May.10 – FULL MOON in SCORPIO (20:24 of Scorpio)

If you believe the whispered rumours about Scorpio, you might think you should run screaming from the room when you encounter a Scorpionic person. ;-)

But remember that we all have Scorpio somewhere in our charts. We all have an 8th house (Scorpio's natural house). And we all have Mars and Pluto (Scorpio's ruling planets) somewhere in our charts. So by running away from this energy, we still bring Scorpio with us.

You can run but you can't hide... (Muahaha! ;-) )

Seriously though: the truth is Scorpio energy tends to scare us because it takes us into places within the human psyche that we often prefer to avoid. This energy can sometimes be heavy, overwhelming or intense. It can require us to summon our survival instincts, leading us to feel like we must be facing a life-threatening situation (even if it's not).

Indeed, these experiences can stir up strong primal feelings in us. And let's face it—most of us would rather sit back and enjoy the sunshine instead of wondering if we've landed in a Game of Thrones episode.

So yes, in many ways Scorpio is not for the faint of heart. But it doesn't have to be the Darth Vader of the zodiac either.

Scorpio challenges you to shine a light into your dark corners—you know, the places where the bogeyman hides and where angels fear to tread. This is the psychological shadow, where the secrets of our psyche lurk—our subconscious, our fears, our urges, our desires, our assumptions and beliefs, and the roots of what we project out onto the outside world.

Our Scorpio energy is at home in the subconscious where it seeks to explore all that we are: good, bad and otherwise. We often expect to find a horror movie in there—something so sinister and despicable that it would consume and define everything that we are.

We may think: never mind that we seek to do good in our lives, that we strive to be good people, or that we aim to strengthen our positive qualities. For many of us, our worst fear is that despite all of this, we are still terrible people underneath, and if we ever let the secret out, the world would abandon us or worse.

Many of us are haunted by the private fear that the worst parts of us are actually who we really are. And we spend a large amount of our energy trying to outrun that tidal wave of shame.

"All through my life I've had this strange unaccountable feeling that something was going on in the world, something big, even sinister, and no one would tell me what it was."

"No," said the old man, "that's just perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the Universe has that."
~ Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The truth is we are all a diverse spectrum of good, bad and everything in between. Every one of us has done some bad things at some point in their life, and we have also done good things. No one is 100% evil and no one is 100% perfect. Everyone is here to do the best they can in becoming the best person they can be. And unless you're a serial killer or something equally depraved, you're probably not as bad as you fear you are.

In addition, what is judged as good or bad is to some extent a matter of interpretation which varies widely from one culture to another. Therefore, what you might think makes you a bad person could be more of a relative cultural view than an absolute measuring stick. Examples of cultural differences include everything from simple etiquette to cannibalism. (Not that I'm endorsing cannibalism, so please leave your knife and fork at home when you come to visit. ;-)

What might be seen as "bad" traits of Scorpio also have a "good" side. It depends on the context in which it's happening. On the "bad" side, Scorpio is seen as intense, secretive, controlling, stubborn, relentless, tenacious or blunt. But these qualities have a beneficial side when you remove the negative judgment and utilize them in a positive way.

So: intensity can also be heartfelt passion. Secretiveness implies a person who can also be discreet and keep the secrets of others. Controlling could also be someone who is independent and defines/controls their own boundaries. Someone who is stubborn or relentless is also determined, dedicated and doesn't give up easily. Tenacity also describes Scorpio's sense of loyalty. And being blunt shows a kind of honesty that, if done with caring and insight, also shows the ability to be forthright and say what needs to be said.

Scorpio knows that it doesn't matter how tall the tree grows out in the light—if it isn't well-rooted in the darkness, far below the surface, it won't last very long in inclement weather. In the same way, the Scorpio process is about expanding your roots of awareness deep into your unconscious shadow, and in so doing you strengthen and stabilize the You that flourishes and interacts with the world.

Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we'd be truly dead.
~ Joss Whedon

The chart of the Full Moon in Scorpio looks a bit disjointed or understated at first, but as we peer beyond the surface it will give up its secrets. Let's start with the Sun-Moon opposition (which is the definition of a Full Moon). They have very few aspects to other planets in the chart, which makes that Scorpio energy a bit subtle or obscure to tap into.

The most major aspects involve Pluto, and in fact, Pluto forms a Wedge aspect pattern with the Sun and Moon. There is tension and conflict inherent in any opposition aspect (between the Sun and Moon, in this case), which can polarize the planetary energies into extremes if allowed to get too far out of balance.

