Jun.09 – FULL MOON in SAGITTARIUS (18:53 of Sagittarius)

Geesh! Give Sagittarius an inch and it will take a mile.

No sooner have I jotted down a couple of noteworthy things about this Full Moon chart, but another one pops up. And another, and then a few more, and oh let's not forget this one over here... If I were to get into all of them, we'd be here until next year!

So, in defiance of Sagittarius' expansion agenda, I'll give you the Reader's Digest version. At least, I'll try—this Mercury-in-Sagittarius doesn't do "brief" easily or gladly... ;-)

Okay, so there are several aspect figures, including a rather rare one that could make things a bit edgy and obstinate. Jupiter, the planetary ruler of the Sagittarius Full Moon, is completely stationary, so he might not be sure if he's coming or going. There's an exact Venus-Mars sextile that's part of a longer pattern of interactions dating back to last February and reaching forward into October. And Mercury and Mars are doing a little dance by declination over the next few weeks, while Mercury and Neptune cast aspersions at each other while Neptune stations retrograde. Oh ya, almost forgot—the Full Moon is conjunct Saturn!

Okay, I think that's about it. Can I go out and play now?

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
~ Albert Einstein

Okay okay, here's the Mercury-in-Sagittarius version. ;-)

Saturn conjunct the Full Moon

Let's start with Saturn conjunct the Full Moon and opposite the Sun. Are we having fun yet?? Well, yes we are! ...if you enjoy pursuing a challenge with lots of hard work and strong-arming your playful side to grow up.

The Sagittarian passion for truth, justice and faith in something greater than itself encounters some sharp corners when Saturn insists on bringing that passion down to earth where it can be reality-checked and put to productive use.

So with the Full Moon in such close proximity to the mighty Saturn, you may be challenged to run your assumptions, beliefs and judgments through a filter that separates the greater truth from your personal projections. In other words, be prepared to think twice and question what you believe is true, real and morally right.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, incompetence, neglect or misunderstanding
...but don't rule out malice.
~ Hanlon's Razor, paraphrased

Pluto forms an aspect pattern that I call an Irritation Wedge. Pluto is semi-sextile to the Moon (30°) and quincunx the Sun (150°). These aspects—semi-sextile and quincunx, sometimes known as inconjuncts (don't ask me why...)—are a bit of a conundrum. They join planets that are in signs that have nothing to do with each other.

The major aspects (conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile) all have either a modality in common (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) or have the same or compatible elements (Fire-Air, Earth-Water). The inconjuncts have nothing in common: they have different modalities and their elements are incompatible.

Irritation Wedge aspect pattern - Sun, Moon, Pluto

And yet there is an aspect, which creates a connection between the planets involved. In a way, the inconjunct planets are in each other's "blind spot," At its worst, getting these energies to work together can be very frustrating and a bit crazy-making. It's as if you had one foot nailed to the floor while you try to make progress—you just go around in circles. To break out of the endless loop, we need to be flexible and creative by thinking "outside the box" and expanding our awareness and perceptions to encompass the divergent ideas and energies. In other words, consider what lies beyond your assumptions.

In this case, the planets are Pluto versus the Sun and Moon, and the signs are Capricorn versus Sagittarius and Gemini. So, we have Earth versus the Fire-Air axis, as well as a deeply transpersonal, outer planet versus two very personal, inner bodies.

At worst, it could feel like we're at the mercy of larger-than-life forces that are only out to oppress, control and engulf us. With Pluto's penchant for paranoia, it can be easy to jump to the assumption of bad intentions, even though that might not be a fair conclusion (see Hanlon's Razor, above.)

At best, though, this aspect pattern challenges us to discover and embrace our own personal power, and to do this in ways that are creative, down-to-earth and transforming. In other words, watch for opportunities to respond to difficulties in ways that are either life-changing or that draw on the major changes that have shaped your life.

