. Sometimes we need to let go and treat ourselves, but if the consequences lead to bigger problems then that's not so good.

If our childhood experience of adults was uncomfortable or even traumatic, this greatly complicates our ability to develop a health Inner Adult. Why? Because when we try to be an Adult to our Inner Child, we tend to react to ourselves the same way we did to the adults in our early years. That reaction may involve distrust, fear, rage or defiance, which makes it very difficult for our Inner Adult to know how to make grown-up and effective decisions.

When an angry, disappointed or fearful Inner Child rules our lives and overpowers our Inner Adult, we are likely to encounter much difficulty in life. It takes a strong Saturn (Inner Adult) to deal effectively with the outside world. And if our Moon (Inner Child) is running the show and carries a lot of baggage from unresolved past hurts, this makes it very hard to navigate the Saturnian world.

This New Moon in Cancer offers a chance to work with and work through these issues. If you have achieved a healthy balance between the Inner Child and the Inner Adult, this lunar cycle gives you a chance to fine-tune or refresh that balance. You might also find you're able to move beyond it to become more proactive in how you deal with your own and others' Inner Child needs and behaviour.

If you are struggling with that Child/Adult balance within yourself (or even between yourself and someone else), this lunar cycle brings you a chance to make some progress in your development.

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.
The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.
~ Fred Rogers

Stellium in Cancer
Grand Trine in Water signs

Let's start with the Stellium in Cancer: Mercury, Sun, Moon and Venus, all lined up like ducks in a row (top diagram, at left).

Add to this a Grand Trine in Water signs: Venus, Mars and Chiron (bottom diagram, at left). In general, all this Water tends to make us unusually sensitive and highly emotional.

If it seems like your feelings are welling up more than usual, this is probably the astrological reason why.

This can also be a very creative time, since your psyche is likely to seek out ways to express and reflect those feelings in an emotionally satisfying way.

Therefore: do things that speak to you on a feeling level. Sing! Listen to music. Dance. Draw, paint or do a collage. Go see a movie (but not one that depicts violence or cruelty). Cuddle, hug, hold hands and talk with those close to you about what you mean to each other.

Mercury in Cancer is likely to choose his words carefully in order to bring about a response from others that will be nurturing, supportive and caring. It may also help to be sensitive to the feelings of others in the way you speak and what you choose to say.

Venus in Cancer can potentially bring some very satisfying social interactions if they are with people you feel comfortable with. You might feel the urge to soothe others by nurturing them or being supportive, or perhaps you might wish they were more caring toward you.

I believe that words are strong,
that they can overwhelm what we fear
when fear seems more awful than life is good.
~ Andrew Solomon, The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression

Just when you thought everything was going to be all warm and fuzzy, along comes Pluto to crash the party by opposing (180°) the Cancer cuddle-fest. Pluto is not normally warm and fuzzy. Even when he's on his best behaviour, a hug from Pluto can feel a bit like being enveloped in Darth Vader's cape.

New Moon in Cancer opposite Pluto

The opposition from Pluto introduces a challenge or disruption to that sense of safety, warmth and security that Cancer craves. At its worst, Pluto can represent abandonment, cruelty, violation or domination. While this can be difficult for sensitive Cancer to deal with, it offers a valuable step in the journey of strengthening the Inner Adult to learn how to protect and support the hurting Inner Child.

Pluto can also bring endings that lead to new beginnings, and as such the Pluto process can guide you through and beyond suffering, out into a rebirth. Although not often described as a pleasant experience, this can lead to better times where you can start to rebuild after a crisis.

To learn which questions are unanswerable, and not to answer them: this skill is most needful
in times of stress and darkness.
~ Ursula K. Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness

The closest and warmest aspect to the Cancer planets in the New Moon chart is a trine from Neptune (120°). At its best, this can bring a sense of hope, faith and vision to Cancer's creative imagination. In the midst of Pluto's challenge to face and deal with the harsh aspects of life, Neptune reminds us that there are still sweet moments and even miracles that can occur every day in that life. Even when you think things are at their darkest, that's often when the dawn begins.

