There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:

Full Moon in Taurus November 2016 ~ Treasure

The Full Moon occurs at 13:52 (UT) on the 14th November 2016 at 22°Ta37'. (Other local times are in the sidebar.) This Moon is a supermoon ("What is a supermoon?") and is the closest the Moon has been to Earth for 68 years. The close proximity of our satellite seems to highlight its energies, magnifying them, so that we can get up close and personal to this tactile Taurus Moon.

This lunation sets the Taurus Full Moon against the Scorpio Sun. In the dark waters of Scorpio we're compelled to look below the surface, probe taboos and search for truths. In these secret places, distrust breeds as fast as our fears. Ruled by Pluto, Scorpio is conscious of the concept of power, specifically who has it and who doesn't. Scorpio also relates to sex, the little death, the 'I'll die if I don't have them' extremes that love and lust can take us to. Taurus however doesn't bat an eyelid. It's blissfully happy with a roll in the hay followed by a fine meal or vice versa. Emotionally we need a break from the maelstrom of complex Scorpio and to create some stability and simplicity through Taurus.

Slow down. Stop and smell the roses. Get grounded and real. With pleasure loving Venus as ruler of Taurus, indulge your senses by stimulating them with sights, scents, tastes and sounds. Pay attention to how your body feels and let it have a little of what it fancies – yes, chocolate cake is allowed!

During this Full Moon, it's time to consider what you hold most dear, what really matters to you. Even with the opposing Sun in Scorpio spotlighting the profound transformation we are going through, this is a time when we can relinquish control and simply surrender to the moment, especially as the Moon is trine to Pluto. We're empowered when we enjoy the present, neither mourning the past nor dreading the future. We're stronger when we let go of the toxic need to be drawn into intrigues and power plays. This Moon is a leveller that brings us home to ourselves and our physical body. The world out there can wait says Taurus. Be patient. Reconnect with Mother Earth.

Black Moon Lilith is conjunct the Sun which means there are still old ghosts stirring in the psyche. The Taurus Moon can see them but isn't going to get scared off the playing field. This Moon knows that the more grounded we are in reality, the easier it is to deal with our fears, turning them into raw, creative potential.

The child-like, sensitive Moon is exalted in comfortable Taurus. Sometimes the best thing we can do is nurture ourselves with good home-cooked food and a pair of fluffy slippers. Whilst there's a place for the deep psycho-analysis of Scorpio, there is also the need to be able to support ourselves through practical means. All the naval gazing in the world won't put food on the table and pay the gas bill. These are the things that Taurus is concerned with – the simple aspects of life that make the difference in whether we survive or whether we thrive.

At this lunation, consider what you need in order to bring more stability in your life. The Moon's sextile to Chiron suggests that healing comes from building a sense of security, both financially and emotionally. Organise your finances and do your accounts. Look at what resources you have available to you. Is your self esteem at a healthy level or could it do with some healing work? Low self esteem can generate poverty consciousness as well as a sore bank balance. Taurus reminds us that the Earth is abundant. Security starts from within.

Venus, the ruler of this lunation is technically unaspected as she makes no major Ptolemic aspects to any of the other planets. This makes her energy a little harder to reach so it's important to make the effort to appreciate what we have. Gratitude is key to our evolution as Venus trines the North Node.

The ship of my life may or may not be sailing on calm and amiable seas. The challenging days of my existence may or may not be bright and promising. Stormy or sunny days, glorious or lonely nights, I maintain an attitude of gratitude. If I insist on being pessimistic, there is always tomorrow.
Today I am blessed.
~ Maya Angelou

Nov.15 – Mercury sextile Mars (04:46 of Sagittarius/Aquarius)  (Nov.16 in AU)

There is a potential now to find the courage to speak your mind and say what needs to be said, if you focus consciously on doing so. In fact, your ideas and words may come so quickly and easily that it's hard to stop them from tumbling out of your mouth before you've had a chance to evaluate the best way to say them. Communication is probably easiest and most effective when it's direct, concise and quick, although it might also be a bit blunt or pointed. If you need to confront someone about a difficult situation, this transit can provide courage and clear words to help you do that – although perhaps a bit too forceful when a more delicate, sensitive touch is called for. It is a time when you might find the nerve to take risks, or to defend yourself if the need arises (especially verbally). This is a good transit for creative problem solving and trying on decisions to see if they fit.