The apex planet (Pluto, in this case) creates a triangle using a trine aspect (120°) to one side of the opposition and a sextile (60°) to the other. Since these are easy-going aspects, it's like the apex planet is friends with both of the opposed, conflicted planets and can therefore mediate the stress between them. On the other hand, it could also provide an escape mechanism that enables you to avoid dealing with the stress of the opposition.

Wedge aspect pattern: Sun, Moon, Pluto

Pluto in this case understands the needs of the Scorpio Moon, since it is a ruling planet of Scorpio (using modern rulerships). He can support the Moon as she braves the Scorpio underworld because he knows the territory. Pluto can also be friendly with the Sun in Taurus, assuring the Sun that hidden resources and riches (Pluto's specialty) can be worth as much as those that are obvious and tangible (Taurus' specialty).

In other words, Pluto can help the Scorpio intensity and passion work for you, rather than you feeling like you have to work against it or resist it. Pluto does this best through empowerment—which is very different from wielding power over people and situations.

Therefore, this is a good time to reach inside yourself and tap into your inner power—the internal grit that can deal with an daunting situation through being centered inside yourself rather than dominating what is outside of you. This is the kind of power that is grounded enough that it doesn't require others to be disempowered in order to feel resilient.

This is also be a good time to listen to your deep intuition, both for hints about the true nature of a situation or person, and to increase your own self-awareness. Pluto might take you into that intuition a little faster and more forcefully than you're comfortable with (he has a tendency to do that—just ask Persephone), but give him a chance and he can illuminate even the darkest shadows.

None of us will ever accomplish anything excellent or commanding except when he listens to this whisper which is heard by him alone.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio, and Mars speaks poetically in the Full Moon chart. Currently travelling through communicative Gemini, Mars wants to know what you think about the Scorpio Moon's powerful feelings and urges. What words can you use to describe your emotions, impulses and reactions? And what actions seem logical to take as a result? It's wise to think before you act, in this case, and to gather information before you choose your next move. This can help you get focused on your intentions and what you want to achieve from your actions, which is important because Gemini can be very distractible and changeable.

Mars makes a razor sharp square to Neptune (90°), as well as a bountiful trine to Jupiter (120°). While Jupiter encourages Mars to aim for a long-term destination on the far horizon, Neptune could make it difficult to get a clear focus on that horizon.

Since Gemini is more comfortable in the local neighbourhood rather than far-off lands, it might be easier to aim your direction based on the next few steps rather than trying to make giant strides across the whole journey. Put another way: think of the far horizon in a desert that is distorted by the heat, but becomes clearer as you get closer to it. In the same way, it might be better to stay flexible about the precise destination and focus more on what's in front of you that you can see more clearly.

If you hang out with chickens, you're going to cluck
and if you hang out with eagles, you're going to fly.
~ Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

Mars is about to go Out of Bounds (OOB) (May.14 to Jun.29) which means it goes into extreme declination ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"). Mars does this roughly every 6-18 months, and the last time it went OOB was Aug-Oct 2016. Following so closely after the Full Moon in its sign, this has great implications for the Scorpio Full Moon and vice versa.

An OOB planet tends to operate beyond the norm in some way. In the case of Mars it can take its anger, agitation and forcefulness and ramp up these qualities into rage, hostility or even violence. Intended actions could become hijacked in a different direction, requiring you to take a detour for a few weeks where you might discover unexpected realizations.

On the other hand, it can also escalate Mars' enthusiasm, determination and courage up into warrior or superhero status where it may fight for unconventional or obscure causes. And your energy levels could be given a boost so that either you are sustained through an otherwise exhausting situation, or you might find you're bouncing off the walls to some extent.

In the context of the Full Moon, we could also experience an amplification of Scorpio qualities. Loyalty and steadfastness combined with insecurity, for example, could emerge as allegiance to a person or cause that doesn't deserve it or exerting controlling jealousy. However, Scorpio's penetrating insight could reach the level of x-ray vision—either your perceptions of others or their perceptions of you.

See the Low-Down day-to-day transits below (May.14) for more about OOB Mars.