For best results, you'll need to expand your philosophical "peripheral vision" – in other words, reach for suble new ideas and concepts that you hadn't considered before even though they're not far from what you are already aware of. It might be as simple as pausing to take a breath before you auto-react with judgment toward someone, and doing a reality check about the reasons why they might have said or done what they did.

It's not denial. I'm just selective about the reality I accept.
~ Bill Watterson

Jupiter is stationary going direct. And I mean really stationary – we're talking less than an hour after the exact moment of the Full Moon! A stationary planet kind of burns a hole in the chart, like a powerful beam of light passed through a magnifying glass sets fire to piece of paper. And with this being the ruling planet of Sagittarius, the power surge from stationary Jupiter bounces off the face of the Full Moon.

One implication is that the Sagittarian side of the Moon-Saturn power struggle has increased capacity to bring a visionary optimism to the mix.

In other words, while Saturn is trying to clip the Sag Moon's wings (for its own good, of course), the Moon can maintain an emotional connection to hope and faith to keep it from getting stuck in depression or sadness. Obstacles can be coped with by seeing them as temporary, if you remember to look at the horizon beyond them.

T-square aspect pattern - Neptune, Sun, Moon

The trick is to avoid falling into the trap of seeing any disappointment or delay in all-or-nothing terms. However, this could be a strong temptation, as Neptune forms a T-square aspect pattern with the Sun-Moon opposition. This pattern could amplify the potential for disappointment or disillusionment. Since the Sun-Moon aspects to Neptune are separating (Sun square Neptune on Jun.04), any disenchantment could be a carry-over from a recent experience that didn't live up to your expectations or hopes.

It may therefore be wise to avoid letting your reactions get carried away by unquestioned assumptions. These modern times, especially in the social media world, seem to run on a jet fuel of reactions that rapidly escalate into zealous endorsement or vicious condemnation. Fact checking and consideration of the bigger picture are often eclipsed in favour of taking a righteous stand for what we feel is right. And sadly, individuals often get unfairly painted with the same brush as our perception of the broader issues at stake.

Saturn's best role at this Full Moon may be to encourage us all to take a breath and think twice before acting on assumptions.

Well I been out here many a long days
I haven't found a place that I could call my own
Not a two bit bed to lay my body on
I been stood up I been shook down
I bin dragged into the sand
And the big steel rail gonna
Carry me home to the one I love
~ Gordon Lightfoot, Steel Rail Blues

Communication and how you mentally process your experiences could be a bit volatile during this Full Moon and for the next few weeks. In the Full Moon chart, there is an aspect configuration that I'll call a Quindecile Kite. The quindecile aspect is 165° ("QUIN-deh-syle" or Noel Tyl's pronunciation "quin-deh-CHEE-leh"). It is said to be an obsessive energy that can be unrelenting, even to the point of breaking from reality.

Quindecile Kite pattern - Moon, Mercury, Mars, Sun

This aspect pattern has the Moon at the apex, making quindecile aspects to both Mercury and Mars, while Mercury and Mars are semi-sextile (30°) to each other.

In this figure, the Moon tries valiantly to mediate between Mercury in Gemini and Mars in Cancer – thought versus impulse, reason versus passion, debate versus force. The Sun opposing the Moon provides more ideas as ammunition that will be fuelled by Mercury and Mars.

Mercury and Mars compete for dominance over the Moon's emotions, feelings, creative impulse and the need for belonging. How to respond to a situation or person that shakes you up? What to do when you're feeling upset, anxiety, dogmatic or adamant, when little seems right with the world? You might stop at nothing to have your say or have your way. If you can't find other like-minded or inspiring people who can nurture you intellectually, you might be tempted to pressure others into seeing things your way in an effort to build your intellectual family...which unfortunately probably won't work very well for very long.

railroad spikes

This aspect pattern reminds me a bit of a railway spike that anchors the steel track to the wooden railroad ties (sometimes called sleepers). You may feel compelled to drive your point home with a bit too much gusto, risking the loss of support and connection with others. Or you might feel like you're on the sharp end of arguments from others who are determined to force you into agreement.