Learning Triangle aspect pattern

Saturn continues his square aspect to Neptune (90°) which complicates Neptune's message of peace and love. Saturn is also in quincunx aspect to the New Moon (150°) which can also obscure Cancer's vision of a safer and more satisfying life. And since Saturn is Pluto's dispositor (Saturn rules Capricorn, where Pluto resides), this awkwardness is transmitted to Pluto who dutifully integrates it into his own agenda.

Saturn, Neptune and the Sun and Moon together form what Huber astrology calls a Dominant Learning Triangle. A struggle or conflict emerges in the Saturn-Neptune square (90°). This creates a need for fresh awareness and experimentation in the quincunx between Saturn and Sun-Moon (150°). This in turn can restore balance and harmony by lifting oneself out of a rut through the trine from Sun-Moon to Neptune (120°).

In this case, the experiential aspect of the situation is where the rubber meets the road. Paying attention to what you feel, what you're moved to do, how you're compelled to react to what's happening – that's where you'll find the greatest impetus. That doesn't mean necessarily acting on these, but your observation and awareness of these can position you more firmly in the driver's seat where you can choose your best response.

This whole web of intrigue could play out as a struggle between a belief in something good coming out of difficulty, which must be taken on faith since there isn't yet enough real proof that can guarantee certainty. This is unlikely to give much reassurance to that Cancer part of you.

You might see the potential for improvement or a happy ending (Neptune), yet there may not be much concrete evidence that it will definitely come about (Saturn). This could make it tricky (Pluto) to know whether to keep going and trust that it will be okay, or to batten down the hatches and err on the side of caution.

Having faith in the process is essential, since nothing is likely to happen quickly (except maybe impulsive emotional reactions, which could only make things worse). Therefore, you may have to endure a kind of "dark night of the soul" as you walk through the enchanted forest, uncertain if the trees will define or obscure your path through to the light.

Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase.
~ Martin Luther King Jr.

It is essential to maintain a sense of hope and faith in the process. The trick is to maintain a middle ground somewhere between blind faith and cynicism, where you can remember that both good things and problems can happen. Be ready to work with both.

To do that takes a strong Inner Adult. The New Moon in Cancer offers a chance to learn how to parent yourself in a better way. For example, how do you treat yourself when you feel scared or uncertain? Do you get mad at yourself and feel you "should" have been able to avoid the problem? Do you berate yourself for being weak? Do you react with blame toward who or whatever you feel is responsible for your predicament? Do you blame yourself for not being able to control your life better to avoid problems?

These are all human responses – probably no one can avoid them entirely. The difference between an Inner Child and an Inner Adult response is whether you get stuck in that feeling of being overwhelmed and powerless, or whether you are able to find your inner strength and respond in a way that simply deals with the situation at hand.

At worst, the Inner Child may feel victimized, weak, helpless or preyed upon. The Child's reaction might be depression, blame, shame, rage or even hatred. Can your Inner Adult be empathetic, understanding and receptive, and lovingly listen to those tender feelings? The aim is to respond to the situation in a more level-headed way that won't create more problems than it solves.

If you are already able to do that, this New Moon could bring an opportunity to stretch that compassion and understanding further to include who or whatever is the source of your grief. And even further to the ability to respond in a nurturing way even to those who are reacting to you from their wounded Inner Child. Nurturing doesn't mean putting up with abusive behaviour, but rather to remember that you can decide whether or not their accusations are valid to you and how you want to deal with that.

Our world needs more love. Let it begin with you and unfold outward to the world around you.

Fear behind you,
Life before you,
Faith befriend you,
Prayer becalm you,
Truth be with you,
Love become you,
God be in you.
(This be for you. Repeat until chanting for others; then begin again.)