Nov.17 – Neptune opposite North Lunar Node (09:14 of Pisces/Virgo)  (Nov.18 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Both Neptune and the Lunar Nodes move pretty slowly, so this transit is actually in effect for weeks or months before and after the exact date. This date represents the peak or turning point of the Neptune-Node process. In this case, Neptune is opposite the North Node, and therefore also conjunct the South Node, which is a place of letting go and shedding that which no longer serves a constructive purpose in our lives. It can also be a place where, rather than deconnecting from something, we simply take something that has been in the foreground of our awareness or our life and assimilate it into the background. We no longer need it to occupy the forground of our lives, but can "move it to the back burner" so that we can now focus on other things.

The kind of Neptune issues that you might need to let go of are illusions, deceit, your blind spot, unconscious beliefs, hypersensitivity or insanity. These may have previously helped you get through a difficult time, but are now getting in the way of you being able to move forward in the healing process. Other Neptune themes include music, art, imagination, clairvoyance, introspection or seclusion. These might not be a problem, so much as it's just time to move on to something else.

The thing about letting something go is that it often gets worse before it gets better. As you start to detach from it, you start to feel the loss of it, and depending on how attached you are to it (or what it reflects about who you see yourself as), this process could be rather difficult. If you have much of your identity invested in whatever you're detaching from, at its worst it could feel like you are losing your sense of yourself. It tends to leave a hole in your life where the old thing was, leaving you feeling somewhat empty inside. However, at its best it can also feel liberating, renewing and redeeming; washed clean of your flaws. In this case, letting go of one thing leaves room for something new and perhaps more fulfilling to take its place.

Neptune opposes the South Node in 1932, 1949, 1966, 1983, 2000, 2016, 2033, 2050 and 2066.

Nov.18 – Mercury goes Out of Bounds (08:34 Sagittarius to 14:54 Capricorn; OOB until Dec.17)  (Nov.17 in HAST, AKST, PST, MST, CST)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mercury goes Out of Bounds (OOB), giving us a chance to peek into ideas and observations beyond our usual thoughts, awareness and comfort zone. The "air up there" can be a bit rarefied. If you're not used to it (and even if you are), your thoughts might seem almost a bit drunk, confused, inspired or flowing so freely that it's hard to capture them clearly. If you do catch one of these thoughts clearly, remember that it's an idea, not necessarily reality, even though you could use it to create a new reality for yourself. Your mental peripheral vision can become expanded, taking in more information than usual. You may have a chance to manifest it more clearly when Mercury returns from "outer space."

Like all things in astrology and life, this has its upside and its downside. Much depends on which thoughts you feed and what you feed them with. If you consume fear, suspicion, anger or hostility, you could find yourself feeling a bit paranoid, easily angered, or looking for ways to cheat in order to avoid anticipated negativity. On the upside, you may discover a fresh understanding about things, putting new pieces of the puzzle into place and tapping into a higher level of truth and insight. Try writing down your ideas, perceptions, thoughts and moods. After Mercury comes back down to earth, you can see how you can put those observations and ideas to good use.

Nov.18 – Mercury square North Lunar Node (09:10 of Sagittarius/Virgo)  (Nov.19 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Under this transit, you might find you need to, or are compelled to, change your mind about where you are heading in your life. You could be confronted with facts or information that contradicts what you thought was real or true about your sense of life purpose, or it might seem like someone is getting in your way. You may be tempted to dismiss this, deny it, avoid it or rationalize your way around it. However, there is probably valuable information coming to you that is important to take into consideration. It doesn't necessarily mean your life destination should be abandoned; rather, you are challenged to see it more clearly. You might also need to communicate information or a point of view that could be unwelcome or unpopular, or difficult to get your point across. In that case, try not to go overboard in standing your ground and focus primarily on what needs to be said and the best way to say it.