At its best, this configuration can give you newfound determination to sharpen your debating skills, strengthen your assertiveness or find the courage to take a stand for what you believe in. You may find this works best if you can find the support of others who can warn you when you're pushing too hard or when you're not pushing hard enough.

Yes: I am a dreamer. For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight,
and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.
~ Oscar Wilde, The Critic as Artist

Mercury still has another story to tell. Although not quite close enough to be within orb in the Full Moon chart, Mercury is approaching a square to Neptune (90°) on Jun.13. That suggests that your mental edge could become a bit blurred or softened over the next couple of weeks. This is great for artistry, meditation, creative writing, and enjoying music, art, poetry and all things that move you into a different frame of mind. The down side is that this might come at an awkward time (like when you're trying to do something technical), or it could make you extra sensitive to disappointment, disillusionment, deception or boredom.

Whichever way you experience this, there are two factors that will amplify its effect. The first is that Neptune is stationary-retrograde during this time (exact just 2½ days after Mercury's exact pass), so Neptune's dream-like energy will be especially strong from about June 12-20. The second is that at the same time as Neptune reaches its stillpoint, Mercury goes Out of Bounds (OOB), which is also likely to amplify the atypical, unconventional nature of Mercury.

The overall effect is that from now until the New Moon in Cancer (Jun.23) you may find you need to work differently with your perceptions, thoughts, ideas and ability to get a solid mental grasp on events happening around you. At worst, you might find it feels a lot like Mercury retrograde, even though it's not. And just like with Merc retro, give yourself lots of room to rethink your conclusions and correct any confusion. When your brain decides to wander off the grid at a time when you need to deal with the real world, bring your awareness gently back into focus.

At best, it can be a time when you are more able to view events and experiences in new ways. It can be easier to shed old preconceptions that are getting in the way of clearer understanding, or gather fresh, inspired ideas that can be developed later on. (Write them down!)

It is never too late to be what you might have been.
~ George Eliot

Venus sextile Mars

And finally, we come to the Venus-Mars sextile (60°), which is the closest aspect in the Full Moon chart after the Sun-Moon opposition (which, by definition, is precisely exact). Venus and Mars have been doing a little dance for some time. Their current cycle actually reaches back to February 2015 (!) and extends through to this coming October, with some twists and turns around a Venus retrograde in 2015, a Mars retrograde in 2016 and the Venus retrograde earlier this year.

In this part of the cycle, Venus was just about to conjoin Mars again back in February and came within less than 5° on Feb.06, but then she started to slow down in preparation for her retrograde cycle (Mar.04 to Apr.15). Clearly she had unfinished business to take care of before being ready to end the cycle.

Venus backtracked away from Mars and stationed-direct on Apr.15. The next day Mars made an exact sextile with her. However, with Venus still sluggish and Mars motoring along, Mars moved out of orb and broke the sextile. Venus has been gradually gaining on Mars since then, and on Jun.09 (the day of the Sagittarius Full Moon) Venus finally connects with Mars through an exact sextile. It will take another 4 months before Venus finally catches up to conjoin Mars on Oct.05 (as she almost did back in February).

What does it mean? Venus and Mars are two sides of the same coin. They tend to be equated with female and male, but everyone has both of these energies within them and each planet's essence goes far beyond simple gender identity. Venus tends to be receptive, graceful, sociable, loving and knows how to attract what she desires. Mars on the other hand is aggressive/assertive, impulsive, straightshooting and is inclined to conquer obstacles to take what he wants.

Getting these two opposites to dance together can be a bit tricky, but when they manage to complement each other instead of struggling with each other, the result is poetry in motion. Which one leads in the dance largely depends on which signs they're in.

Back in February, they almost conjoined in Aries, where Mars in rulership had the upper hand. In April they were sextile with Venus exalted in Pisces and Mars in detriment in Taurus, so Venus held the most influence. And this time around Venus again has the advantage, being in her sign of Taurus while Mars is in fall in Cancer.