The general opinion concerning quintiles is that they are indicative of uncommon facets of human capacity expressing a notable degree of creative genius, rare insight and mental artistry. ... Quintiles seem to describe the potential of abilities normally considered exceptional or gifted, and abilities that are not necessarily developed or conditioned by experiences in the external environment.
~ Bil Tierney, Dynamics of Aspect Analysis: New Perceptions in Astrology

An especially intriguing part of the Full Moon chart is an abundance of quintile aspects. Quintiles are considered minor aspects in that they tend to have a more subtle effect than the straightforward major aspects (conjunction, opposition, square, trine and sextile). I tend to think of minor aspects being like the squeaky little high-pitched notes or deep rumbling low notes in music, as opposed to the clear mid-range tones. In other words, they add richness to the main tune but aren't usually a major theme by themselves.

The quintile (multiples of 72°) is derived from dividing the circle by 5 (and its cousin, the decile or 36°, from division by 10). Quintile energy is associated with issues involving power and authority, creativity, and special talents. When there are a lot of quintile aspects in someone's chart, it is important that they have some form of creative outlet. Since it's best to use a small orb for these aspects (2° or less) they are not usually plentiful in a chart, so having several is quite significant.

Quintile Kite aspect pattern: Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn

In the Full Moon chart, we are treated to a rare aspect pattern—a kind of Quintile Kite! The Kite is formed by Jupiter and Saturn, which are in quintile aspect (72°). The Sun-Moon opposition runs through their midpoint and forms the spine of this Kite figure, so the Full Moon acts like a lightning rod for this quintile energy.

To complete the Kite, the Sun makes biquintile aspects (144°) to Jupiter and Saturn, while the Moon makes semi-quintile or decile aspects to them (36°). And in addition, all of these aspects have less than a half-degree of orb and are applying aspects, which cranks up the volume of these subtle tones even more.

Since we're talking about Jupiter and Saturn being brought to bear on the Full Moon, the effects of this Quintile Kite are likely to be felt in terms of our perspective, role and interactions within society, culture and leadership structures.

So, for example, you might find you're especially sensitive to current events related to politics, government or authority. Or it could raise issues about your personal independence and self-confidence relative to what's happening in the world around you.

It could also bring an opportunity to manifest a vision you have to make the world a better place. Or you might find yourself chaffing against conventional standards of authority or morality as you try to find a balance between your personal needs and external demands. As a result, you might need to find a new, innovative way to bridge that gap.

On top of the Quintile Kite, there is also an exact (3 minutes of orb) biquintile between Mars and Pluto, which happen to be the two ruling planets of Scorpio! Again, the Full Moon is inundated with quintile energy. Mars and Pluto are not tranquil or patient energies, so the effect of this quintile is likely to bring out conflicts and struggles involving the use and abuse of power.

For example, you could be faced with having to take back your power in the face of someone whose controlling style conflicts with your boundaries. Or you might discover that you are expecting more from others than they are comfortable giving. At its best, this transit can inspire you to find brilliant, unique ways to take command of a situation that requires a tricky combination of finesse and brute force.

No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce,
but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions,
and to build confidence in the creative spirit.
~ Ansel Adams

These quintile aspects give the Scorpio Full Moon a potential edge of creativity and/or struggle. It is through struggle that the baby bird is born out of the egg, and the exertion builds strength and stamina necessary for its new life.

Creativity is the ability to think outside the box and discover innovative ways to solve problems, rather than staying stuck in them. It is your natural brilliance that springs from your mind being set free. However, creativity can also mean non-conformity to the norms and expectations from the world around you, which can in turn lead to struggle. Freedom isn't free, and venturing beyond the nest of the norm usually has its consequences. You need to examine if the journey is worth it.

Scorpio energy at its best is internal. The control and power it seeks can only be found within the self, since the only realm of control and power we really have is over our own actions, behaviour, attitudes and awareness. If we try to control that which is outside of us, we are stuck having to continue to enforce that control, which usually requires increasing amounts of energy to maintain it.

Better that we discover the source of our own personal power within. And that is usually achieved through our struggle with the temptation to control and manipulate that which is outside of us. The Full Moon in Scorpio challenges us to become more aware of where and how we struggle, and where we are in that quest.

Enthusiasm can help you find the new doors, but it takes passion to open them. If you have a strong purpose in life, you don't have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.
~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

May.11 – Mars square Neptune (13:55 of Gemini/Pisces)   (May.12 in AU)

For up to a week before and after today, you have a chance to discover and work with your blind spots and the hidden motives that trip you up. It may feel like you are spinning your wheels or "shadow-boxing" and not even sure why. You may be fighting a hidden agenda or unconscious motives (yours or someone else's). You might also be trying to apply a concrete solution to an ambiguous situation, and then wondering why it isn't working very well. Responding to conflicts in a passive-aggressive or manipulative way can be tempting under this transit, since you may not know how to take direct and effective action. Resentment might become a defiant way to express toothless anger. Part of the problem may be that you are fighting against your own idealism, and resisting the acceptance that the other person or situation can't be the way you want them to be. Feelings of disappointment or helplessness may trigger much deeper feelings from your unconscious, making it difficult for you to know how to respond effectively in the here-and-now. It will probably help to work on owning your feelings, needs, longings and (hidden) agendas. Being honest with yourself about what's really going on inside you will go a long way toward increasing your empowerment.