Nov.18 – Mercury square Neptune (09:14 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Nov.19 in AU)

Your mental focus may be a bit clouded, confused or lethargic right now, as your conscious mind struggles to grasp the formless, limitless expanse of the Universe and the unconscious. You may experience some disillusionment or disappointment, in your observations or communication with others. However, what is flowing under the surface of events right now is the need to dissolve away the crust of old expectations that blocks your view from seeing a greater Truth. If you're feeling off-balance, try to listen more than you talk, so that you can be receptive to your inner sensitivity. Left-brain analysis might be difficult to work with right now unless you balance it with a lot of right-brain intuition. You may have to let go of a rigid mindset, or give up what you think you understand about a situation in your life, in order to open yourself to a new perspective that is difficult to define but is ultimately in the best interest of your spiritual growth.

Nov.19 – Venus trine North Lunar Node (09:06 of Capricorn/Virgo)  (Nov.20 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Today, as well as up to a couple of days before and after, you may feel a bit more comfortable in your own skin and in the social world around you. In fact, interactions you have with others may prove fruitful to help you move further along your path toward whatever destination you're pointed in. You might be in a position to do this for someone else, as well. It may be a good time to spend or save money and other resources. However, it's still wise to do a reality check to make sure both side of the exchange are satisfied that you got as much as you gave.

Nov.19 – Venus sextile Neptune (09:14 of Capricorn/Pisces)  (Nov.20 in AU)

Artistry, romance, creativity and faith have the potential to flow freely now. Your creative Muse is whispering in your ear, although it will still take your own elbow grease to turn it into something real. Socially and romantically, things could run smoothly and even a bit magically, so be sure you are clear in yourself about what you really want. This can be a time of blessings and abundance (in all areas of life) ...but there is also the risk of overspending and being overly optimistic in your assumptions about money and relationships. Your natural beauty and warmth can be brought out by this transit, but don't just waste it on creating a façade of outer glamour and charm. Let the essence of your inner beauty and pure spirit shine through your appearance and mannerisms!

Nov.19 – Neptune Stationary Direct (19:14 of Pisces; until Jun.16.2017)  (Nov.20 in AST, NST, UK, AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

Neptune now turns direct after being retrograde for about 5 months. For up to a week before and after this date, you might feel a bit dreamy, disconnected, depressed, sluggish or scatter-brained. The Neptune energy takes you into a non-rational, intuitive place and can stir up feelings and issues from the unconscious. Vivid dreams could give you insight into situations you have been wrestling with, and your intuitive sensitivity might seem to come out of nowhere. Or you might experience the opposite—your dreams elude you and you feel cut off from your usual intuitive sense. What is happening is that your "right-brain" (intuitive, creative, non-rational, faith-oriented) is passing the torch to your "left-brain" (rational, logical, linear, practical), and you can get caught in the whirlpool of transition. Try not to control the process, but allow it to carry you and point you in a different direction. The learning you have gathered over the last five months or so—related to spirituality, longing, inspiration, creativity, imagination, fantasy, divination and intuition—can now start to be applied more directly in your life over the next few months. It may be possible to channel your experience into a creative form—possibly artistic, but definitely creating something new out of what has been, which can ultimately be healing and uplifting.

Nov.21 – Sun enters Sagittarius (until Dec.21)  (Nov.22 in AU)

Happy Solar Return to all Sagittarians! While the Sun is in Sagittarius, we all get to explore our horizons, seek our highest truth, discover our spirituality and gain fresh wisdom. Sagittarius energy encourages us to reach beyond our grasp, to exceed our limitations, and to rise above our primal impulses. Whether we are encountering other cultures, countries and languages, or expanding our horizons through new knowledge or spiritual awareness, this is a time to be uplifted and inspired. We are challenged to explore meaning in our lives and to connect with whatever we regard as sacred and sublime. In Sagittarius we also gather new knowledge and understanding, making sense of the patterns and themes within the raw information around us. It is not enough to simply have facts and data. Sagittarius presents us with the opportunity to reach for the highest truth we know, and then to exercise that truth in moral and ethical ways. The trap we must be careful to avoid is that it's easy to assume that our truth is truth for everyone else too, which is not necessarily the case. Our well-meaning wish for others to experience the inspiration and passion that we feel can seem to turn us into self-righteousness know-it-alls. It's tempting to believe that we are privy to knowledge that others are denied. There can be a fine line between sharing passionate knowledge versus shoving opinions down someone's throat. Everyone has their unique perspective on life, and therefore their own sense of meaning and truth that works for them. And yet, debating and challenging each other's knowledge, beliefs and values are also an important part of the Sagittarius passion for exploration. As the Sun journeys through Sagittarius, expand your awareness of how these issues play out in your life.