One result of this is that right now your feminine and masculine energies have the potential to work together beautifully, creatively, effectively and productively—especially if you let your Venus side take the lead. Before taking action or reacting, check in first with your receptive side (Venus in Taurus) that wants harmony, pleasure and comfort. Your assertive, courageous side (Mars in Cancer) may be eager to please and be supportive, and will probably work better if you focus on slaying dragons that are threatening your safety or your loved ones, rather than just for the bragging rights.

Let this creative quest for harmony guide you from now until October when these two energy fields once again unite and begin a new dance.

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence
is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.
~ C.G. Jung

Jun.09 – Jupiter Stationary Direct (13:12 of Libra; until Mar.09.2018)  (Jun.10 in AU)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a surge of idealism, inspiration and confidence. A quest for knowledge, truth, optimism and faith could become a beacon of energy in your life. On the other hand Jupiter could also bring an increase of judgement, blame and elitism. Jupiter has been retrograde for about 4 months. It is now changing direction again and resuming its normal direct motion.

You may have been exploring and developing the deeper qualities of spirituality, beliefs, confidence, knowledge, faith and/or optimism during that time. Or you might have found ways to expand your horizons—directly through travel or indirectly through the study of other cultures and languages. For the next 3 months (as Jupiter retraces its steps through the Shadow), you can start to apply and integrate what you've learned over the past 4 months. For example, if you have been taking a course or exploring your religious beliefs, this might be a time when you are able to put your discoveries into practice or place them into your worldview.

This turning point may be uplifting, overwhelming, inspiring and/or illuminating. You could discover new meaning in areas of life that had become stale or worn out, or you might realise that your old ways of understanding don't work for you anymore and need to be let go. Whatever you've learned or gained over the last 4 months, it is now available to be expressed and used more openly and directly in your life.

Jun.09 – Venus sextile Mars (03:18 of Sign/Sign)  (Jun.10 in AU)

It is possible now to take a balanced approach to conflict, problems and projects that require effort. This can combine both a gentle touch and firm action; sensitivity and forcefulness. Negotiation and interaction with others could be aggressive and determined now, but also balanced with sensitivity and style. Any expressions of anger, frustration or discontent are more likely to be tempered with fairness, moderation and composure. You'll have to apply some effort to get these opposite energies working in sync together, but the potential and opportunity are there more-so than usual now.

NOTE: Venus sextile Mars is part of a longer pattern between these planets. See the Full Moon in Sagittarius article, above, for more information.

Jun.09 – Mercury trine Jupiter (13:14 of Gemini/Libra)  (Jun.10 in AU)

This transit can make you quite talkative and flooded with ideas, along with those around you. Your stream of consciousness can flow abundantly with optimism and visionary possibilities. Write down your best ideas for later development, since you may be having too much fun now playing with ideas to want to stop and make them manifest just yet. Your outlook is usually optimistic and open-minded under this transit, although it might simply neutralize an already pessimistic frame of mind. You are likely to be more open to spiritual or philosophical perspectives, being more able to see yourself as part of something greater than yourself. You might even find that luck comes your way because you are more receptive to opportunities and possibilities.

Jun.13 – Mercury square Neptune (14:15 of Gemini/Pisces)  (Jun.14 in AU)

Your mental focus may be a bit clouded, confused or lethargic right now, as your conscious mind struggles to grasp the formless, limitless expanse of the Universe and the unconscious. You may experience some disillusionment or disappointment, in your observations or communication with others. However, what is flowing under the surface of events right now is the need to dissolve away the crust of old expectations that blocks your view from seeing a greater Truth. If you're feeling off-balance, try to listen more than you talk, so that you can be receptive to your inner sensitivity. Left-brain analysis might be difficult to work with right now unless you balance it with a lot of right-brain intuition. You may have to let go of a rigid mindset, or give up what you think you understand about a situation in your life, in order to open yourself to a new perspective that is difficult to define but is ultimately in the best interest of your spiritual growth.

NOTE: Neptune is stationary, going retrograde, during this transit. See the Full Moon in Sagittarius article, above, for more information.