Jul.05 – Mercury trine Neptune (11:55 of Cancer/Pisces)

Your mind is very open to imagination, dreams and compassion under this transit. This can be a very creative time, when ideas flow like a magical river. It can also be easy to get caught up in yearning and fantasizing about your hidden wishes, although it is possible to channel this into creative expression. (e.g., writing poetry, dancing, wistful music, singing in the shower, whatever!) Listening sympathetically to others' problems may come easily now, and you are more likely to get a compassionate response from others about your own problems. However, it may also be difficult to draw clear and firm boundaries with others, since you are more susceptible to the emotional gravity of others. It is ultimately a time for optimism, hope, creativity and intuition, although it's wise to keep at least one foot on the ground.

Jul.06 – Venus trine Mars (23:22 of Cancer/Scorpio)  (Jul.08 in AU)

It will be a lot easier to balance assertiveness with receptivity under this transit. In fact, it is a great time to take firm action that requires a sensitive touch, and to negotiate agreements in a way that is diplomatic, fair and powerful. Your ability to attract what you desire (money, love, pleasure, flirting, etc.), and to act on those desires, is strong right now, so use it wisely. This may include romantic attraction and sexual interaction, or it might involve artistic creativity. It could also be a time when your actions attract money and possessions, but it could also go the other way – your spending may also increase! Again: use this energy wisely and don't overextend yourself, but do have fun with it!

Jul.06 – Sun conjunct Mercury (15:27 of Cancer)  (Jul.07 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

During this transit, your sense of self and purpose can become merged with what you think, perceive and say. On one hand, this can make for an easy flow of ideas and communication from inside your brain to the external world. It can also increase your perceptions and observations of the world, as you file it all away in your internal database. On the other hand, you may find yourself a bit tongue-tied, as it could be hard to separate your sense of self from your perceptions and ideas enough to find the words to adequately express them. In that case, just observe and go with the flow; the words will come later. It can also be a time when it's not easy to be objective, especially about yourself and how you bring yourself to the world around you. It's like your Being automatically expresses and sets into motion the things you think, perceive and want to say. This can help you to feel like your sense of self is shining effortlessly, but if your thoughts and perceptions are in conflict with other parts of you (e.g., emotions, needs, objectivity) then it might become a time when you act a little too quickly with blinders on. Strive for balance and self-honesty before you act.

Jul.07 – Mercury opposite Pluto (16:13 of Cancer/Capricorn)

This transit brings powerful words and ideas! They require you to strike a balance between personal perceptions and trans-personal implications. Your communication can be more penetrating, forceful or persistent than usual now, and a little will go a long way, so use this ability sparingly and carefully. In the same way, the words and perceptions of others may have a deeper and stronger impact on you than they normally do. This could be a mixed blessing – you may discover some profound insight and psychological truth in what others say to you, but you might also be receiving their unconscious projections too (meaning their perceptions and feedback might say more about them than about you). Deep self-honesty can help you decide what is true and what is being distorted. Avoid reacting on "automatic pilot" and give yourself some mental and psychological breathing room to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

Jul.07 – Venus square Uranus (24:18 of Cancer/Aries)  (Jul.08 in AU)

Under this transit, you may be tempted by impulse spending, or you might be somewhat erratic in your use of resources. This can result in unpredictable or unstable finances, so double check your bank accounts and credit cards before you draw on them. It is also a time when the way you relate to others (or they to you) could be somewhat inconsistent, fickle or impulsive. If your relationships or financial situation have been struggling with difficulties for a while, this transit could bring a lingering problem to the surface and require attention. On one hand, this could be a welcome breath of fresh air that cuts through the complexity of your problems and puts the cards on the table (despite the stress and conflict that likely triggered it). Or, you might feel resistance to making these changes and instead experience this as a time of unwelcome instability, upset and adjustment. However, this may be a good way to break free of excessive restraint, control or structure, which allows new possibilities to emerge that couldn't do so otherwise.