Nov.22 – Mercury sextile Jupiter (15:23 of Sagittarius/Libra)  (Nov.23 in AU)

You may have an abundance of ideas and words to express them under this transit. There is the potential (if you reach for it) to put ideas, facts and thoughts together into a cohesive whole. You may find you can understand the overall patterns in a situation, or you are able to see the Big Picture, better than usual. New insights and a change of perspective may abound, as your stream of consciousness flows abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. You may find yourself more talkative than usual, as you try to share and convey the new ideas, inspiration and knowledge coming into your mind. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. There is a chance that you may be so elated and confident that you might come across as a bit overbearing or even as a "know-it-all," so be sure to listen too.

Nov.23 – Mercury conjunct Saturn (16:53 of Sagittarius)  (Nov.24 in AU)

It's time to take a serious look at the circumstances and situations in your life. This transit may not exactly be "party time" but it's a great transit to have when you need to take a dispassionate, objective, clear view of life. You may be called upon to make a decision about something. For example, you might need to commit yourself to a particular plan of action, or start developing plans toward a particular goal. In either case, it may be necessary to limit or let go of other options. You might come to the conclusion that something has run its course and it's time to leave it behind – like an opinion or project or mindset. It's a time when your perception, thoughts and words may not be exciting, imaginative or entertaining, but you're probably more able to be clear, grounded decisive and hard working.

Nov.24 – Jupiter square Pluto (15:46 of Libra/Capricorn)  (Nov.25 in AU)

Jupiter, the planet of justice and morality, and Pluto, the planet of intensity and power, are glaring suspiciously at each other, circling around and deciding if they should launch into full battle. At best, these two energies will come together to "fight the good fight" against a common enemy, whether that be an honourable principle or the behaviour of a more human adversary. At worst these planets could enter into warfare over the (perceived) tyranny of religious beliefs, the truth about controversial or ambiguous events, or the blame and judgment of enemies who you "just know" are in the wrong. Either way, this conflict might take place inside you, where different beliefs or attitudes are giving you mixed feelings about something, or you might find yourself at loggerheads with someone over differences of opinion. The key is to pick your battles and to do only what's necessary to achieve the result you want. The danger is that what starts out as a conviction to stand up on principle against something you believe is wrong could mushroom into a "scorched earth" crusade against the entire realm of villainy. Some objectivity, compassion and mercy will go a long way to ensure that everyone benefits from the peacetime that will hopefully come out of this.

This is the first of 3 passes of this transit: Nov.25.2017, Mar.30.2017 and Apr.04.2017. This is a long-term process that is just beginning to unfold. Pay attention not only to the events and encounters you have around this time (give or take a week or two), but also to identifying the underlying issues, themes, assumptions and feelings that come up for you as a result. These are likely to be what you need to work on over the coming 6 or 7 months. Recognizing them is the first step. Figuring out what you need to do about them (or with them) comes later, after you explore what your role is in the situation. It's not just about the other guy; it's also your response to what happens.

The first 2 passes of Jupiter square Pluto also bring back the Cardinal Square, as Jupiter clicks off the Uranus-Pluto square again. Although there are no more exact passes between Uranus and Pluto, their combined energies are still playing out. Jupiter brings them back into focus, which could stir up issues that also emerged 6 years ago (2010) when Jupiter conjoined Uranus and squared Pluto, and also 3 years ago (2013) when Jupiter squared Uranus and opposed Pluto. Now Jupiter will oppose Uranus (starting in December) and square Pluto (starting now).