Jun.15 – Sun opposite Saturn (24:30 of Gemini/Sagittarius)

You may be obligated to fulfil the expectations of others or of society under this transit. A situation or project (which may have begun around 6 months ago) might require that you start to implement the plans and preparation you've been building. Or you might find that problems you've been putting off must now be dealt with. Although you could experience this as stressful or heavy, it can also be a time when you are finally able to move ahead with a project or goal. All commitment requires some degree of limitation and pruning back, since we must choose one path and leave other options behind. This may therefore feel like a time when you are pressured by obligation, necessity or restraint...or it could feel like the rehearsals are finally over and it's time to launch the rocket. If it seems like you're only seeing blocks or obstacles in your way, this might be a reflection of not having done enough preparation (in which case you will need to draw on your experience to solve the problems or deal with the reality in front of you). This can be a time when you reap whatever you have sown in the past (especially the last 6 months), so if your current situation seems negative or punitive, it might be a time when you need to look back over your actions that lead to this and be accountable for past actions and decisions. Whether you are taking the final step to implement your plans or are facing the results of poor past judgment, this can be a time when you are called upon to move forward in your personal growth and maturation. Use it to strengthen your responsibility (response-ability), and don't let fears of inadequacy erode your self-esteem.

Jun.16 – Neptune Stationary Retrograde (14:15 of Pisces; until Mmm.dd)  ("What's a Station?"  "What does Retrograde mean?"  Read more about Retrograde planets.)

For up to a week before and after this date, you may feel a thick concentration of Neptune energy. This could include vivid dreams and imagination, foggy confusion or fluid intuition. You might experience unusual sensitivity to the people and situations around you. The station could create a turning point in situations that have unfolded over the last few months, especially those in which you need to surrender to something greater than yourself, whether that is the creative process, a stressful situation or the Universe in general. This can be a time when you come to an internal acceptance (or resignation) about what needs to be done in your life. As a result, you might feel a sense of longing, dissatisfaction, disappointment, sadness, depression, fatigue or low energy. Or, you might feel a sense of unburdening relief, inspiration, hopeful possibilities or deep beauty. The next 5-6 months will be a time to probe the spaces in between the facts and the uncertainties – to learn about that force greater than yourself, as well as the (unconscious) part of yourself that longs to merge with it.

Jun.16 – Mercury goes Out of Bounds (20:12 of Gemini to 22:22 of Cancer; OOB until Jul.01)  (Jun.17 in AU)   ("What does Out of Bounds mean?"   "What is Declination?")

Mercury goes Out of Bounds (OOB), giving us a chance to peek into ideas and observations beyond our usual thoughts, awareness and comfort zone. The "air up there" can be a bit rarefied. If you're not used to it (and even if you are), your thoughts might seem almost a bit drunk, confused, inspired or flowing so freely that it's hard to capture them clearly. If you do catch one of these thoughts clearly, remember that it's an idea, not necessarily reality, even though you could use it to create a new reality for yourself. Your mental peripheral vision can become expanded, taking in more information than usual. You may have a chance to manifest it more clearly when Mercury returns from "outer space."

Like all things in astrology and life, this has its upside and its downside. Much depends on which thoughts you feed and what you feed them with. If you consume fear, suspicion, anger or hostility, you could find yourself feeling a bit paranoid, easily angered, or looking for ways to cheat in order to avoid anticipated negativity. On the upside, you may discover a fresh understanding about things, putting new pieces of the puzzle into place and tapping into a higher level of truth and insight. Try writing down your ideas, perceptions, thoughts and moods. After Mercury comes back down to earth, you can see how you can put those observations and ideas to good use.

Jun.16 – Sun sextile North Lunar Node (26:02 of Gemini/Leo)  (Jun.17 in UK, AU)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

This can be a feel-good time when you feel like you're on your game. Your sense of purpose and direction feel like they're flowing just right. Opportunities may present themselves and you are in a good position to recognize them and know how to make them work to your advantage. Even if you encounter difficulties, you are likely to be more confident in approaching them and therefore better able to find effective solutions. Pay attention to people who cross your path for 2-3 days around this time, since they could offer resources, support or connections that could be helpful. Just be careful that you don't resort to manipulation to make things happy your way. If you have to force something to work then maybe there's a better solution.