Jul.07 – Sun opposite Pluto (16:12 of Cancer/Capricorn)  (Jul.08 in AU)

Who owns the power? This is a time when you may be called upon to stand up to a situation or person who pressures you to dance to their tune instead of your own. This is a chance to assert and empower yourself in new ways, putting into practice the inner strength you've developed in the last 6 months. The trick is to face the situation or person while rooted in inner honesty and authenticity, rather than trying to annihilate the enemy using overkill. Strive to negotiate (or struggle) together using just enough force to establish a workable balance of power, without either of you being nuked in the process. Also, be open to the possibility that your "opponent" might be holding up a mirror, which is showing you something about yourself that you may not want to acknowledge. That doesn't necessarily make your opponent right and you wrong, but there might be something for you to learn from the situation. If you are in a situation that doesn't involve an "opponent" as such, there may still be an aspect of your environment that is holding up a difficult mirror, requiring you to find a more centred and authentic point of inner power. It is by finding new balance within this kind of dynamic, whatever the circumstances, that transformation can be found.

Jul.08 – Venus trine Chiron (25:11 of Camcer/Pisces)  (Jul.07 in HAST, AKDT)

Healing and rebalancing are possible now, especially in the areas of relationships, finance, resources and values. Any problems that have persisted in these areas lately could benefit from an influx of helpful and healing resources now. Relationships and interactions of all kinds can benefit now, since it can be easier to see the beauty and value in others whom you might usually dislike or feel ill at ease with (or they with you). Negotiations and strategic efforts to resolve conflicts may go smoothly now, especially when you balance the results in everyone's interests. You may also be able to attract what you need to heal your wounds (physical, psychological, spiritual, etc.). Like it says in the "Serenity Prayer," you may now find it a bit easier to accept that which you cannot change, while finding you make progress with the things you can.

Jul.08 – Mercury sextile Jupiter (18:07 of Cancer/Virgo)  (Jul.07 in HAST)

You may have an abundance of ideas and words to express them under this transit. There is the potential (if you reach for it) to put ideas, facts and thoughts together into a cohesive whole. You may find you can understand the overall patterns in a situation, or you are able to see the Big Picture, better than usual. New insights and a change of perspective may abound, as your stream of consciousness flows abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. You may find yourself more talkative than usual, as you try to share and convey the new ideas, inspiration and knowledge coming into your mind. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. There is a chance that you may be so elated and confident that you might come across as a bit overbearing or even as a "know-it-all," so be sure to listen too.

Jul.09 – Mercury returns from Out of Bounds (20:37 of Cancer; remains in-bounds until Nov.18)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mercury has been Out of Bounds (OOB) since Jun.28 and now returns within the bounds of the Sun's declination. An in-bounds Mercury is generally easier to work with, where your thoughts, ideas and awareness works more constructively with the world around you. You might find you have new ideas picked up while Mercury was OOB that you now are able to put into practice. If you've felt somewhat liberated by the OOB period, it might be a bit uncomfortable to feel simply "normal" again. On the other hand, if you were feeling a bit ungrounded or out of focus during Mercury's OOB period, coming back in-bounds could feel somewhat reassuring as your brain may find it easier to grapple with ideas and process experiences. Words and thoughts might fit more comfortably into what society regards as "normal" and as such, life may start to feel a bit easier to navigate.

Jul.10 – Sun sextile Jupiter (18:24 of Cancer/Virgo)  (Jul.07 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT)

This is a time when your understanding of the Big Picture and your place within it has the potential to click into place. As a result, your confidence and self-esteem can be quite high right now. Your ability to see opportunities and possibilities more clearly can produce an experience of being "lucky." Your insight into life and the world around you may be especially bright, optimistic and inspired. This is a "feel-good" transit, when your sense of self can seem to expand and become free. You may feel especially connected to spiritual energy during this time. Just be careful that all this self-assurance and "knowing" doesn't backfire, by overestimating the extent of your knowledge or underestimating the reaction of your audience. It is possible to become a bit self-indulgent under this transit, so be careful not to overdo it. Beyond a reasonable caution, this is a transit to enjoy!