May.11 – Mercury Direct trine Saturn (26:48 of Aries/Sagittarius)   (May.12 in AU)

It can be easier to take a logical, practical approach to problem-solving and pursuit of your goals now. Your mental outlook is likely to be calm and grounded. This is a good time to make plans and work out the logistics of how you're going to get from "here" to "there" in pursuing your goals. You may find it's time to bring closure to finished goals by distilling and systemizing what you've learned in the process of pursuing those past goals. Or, you might find you are able to draw on past achievements to assist and support your current goals and plans. It is a good transit to bring structure to your thoughts and communication. You may find it's a little easier to accept authority – yours or someone else's – and that you are able to speak authoritatively about things about which you have knowledge or experience.

May.12 – Mars trine Jupiter (14:23 of Gemini/Libra)

Energy, assertiveness, aggression and sexuality are amplified during this time. Physical, mental and emotional energy can run high. Your motivation can take on an air of confidence and purpose. If you normally shrink back from asserting yourself, this can be a time when it's a bit easier to find the courage to take a stand. It can also make you more sensitive to this amplified energy in others around you. If you are distressed by Mars energy in general (afraid of anger, intimidated by aggression, cautious about sexuality, etc.), this transit might bring a bit more of it than you can comfortably handle. However, it can also give you an opportunity to experience and make friends with this energy. If you typically enjoy high energy, this can be a time when you can make progress with plans and projects, and have flirtatious or impish fun along the way.

May.14 – Mars goes Out of Bounds (OOB until Jul.29, 15:49 Gemini to 16:21 Cancer)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mars goes Out of Bounds (OOB) for about 6 weeks. During that time you might encounter new experiences and challenges related to courage, aggression or taking action. For example, you may find you are seized with inspiration to champion a cause, or you might decide that now is the time to do something you've hesitated about for a while and were just waiting for the right moment.

There is always the less constructive side of Mars to watch for, as well. For instance, bold action could become reckless if it's not balanced with wisdom, realistic expectations and awareness of the consequences that you might have to live with afterwards. Anger and frustration could flare up more easily or intensely than usual, which is probably best expressed in constructive ways that don't leave ashes and ruins behind you.

Your instincts could be finely tuned during this time, picking up on distant or subtle signals and relaying these to your impulses which result in doing things without a lot of conscious forethought. This can feel exciting or energizing, but remember that you will still have to live with the results, so if you find this is creating problems it might be best to slow things down a bit so you can consider your best course of action before actually doing it.

It's also possible that during this time you won't notice much at all. Not everyone is attuned to the OOB Mars energy, although you still might observe it in others around you. Or, your experience of this Mars energy might be a quieter signal that you need to focus on more carefully to get a clear sense of it.

May.14 – Mercury Direct trine North Lunar Node (28:56 of Aries/Leo)   (May.15 in AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

Today, and up to a couple of days before and after, things can feel like they're starting to make sense. What you read, hear and observe may seem more obvious and your ability to put this into words could flow more easily. You might identify and figure out how to utilize the tools, skills, assets and ideas that could bring you further down the road toward whatever destination you're pointed toward. However, a reality check about how wise it might be to act on these ideas and benefits is still a good idea. Write down good ideas to follow up with later.

May.16 – Mercury Direct enters Taurus (until Jun.06)   (May.15 in HAST, AKDT, PDT, MDT, CDT)

Thoughts, communication and analysis work best when they are careful and methodical, during this transit. Your mental attitude and awareness may be somewhat serious and conservative – or down-to-earth, relaxed, and grounded in simple pleasures. Your perceptions may be a little slower to form, and you may have to search a little longer to find the right words. But there is also an increased ability to savour and appreciate your experiences more, and it can be a time when you can relax and recharge your mental batteries. You might find that your body instincts and sensory experience give you more information than your conscious thoughts. This is a good time to plan out how to manifest the ideas that sprang from your imagination in the past several weeks. Take your best ideas, perceptions and words and sow them like seeds. Then watch them grow over time.