Jun.18 – Sun sextile Uranus (27:42 of Gemini/Aries)  (Jun.19 in AU)

You are more open than usual to spontaneity, surprises and "flying by the seat of your pants!" Your sense of humour and fun are more finely tuned during this transit, as is your ability to break out of old outworn habits. It's a great time to try new things and experiment with something that's out of character for you. In fact, it may be surprising how easy it is to break out of your usual routine...so much so that it's good to be careful not to be too reckless under this transit. Just have fun pushing the envelope! You may also find you want things to be spontaneous and new and out-of-the-ordinary so much that it's hard not to feel restless and dissatisfied with ordinary life right now. But remember that trying to plan spontaneity defeats the purpose of the exercise. And if you are hungering for something new but can't seem to find something satisfying, try digging a little deeper to see what is driving that hunger from inside you. You could find surprising answers.

Jun.18 – Mercury opposite Saturn (24:15 of Gemini/Sagittarius)

The time has come to face facts. There may be a reality in your life that you've been avoiding, and you need to accept and deal with it. Or, you might have to conform to the expectations of others because there's no other way around it. Or, you could find that your ability to communicate, say what you want to say, or get your point across is harder for a few days. This will pass, but there may be concrete reasons why this might not be the best time to communicate whatever is on your mind. You might feel a bit as if you're being tested, and in some way this could be true. This transit may bring an opportunity to see how much you really know and how skilled you are at using that knowledge. On the other hand, this could be a time when hard work and preparation that you've done for several months could pay off. You may be able to progress to the next step in a project, or to make plans in an organised, concrete and responsible way. For a few days, taking a structured, methodical or factual approach to whatever you're doing may produce the best results.

Jun.19 – Mercury sextile North Lunar Node (25:58 of Gemini/Leo)  ("What's a Lunar Node?")

You may be more perceptive and observant than usual during this transit. You could find the right words to communicate a little easier, or you might simply find that things make a little more sense. It can be a good time to write that letter, ask that question, make that call, when you feel you are in focus to move forward. The only caution is to be careful not to focus on what you want so strongly that you can't see what's really there, or to try to force the situation to be what you want it to be.

Jun.19 – Sun square Chiron (28:48 of Gemini/Pisces)  (Jun.20 in AU)

Your self-confidence and patience may be a bit strained right now, stretched by the urge to break free of chronic constraints. Motivation and self-esteem may seem to sag and suffer from old problems that you thought were resolved. This is probably because you are seeing "the flaws in the system" that are preventing you from getting the results you want. It will help to take a fresh approach to your situation. You may need to let go of what you think the results "should be" or how they should come to you. Be open to getting what you want in a different form than you were expecting. You may have to work extra hard for results now, especially if it means having to find a different route to success. If it seems like a door of opportunity has closed, look for an unexpected advantage or hidden alternative. This could allow you to tap into other opportunities that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Jun.20 – Venus sextile Neptune (14:15 of Taurus/Pisces)  (Jun.19 in HAST)

Artistry, romance, creativity and faith have the potential to flow freely now. Your creative Muse is whispering in your ear, although it will still take your own elbow grease to turn it into something real. Socially and romantically, things could run smoothly and even a bit magically, so be sure you are clear in yourself about what you really want. This can be a time of blessings and abundance (in all areas of life) ...but there is also the risk of overspending and being overly optimistic in your assumptions about money and relationships. Your natural beauty and warmth can be brought out by this transit, but don't just waste it on creating a façade of outer glamour and charm. Let the essence of your inner beauty and pure spirit shine through your appearance and mannerisms!