Jul.10 – Mercury trine Mars (23:53 of Cancer/Scorpio)  (Jul.11 in UK, AU)

It may be easy to find the courage to speak your mind and say what needs to be said under this transit. In fact, your ideas and words may come so quickly and easily that it's hard to stop them from tumbling out of your mouth before you've had a chance to evaluate the best way to say them. Your communication is likely to be direct, concise and right on the mark, even if it might also be a bit blunt or pointed. If you need to confront someone about a difficult situation, this transit can provide courage and clear words to help you do that – although perhaps not as good for a situation requiring a more delicate, sensitive touch. It is a time when you could potentially find the nerve to take risks, or to defend yourself if the need arises (especially verbally). Overall, this is a wonderful transit for anything involving direct communication (e.g., public speaking, writing, debating), as well as mental agility (e.g., generating ideas, finding solutions, making decisions).

Jul.11 – Mercury square Uranus (24:22 of Cancer/Aries)  (Jul.10 in HAST, AKDT)

Flashes of insight can show you new clarity but you might not like the answers you get, since they could disturb your logical perception of what's what. You might get some news or learn come information that shakes you up in some way. This isn't necessarily bad, since this may be necessary to open your mind to something you've been resisting. There's a Higher Truth here that wants to be told (by you or to you), but the way it's phrased can make a big difference in the reaction. There is a risk of "shooting off your mouth before your brains are loaded," as the saying goes, and impulsive or reckless communication and ideas could create more problems than they solve. It will probably help to listen inside yourself first to discover what you really need to say, and then figure out how to say it in a way that doesn't cause unnecessary damage. Strive to shine a light of truth without blinding anyone with it.

Jul.11 – Mercury trine Chiron (25:09 of Cancer/Pisces)  (Jul.12 in UK, AU)

Your mental focus and communication now get an injection of healing energy. Cynicism and depression may soften now, as you become more receptive to a more optimistic viewpoint. If you have been caught up in escapism or "stinkin' thinkin'" (thinking you're more in control of your impulses than you really are), you may now find some relief and healing. Mental argument and critical "self-talk" can now find some reconciliation and acceptance that brings some peace of mind. You have increased ability to find the right words and understanding to help others with their problems. Compassion and empathy may be more accessible because you can identify your own experiences with what you see in others. You might also find someone who can give you good advice or support about your own problems – possibly a teacher or mentor – or you could become this to someone else.

Jul.12 – Venus enters Leo (until Aug.05)  (Jul.11 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT)

This can be a very creative time, as Venus' love of beauty combines with Leo's creative flair for the dramatic. Find ways to feel good by making your surroundings and yourself beautiful and reflective of your inner spirit! High fashion and vogue style are "in," and crudeness and ordinariness are out...unless you want to turn them into a fashion statement. ;-) However, it's probably wise not to become so identified with the outer appearance of yourself or others that you lose sight of the person, situation or context that it's all happening in. The aim is to pamper yourself with pleasures that enhance your quality of life, without inflating your ego with synthetic self-esteem and glamour without substance. Relationships, interaction, finances, values and resources all need to include ways to express your identity, valour and "heart." Some light-hearted fun and play can be a good place to start.

Jul.13 – Mercury enters Leo (until Jul.30)  (Jul.14 in UK, AU)

While Mercury struts through Leo, your creativity and self-expression are flying high! Your communication strives to express more than just facts or information – it wants to convey the dramatic energy that tells a story in larger-than-life proportions! How you perceive and experience life right now can be vivid, dramatic and fun, as you pick up more easily on the expressive and "feel-good" elements of what's happening around you. You may become very creative, inspired and motivated during this time. The downside is that it may also easier to indulge in a mindset that is self-serving, egotistical or overconfident. Your motives are likely to be noble, heroic and full of good intentions, but you could also become so in love with your vision of what's possible that you miss valid criticism or drawbacks. This is a time to enjoy the playful delights of sports, games, humor, fun and children.