May.18 – Venus leaves the Retrograde Shadow (13:08 of Aries; enters the shadow again on Sep.02.2018)   (May.19 in AU)   ("What is the Shadow?"  Read more about Venus Retrograde.  Read more about the Shadow.)

Venus finally finishes her retrograde cycle by leaving the Shadow – the area of the zodiac where she was retrograde up until 4-5 weeks ago. Before that, Venus was retrograde for about 6 weeks, after spending 4-5 weeks in the pre-retrograde Shadow. The whole cycle lasts for about 3.5 months, and we are now at the end of this current cycle.

Look back on these time ranges and see if you can identify a pattern in your life. The pre-retrograde Shadow phase may have seen the development of issues, problems, challenges or changes in your desires and appetites in the areas of relationships, finances, resources or the need for balance. During the retrograde phase, you may have reconsidered and re-evaluated these areas, identified something you wanted to change, or perhaps allowed yourself to express feelings or desires that you normally keep locked away. You might have experienced either an increase or decrease in sex drive, desires, finances, social connection or romance during the retrograde phase and to some extent during the entire cycle.

The post-retrograde phase (which ends now) is the time when you make changes or choices based on what has emerged during the other two phases. Anything that increased and filled up the foreground of your attention may now recede into the background again, and things that seemed to hibernate or disappear may have begun to resume. We will not see the Venus Retrograde Shadow again for another 15-16 months.

May.18 – Sun sextile Chiron (28:03 of Taurus/Pisces)   (May.19 in AU)

This is a time when you have an opportunity to mend and heal the chronic struggles in your life. You may find new inspiration, motivation or confidence that can help rejuvenate waning enthusiasm or reconcile persistent problems, although you'll still have to apply effort to bring it all together. You might get the chance to demonstrate your ability to walk your own path in a new way. Or, you might get a peek inside the hidden shadow of your worries and discouragement, giving you new insight into how you might be unconsciously sabotaging your conscious efforts. You may have to face a bit of your own fear of failure or low self-esteem before you can get beyond these feelings and tap into the benefits of this transit – not because you are failing but because these concerns may arise in response to the new potential now available to you. By tapping into this potential for creative problem solving, you can bring some healing to whatever your situation is.

May.19 – Saturn trine Uranus (26:23 of Sagittarius/Aries)   (May.18 in HAST, AKDT, PDT)

Saturn is the planet of taking responsibility seriously and making things stable and manifest. Uranus is about breaking things apart, giving them more wiggle room, and bringing creative chaos designed to wake us up. Since they are now a friendly, cooperative trine aspect (120?) these two dramatically different planets are about as close to being on the same page as they'll ever be! At best, Uranus can help Saturn loosen up and not be so stuffy, strict or stagnant, giving more room to grow, evolve and adjust. In turn, Saturn can help Uranus stop short of destroying the place, giving him an anchor of purpose, practicality and realistic clarity.

This can be an excellent time to make a big change in your life, but it will probably work best if you do it Saturn's way. Start by figuring out what your goal is, what you really want to end up with. Then plot a realistic plan for how you could get from here to there. Write it down so you have something to refer to later, including a list of resources you can draw on, people who would support you, and a Plan B if things go completely haywire. It can also help to have a map of priorities and limits—not to put a damper on things but to have an sense of how far you are and are not willing to go if you need to change your plans.

This transit can give you the best of both worlds – the spontaneity, awakening and vision of Uranus combined with the practical groundedness of Saturn that helps you integrate the changes into the fabric of your life.

Dates for the current Saturn-Uranus trine: Dec.24.2016, May.19, 2017, Nov.11.2017.

Dates for the current Saturn-Uranus cycle:

May.19 – Sun square North Lunar Node (28:44 of Taurus/Leo)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

When the Sun squares the Lunar Nodes, your sense of purpose and identity appear to be in conflict with the lessons you need to learn in life. It may feel like you're forced to take a detour around your direct route to your destination (whatever that might be). This may only be true on the surface – if you look deeper at the situation (or possibly in retrospect), you'll probably find that your sense of self is actually helped by the benefits that you are able to get on that detour, which would have missed if you hadn't been diverted from your original path.

Alternatively, you might be confronted by a conflict or stressful dilemma that you usually resist or flail against. This may be an opportunity to explore a deeper level of your experience and feelings. Perhaps there is fear or resentment or defiance behind your reaction. This is a chance to try on a different perspective and respond in a different way that can help you move through the situation instead of just being blocked by it.