You are now called upon to be more objective and observant about what/who you are reacting to and passing judgment on (or feeling judged by). The aim is also to become clearer about the ways you're feeling powerless and what you do to try to empower yourself. If that's working well for you, it can be a good time to take the next step so that it's more proactive and self-validating than defensive. If it's not working well, then this is an opportunity to understand the deeper reasons why. Results will be better the more you can avoid simply passing judgment on (what we perceive as) The Enemy, and seek instead to understand things from their point of view. It doesn't mean you have to agree with them, but to understand what it looks like from their point of view. Who knows, you might learn something... and that's kind of the point. (Read more about the Cardinal Square.)

Nov.25 – Venus conjunct Pluto (15:47 of Capricorn)

Intensity in love and close relationships can occur under this transit, as well as a compelling need to get more control over your finances and assets. This could manifest as power dynamics emerging in your interactions with others, in which you engage in a negotiation for a better balance of power that is more in your favour. Or, you might become somewhat obsessed with the pursuit of pleasure and beauty, possibly trying to compensate for a low sense of self-worth. Or, there can be a valuable opportunity to develop a deeper connection with those close to you. You might find it necessary to negotiate with others for financial support. You may have to dig deeper than usual to extract needed resources from hidden places (or to deposit them there, out of reach from others who want a piece of your hoard). Keep your integrity high and dry by being honest with yourself about the ethics of your actions.

Nov.25 – Venus square Jupiter (15:53 of Capricorn/Libra)  (Nov.26 in AU)

"Your eyes are bigger than your stomach" (as Mom used to say). That means you are more likely now to over-indulge, especially in the areas of relationships, spending, desires, pleasure and social contact. Your desire for fulfilment and satisfaction may exceed your resources, and you might not even realise it until the bill comes in later (probably under a Saturn transit ;-). You may also find you require more knowledge, understanding, faith, freedom or optimism than you have available, making it tempting to compensate by inflating what you really have. For example, you might want to resort to flattery, manipulation or over-optimism in an effort to make up for a lack of genuine confidence, rapport or preparation. However, this can also be a time when your creativity is running high and you are able to pull rabbits out of your hat on a moment's notice. The problem is that you could over-extend yourself by doing so.

Nov.26 – Mercury square Chiron (20:40 of Sagittarius/Pisces)  (Nov.25 in HAST, AKST)

Your mental focus and perceptions may feel a bit strained right now. You could find yourself locked in a struggle of indecision that stems from a "glass half empty" versus "glass half full" dilemma. It may be difficult to stay objective and evenly balanced in your perspective, but by working with this you could also find a new mental focus that gives you increased clarity. It might be tempting to sink into cynicism as a way to deal with what seems like a no-win situation. On the other hand, this transit could bring your mental perspective to a kind of "healing crisis" that forces you to get a better grip on the ideas, communication and frame of mind that have been problematic for you. Instead of reaching for extremes (hoping this will clarify the path in front of you), it will help more if you can take a few steps back to allow all the conflicting and out-of-sync elements to coexist together – creative paradox. If you have been in denial about something, this could be a turning point that allows you to grapple with the complex reality of your situation.

Nov.26 – Mercury trine Uranus (21:00 of Sagittarius/Aries)  (Nov.27 in AU)

Unusual ideas, flashes of insight and seeing unexpected possibilities are all part of this transit. You may find it easier to be open-minded right now, especially about insights that have eluded you. Your ability to see beyond your usual horizon of perception can bring visionary brainwaves, as well as a fun sense of humour. You might be inspired to experiment with something new or do something out of character. You might have an impulse to break free of old habits or constraints. This can be a very liberating transit that opens your mind to new possibilities and ideas. However, be careful that you don't become so liberated and spontaneous that you become erratic, hyper or reckless. Words may come tumbling out of your mouth before you've had a chance to consider their wisdom, or you might find yourself talking non-stop and interrupting, creating a bit of awkwardness in those around you. On the other hand, you might also find the clarity and vision that gives you the words to speak your truth with new conviction. It's a great time to do some writing or other form of self-expression, especially if it's spontaneous or involving technology.