Jul.16 – Sun square Uranus (24:26 of Cancer/Aries)

Your world may experience a bit of a shake-up right now, as the Universe decides it's time to make things "interesting." This is a wake-up call, designed to loosen you up from the ways you have become too habitual, stuck or inhibited. The "radical rascal" in you may be itching to come out and stir up trouble, which on one hand might be necessary but also very disruptive and possibly even destructive. Be alert to new insights and opportunities disguised as accidents or crises. Your usual sense of self and purpose may become somewhat unsettled right now, but a space is likely being cleared to make room for new growth and possibilities. If you're looking to break old habits or break free of old restrictions, this may be the time – but it could create a mess that you'll have to clean up later. Resist the urge to rebel just for the sake of doing something different, and aim instead to break free of old forms of self-expression and ideals that don’t work for you anymore. Expect the unexpected and then surf the shock-wave.

Jul.16 – Mercury conjunct Venus (05:45 of Leo)  (Jul.17 in AU)

Social connections, diplomatic communication and receptive awareness mark this transit. It can be a great time to negotiate contracts or agreements because the communication can usually flow easily. Focus your awareness on achieving a mutual balance between you and the other person. A win-win solution is especially easy to achieve now – so much so, in fact, that it might be tempting to only say what you think the other person wants to hear (which may or may not be wise). This can also be a time of appreciating and expressing beauty, pleasure and sensuality. If there's someone you want to get closer to (in terms of romance, friendship, business, partnership, or even an adversary!), talking gently and listening receptively can be the key that unlocks the door. You may also get new creative ideas from your interactions with people or from observing them.

Jul.16 – Sun trine Mars (25:00 of Cancer/Scorpio)  (Jul.17 in ADT, NDT, UK, AU)

Your energy, purpose, vitality and health are likely to be strong and clear during this transit. Your sense of purpose is supported by your ability to assert yourself and take a stand for what you want and what you believe in. In general, this transit is a great time to take action, especially if you have prepared the way and have all your ducks in a row. If you've been waiting for a spurt of self-confidence or motivation, this transit could give you the push you need to move forward in your plans or goals. Strive to be spontaneous rather than impulsive, and confident rather than arrogant.

Jul.17 – Sun trine Chiron (25:04 of Cancer/Pisces)  (Jul.16 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT)

This is a time when you may find that your recent efforts to mend and heal the chronic struggles in your life start to come together. You likely have the confidence now to try new solutions, or at least to approach problems from a different angle that sheds new light on the situation. Some of this progress may come from daring to walk your own path, or from finding the courage to face the hidden shadow of your worries and weaknesses (the hidden benefit that those worries give you). There may be a variety of different struggles and wounds in your life that could benefit from this kind of healing, although it can be tempting to let this transit pass by without taking advantage of it. Strive to reach a midpoint between merely dipping your toe in troubled waters and thinking that is enough, versus jumping in the deep end and marinating in it.

Jul.17 – Mars trine Chiron (25:04 of Scorpio/Pisces)

The healing of assertive energy and willpower mark this transit. It is bound to be easier to get past any inhibition you might normally feel about being assertive, expressing frustration and anger, and putting things into action. Perhaps you are able to reconcile some internal guilt or fear that has held you back in the past. Or, maybe you are finally able to reach a state of acceptance or resolution that allows you to move beyond a conflict or struggle that has been keeping you stuck. Applying your willpower to problems has a better chance of succeeding now because you're likely to be more attuned to the path that leads to peace rather than more conflict. It's possible you might choose to use this energy in the defence of another person, a cause or something else you feel passionately about. It's possible to focus your energy, intent, motives and actions in ways that are healing, healthy, balanced and constructive.

Jul.19 – Mercury trine Saturn (10:16 of Leo/Sagittarius)  (Jul.18 in HAST, AKDT, PDT)

It can be easier to take a logical, practical approach to problem-solving and pursuit of your goals now. Your mental outlook is likely to be calm and grounded. This is a good time to make plans and work out the logistics of how you're going to get from "here" to "there" in pursuing your goals. You may find it's time to bring closure to finished goals by distilling and systemizing what you've learned in the process of pursuing those past goals. Or, you might find you are able to draw on past achievements to assist and support your current goals and plans. It is a good transit to bring structure to your thoughts and communication. You may find it's a little easier to accept authority – yours or someone else's – and that you are able to speak authoritatively about things about which you have knowledge or experience.