Jun.20 – Mercury sextile Uranus (27:45 of Gemini/Aries)  (Jun.19 in HAST)

There is potential for brilliance and excitement under this transit. You may be more spontaneous, upbeat and eccentric than usual. If you are used to a fairly predictable lifestyle, it is a time when you may be inspired to experiment with something out of character. If you are used to being whacky, zany and impulsive, this transit can provide opportunities to express this. You may have an increased ability to "think outside the box" if you stretch your mind a little, and there is the possibility of having an "ah-ha!" experience, when answers and realisations fall into place. There is also the possibility of being mentally restless, so that it's hard to slow down your thoughts or apply yourself seriously to your responsibilities. Your attention span may be a bit short for a couple of days. This energy can be used to consider new ideas that seemed outlandish or impossible before, and see new potential in them.

Jun.20 – Mercury square Chiron (28:49 of Gemini/Pisces)

Your mental focus and perceptions may feel a bit strained right now. You could find yourself locked in a struggle of indecision that stems from a "glass half empty" versus "glass half full" dilemma. It may be difficult to stay objective and evenly balanced in your perspective, but by working with this you could also find a new mental focus that gives you increased clarity. It might be tempting to sink into cynicism as a way to deal with what seems like a no-win situation. On the other hand, this transit could bring your mental perspective to a kind of "healing crisis" that forces you to get a better grip on the ideas, communication and frame of mind that have been problematic for you. Instead of reaching for extremes (hoping this will clarify the path in front of you), it will help more if you can take a few steps back to allow all the conflicting and out-of-sync elements to coexist together – creative paradox. If you have been in denial about something, this could be a turning point that allows you to grapple with the complex reality of your situation.

Happy Solar Return to everyone born in the sign of Cancer! When the Sun enters Cancer, it also marks the Summer Solstice (in North America, the UK, Europe and other places in the northern hemisphere; or the Winter Solstice in Australia and other places in the southern hemisphere). This is the time when we all get to cultivate and nurture the Cancer side of our nature. This includes feelings, needs and nurturing instincts, as well as your connection to home and family, and your most primal sense of belonging. To explore this area of your life, think about your family – are you closely connected to your family-of-origin (the one you grew up with), or do you also have a "chosen family" in adulthood? Who is part of your support system (the people you know you can turn to when you need them)? What people, groups, places or experiences satisfy your need for belonging, which everyone has inside them? Cancer is about our distant past (childhood, ancestry, memories) that influences our current behaviour, motives and methods of getting our emotional needs met. Take this time to find new ways to nurture yourself, to share that nurturing with others, and to ensure that you don't give to others at the expense of not getting what you need.

Jun.21 – Mercury enters Cancer (until Jul.05)  (Jun.20 in HAST)

Intuition, sensitive perception, and communication of feelings flow more easily during this transit. Your empathy may be deepened now, as you can be more able to imagine and pick up on what other people feel and need. Because of this, you may also find that it's easier to say difficult things in a sensitive, caring way. However, your open connection to others might also increase the risk of communicating in a hurtful or callous way, if you are not used to treading gently. Your creative imagination is also more accessible now. To take advantage of this, try doing some journal writing, expand your emotional awareness, have some creative fun, or think of ways to make your environment more homey and comfortable.

Jun.21 – Sun conjunct Mercury (00:23 of Cancer)

During this transit, your sense of self and purpose can become merged with what you think, perceive and say. On one hand, this can make for an easy flow of ideas and communication from inside your brain to the external world. It can also increase your perceptions and observations of the world, as you file it all away in your internal database. On the other hand, you may find yourself a bit tongue-tied, as it could be hard to separate your sense of self from your perceptions and ideas enough to find the words to adequately express them. In that case, just observe and go with the flow; the words will come later. It can also be a time when it's not easy to be objective, especially about yourself and how you bring yourself to the world around you. It's like your Being automatically expresses and sets into motion the things you think, perceive and want to say. This can help you to feel like your sense of self is shining effortlessly, but if your thoughts and perceptions are in conflict with other parts of you (e.g., emotions, needs, objectivity) then it might become a time when you act a little too quickly with blinders on. Strive for balance and self-honesty before you act.