When the Sun squares the Nodes it is sometimes called "Moon Wobbles," which is a bit of a misnomer. The Moon itself doesn't wobble or even necessarily interact directly with either the Nodes or the Sun. Rather, the Moon part of us (the inner, feeling, intuitive, sensitive part of us) may feel a bit "wobbly" or unsteady when the Sun squares the Nodes. The "Moon Wobble" effects are said to build and dissipate for up to 10 days before and after the Sun-Node square is exact.

May.19 – Venus opposite Jupiter (13:52 of Aries/Libra)   (May.20 in AU)

This is a time when your desire for pleasure is wide open. Sexual desire could reach out using seduction. Desire for delightful tastes could become overindulgence in foods that may not be in the best interest of your health (e.g., sweets, alcohol, etc.). Spending can be impulsive and easily grow beyond your budget. Money-making opportunities could spill over into workaholic obsession. It might feel like nothing is "enough" and you feel compelled to continually reach out for more and more – a bottomless well of desire. On the other hand, this energy can also bring out your natural beauty and charm in social situations if you are shy or inhibited. If you've done your research and your comparative shopping, this could be the time you make a big purchase. Or you might find the feeling is right to make your move with a love interest and expand your intimate connection with that person. Or perhaps you feel generous and decide to donate your money or talents to a cause that reaches for a higher purpose. Enjoy, but don't blow your budget.

May.20 – Sun enters Gemini (until Jun.21)   (May.21 in AU)

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Gemini! This is the time of year for the cosmic Twins to party, but it is also a time for all of us to explore our dual nature and our sentient awareness that emerges from it. Communication and exchange of information and ideas are specialties of Gemini, and this period brings these areas into focus for everyone. If you're looking for ideas to explore your Gemini nature, try writing your thoughts down, or listen to the buzz of activity around you, or express your observations in both verbal and non-verbal ways. Pay special attention to conversations with others, and be alert to the new information that can be learned there. Connect with your Inner Imp and let yourself be playful, clever, cheerful and fun! Learn a new word every day. Find out the names of things you never even noticed before. Read a book or newspaper or newsletter...or write one! Ride the bus to an area of town you've never been to and see what you find. And remember that it is largely through our interactions with other people and with the immediate world around us that we develop consciousness, perception and mental focus. Therefore, use this as an opportunity to increase your awareness of your immediate surroundings. Exchange information and ideas with others. Use your ability to communicate in every way you can think of. And let yourself be curious, clever and playful!

May.20 – Mercury leaves the Shadow (00:50 of Taurus; until Jul.24)   (May.21 in UK, AU)   ("What's the Shadow?"  Read my articles about Retrograde Cycles.  Read my article about Mercury Retrograde.)

Mercury finally leaves the shadow—the part of the zodiac where it was retrograde. This means the confusion, delays and miscommunications of the last 2 months have mostly dissipated and things should be more or less back to normal (whatever that is). The difference is that you now have the benefit of seeing things from a different perspective after having reconsidered, rethought and rehashed information and perceptions over the past 2 months. This gives you more choices than you had before. In fact, you may find that although you thought something was a good idea a month or two ago, you now realize that a different approach, decision or way of understanding it is better. If you've been waiting until Mercury finished with the retrograde cycle before you made a final decision about something or taking action on something, this is the time to take another look at whatever that is. Just don't forget your common sense, and remember that Mercury is only one factor to take into consideration regarding the timing of a decision. Use your best judgment and wisdom.

The key dates of this Mercury cycle (for North American Eastern Time):

May.25 – Venus square Pluto (19:06 of Aries/Capricorn)   (May.26 in AU)

Relationships and interactions are likely to be deep, intense and transformative under this transit. The same goes for your sense of beauty, and your material and financial dealings, which may require you to delve far deeper than usual to discover the truth under the surface of things. You may encounter the dark shadow of your desires – the obscure, secret or unconscious hunger that hides underneath the "politically correct" face you show to the world (and to yourself. This is a challenge to be resolved in some way. It might bring out conflict rooted in envy or jealousy, if someone has something (or someone) that you feel you are entitled to. Or, it might prompt you to reach very deep into your soul to find your inner beauty and value. You may be challenged to develop empathy or empowerment about something that initially seemed undesirable, unforgivable or scary. This transit can show you the problem areas that need to be transformed and healed. And seeing these more clearly can be a catharsis that sets that transformative healing in motion.
